4641  Economy / Speculation / Re: Could this be the bottom of Bitcoin? on: December 15, 2022, 10:55:55 AM
the 3 month scale ranges from $16k-$21k (rounded)

so a $17k is not some massive hype or crash or bull or bear. its just small movements in comparison to the yearly amount

i personally have a huge hoard from decade ago and sooner but im still happy to accumulate more while prices are below $20k

its discount season, great value.. compared to last years premium

just to truely clarify

the article is an opinion piece wrote by a guy sponsored by lightning services(bitrefills). where he goes into restaurants malls and pharmacies advertising they accepted(past tense it was old signage they did not remove) 'strike' (lightning payments). and are told that the restaurant no longer accepts that payment

lightning (via strike) IS NOT BITCOIN

LN is a separate network
bitcoin is on the bitcoin network it never leaves the bitcoin network. whats 'paid' on the LN network is a different unit of account using a different payment relay system and units are 1000x smaller units than the bitcoin network even understands

that LN trial that started in september 2021, failed within 3 months due to complexity and liquidity issues of inability to process funds transfers

LN failed.. not bitcoin
i absolutely hate it that LN fangirls promote the dreamy hype of their silly network. yet when their network has a flaw of fails "bitcoin failed" is creamed out

LN is not bitcoin!

much like Wbtc Lbtc renbtc are not bitcoin, when subnetworks of pegged value fail its not bitcoin that failed

the linked article is a opinion piece based on a previous story by the writer

where he keeps saying he wants to pay in 'bitcoin'..
but all along he is looking for "pay with strike"(an LN system)
and its not until halfway down and by his story a few days into his visit that he finds somewhere that accepts LN for the purchase of sim cards

https://bitcoinmagazine.com/el-salvador-bitcoin-news/revisiting-el-salvador-bitcoin-year-later
Quote
Not many Bitcoin transactions are seen here either, apparently. But they finally manage to generate a Lightning QR code and the transaction goes through.

asking for strike and pretending your asking to pay with bitcoin is 2 completely diferent networks and units of measure

el salvador deemed strikes lightning scheme a failure in january 2022 and instead went with a CEX model for bitcoin custody accounts for citizens and merchants

though rainfall is low.. what you are also finding is the stupid politics of the water authority that gives out water "quota's" to counties, which the water authorities has for years been pretending more water exists than actually available to ensure california gets a nice amount of quota for water that does not exist

however because it awarded quota's to states that then divide it up to counties that then divide those quotas to farmers, where those farmers dont want to lose those quota's rate next year and so they have to fully use up their water amount this year to retain that rate. (it doesnt benefit them to save water) so they plant silly produce like nuts and avocado's that waste more water. just so they can use up their quota to retain their quota rate for the next year..

this leads to more water being sent to upstream counties which then means by the time the river flows down stream there is less water left.

3 months ago. the water authority demanded cuts to the quotas for ONLY arizona and nevada..
meaning good old california get to have as much as they want(quotad to have)

this meant that the cut to the quota's left some farmers with less water. in arizona.
yet the californian vineyards got to keep making their wine without exclusions
https://youtu.be/cp1ST9MxDcY?t=147

in short
nevada had to cut back to give more to califorina so that california can keep going, but meant arizona had to cut back as there were obligations that there needed to be some water left south of arizona

its funny how they say nevada and arizona are experiencing a drought of the colorado of decades .. yet california only 3 years..

and lets not get started on the fact that nevada, california and arizona are naturally desert states, where by there is a stupid over population of people on land that meant to be uninhabitable naturally

gotta love how the water agencies shuffle quotas around to give favourable amounts to certain locations and unfavourable limits to others OF THE SAME RIVER, and then say "blame climate"

if they for the last 2 decades actually measured water yields of reservoirs and then done a proper % split of amount per state. they might actually have had a better share and used less over all to keep some of the reservoir water locked in. instead of sending it all to california to grow nuts and avocados

its basically 80% bad math of quotas cause and 20% due to less rainfull to cover the bad math up

trick your brain into stop worrying

look around your home
1.  try to see if the thing that is causing stress is physically in your room
2. locate 3 items in your home. physically pick them up, put them down
3. try to touch the thing that is stressing you

if the item that stresses you is not in your room or you cannot touch it. realise that you cannot impact it in anyway from where you are/at that time. AND realise that it is not bruising you or punching you or physically falling on your head.

look out the window or door
is the stress something in your yard or street.
if not it cannot impact you

think about the item that stresses you. can you do anything about it right now this second

if not then stop worrying about it. think about other things.
if you cant change it. there is no point thinking about it.

use your time to change the things you can change/impact

2013 and 2017 and 2021 are all ATH that are 1 year after a halvening event

its where prices speculate to premium bubbles and get too high. and then correct down back to value

the highs are pre bubble. the hype and premium. they are not sustainable prices.

the correction is back down to sensible sustainable value amounts

welcome to the world of the 4 year cycle

4648  Economy / Economics / Re: Elizabeth Warren unveils bipartisan bill to tackle crypto money laundering on: December 14, 2022, 10:59:43 PM
pure bull crap

first its trying to call developers and miners "money service businesses" .. they have no clue at all

secondly extending bank secrecy act and KYC has nothing to do with protecting the customers funds from rogue exchanges. but make non exchanges to now stop accepting transactions unless people provide ID.

none of that has anything at all to do with protecting the consumer

ok everyone
use the bill proposers contact page
https://www.warren.senate.gov/contact/shareyouropinion
https://www.marshall.senate.gov/contact/contact-form/

tell them exactly why a developer and miner is not a money service business

inform them that they are trying to do the equivalent of:
asking dollar retailer of goods and services to ask for photo ID on every starbucks coffee purchase where the barista has to verify every ID and photocopy every ID and store it incase questioned later.

customer: can i have a latte
barrista: do you have a photo ID and can you wait 24hours whilst we run an employment, social security and a credit check on you.

..
tell the politicians that its also like they are asking the postman that collates peoples pay cheques/bank statements/gift cards into a sorting office. to ask people to supply ID every time someone posts a envelope containing money/cheque

tell them they are trying to play dumb to enforce a stupid policy that has absolutely nothing to do with consumer protection
4649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SBF, arrested! on: December 14, 2022, 08:11:00 PM
It's a good thing he was arrested so that others know they can't skip after committing a crime on crypto. Unfortunately, users are unlikely to receive their funds back.

not complete, in full
but the current administrator (ceo) has found atleast $1b of the $8bill hole. so expect at most so far 10cent on the dollar after lawyer/admin syphons, oops i mean consultation fees

oh and also expect the gratuitous "for the benefit of maximising returns" 3-4 year delay of waiting for the next halving cycle before pay out.. to have the values in dollar amounts multiply to then maximise returns

but because you the sole signer they all end up in one pc anyweay so spreading he keys out is less than needed (unless value risk is extensive to be worth the extra efforts)

Not if each signing is air gapped. The keys never need to all be in one place.

if your the sole person signing. then you are being too elaborate to be running off to 3 locations if you are the only signer. id only justify running off to 3 locations to sign if the values were more then a few months/years salary. and worth the journey each month(infrequently)

usually just airgapped at home and put the device in a strongbox thats welded to the foundations of your home.

just be sure to have a 'change' address that the remainder goes to that is a new multisig. so that you can wipe the wallet after spend and be at no key use risk. and have new private keys for the 75% hoard each time you use it (dont re-use address per spend)

You don't need to create new private keys after every spend. Multisig wallets create new addresses like single sig wallets.

and each of those addresses have a corresponding private key

you personally dont manually with your fingertips on a keyboard create them. but the software is doing it. and storing it in the wallet. so just be cautious of the wallet file

4651  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cold storage dilemma on: December 14, 2022, 07:50:43 PM
Sure. I'd probably keep 25% on a single sig and 75% on multisig. There is evidently a trade off between distributed risk (i.e., distributed funds) and creating a situation that builds up too much risk from being too complex. I think two addresses properly safeguarded should do it?

for the 25% single. treat that as your hotwallet regular spend

for 75% the multisig. if you are the sole signer. obviously you end up putting the keys into a wallet to maybe once a month top up the single.
but because you the sole signer they all end up in one pc anyweay so spreading the keys out is less than needed (unless value risk is extensive to be worth the extra efforts)

just be sure to have a 'change' address that the remainder goes to that is a new multisig. so that you can wipe the wallet after spend and be at no key use risk. and have new private keys for the 75% hoard each time you use it (dont re-use address per spend)

where you have not put the priv keys into a online pc of the new multisig. you just make the public multisig offline to grab the public address to be used as the destination of the change.

and only reveal the private when its time to spend

that way your not having to reveal the private keys too often and only use them once.

as said. if you were to be putting those keys into a bank safety deposit box. it then becomes a hassle to do that each month. so only needed if you are going to be not touching 75% hoard that often or the amounts are just to much value to risk hoarding keys at home.

but obviously to generate these keys even before funding the addresses should be done on an offline system

..

but in short. just do what feels right to you dependant on how much value you feel is at risk and how much elaborateness you want to mitigate the risks, dependant on how awkward it would be to manage making payments each time you want to make a payment.

so think more about how your lifestyle fits your value. more then the technology capabilities.
4652  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SBF, arrested! on: December 14, 2022, 07:39:25 PM
I can tell by now that Caroline is a lot more influential than SBF. So we may be able to see SBF commit suicide.

Cowards do not raise their hands on themselves, and I don't think Bankman would ever have the strength to do something like that. Apart from that, regardless of everything that happened, I think that he has a very good chance of not getting hurt too much in the process.
I even imagine SBF being treated as a VIP

i dont think SBF will be given an 'epstien neck tie'
epstein had no kids or wife or parents to care about him.

SBF has devoted parents. so SBF will do deals to reduce/avoid his sentence
4653  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cold storage dilemma on: December 14, 2022, 07:25:20 PM
it all depends on how much value you are hoarding/spending that can decide how elaborate you wish to have it

but keep in mind these 2 things

have 2 wallets
reduce the amount of use of a master/privkeys use on an online system

small spend amount
large spend/hoar amount

dont keep all funds on one address no matter how elaborate you make that address composition

also if your the sole signer. ensure you are not key leaking by having the keys on a system that is online often/at all.

if you are going to be online spending often. definitely use the small pot big pot idea where the big pot is not used as frequently and used just to top-up refill the small pot

its more about decisions of your lifestyle and personal finance risk that matters more then the technical abilities of key creation.

EG if its grocery amounts. dont worry too much. if its car purchase, house purchase, island purchase amounts.. then get more elaborate
4654  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cold storage dilemma on: December 14, 2022, 06:35:38 PM
issues with multisig

before even funding the keys you have to create the keys. and then consolidate them into a multisig for your funding and then use them repeatedly to then sign funds as you move them regularly..

thus your home system initially has to use a master key.. to make the child keys to then have to walk to a bank and rent a safety deposit box

setting up a master key on an offline computer. is always the first step even before buying a safety deposit box at a bank vault.. to put the keys into..

so step one is creating the keys..which i suggest using a master key to create 2 child keypairs
(well a triplet elder brothers key set for the multisig) and then a child key(legacy/single) for daily spend easy access

where you for ease of use for daily spend only use a small amount of funds allocated to it the single use. which does not need the elaborate walk to the bank/log into a service need.

and separately once a month top up that small spend address with another wallet that is more elaborate in its security

but then still have the master key held in secret by you alone..

EG if 2 banks were robbed.. you can still quickly use master key at home to generate the 3keys again and move your large stash of coins out before the robbers get to the copies of the keys you put in a banks vault

(personally i dont see the need for the elaborate bank vault separation of keys unless you are to wipe your wallet files daily to ensure no one can hack your online pc at home..

to me as long as you keep your master key offline(separate device) secure. then a hacker cant get to your master keys)

but its all from the prospective of how much value you are storing and such

EG usually institutions have 3 managing partners with 1 key each.
but if you are sole custody sole human signing. all keys end up on one system, so whats the point in triple signing(unless you are denying yourself easy access to keys by wiping wallet files per use and having to physically go to a bank /online store source/card source to gather the keys per use)
4655  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SBF, arrested! on: December 14, 2022, 06:23:49 PM
Regarding the FTT token, it will only be a garbage token.

value at post today of the 195,869,337 FTT transfer last month is today $274m
so yea not really worth even trying to sell as just selling off that amount would crash the market and make them worth less than that to cash out..

days/weeks before his arrest SBF was hoping  that FTT would ATH again at a 20x of transfer dated price ($400m) to make value of assets in bahama custody $8b

of course it wont happen even at a 30x of today to get a $8b  value of the 195m coins.. that still wont net the bahama gov $8b because as soon as they sale them it would crash the ATH
4656  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A class about Bitcoin is being taught at the university.I am an teacher on there on: December 14, 2022, 06:02:31 PM
a computer science and engineering class.
hmm

seems it should be a course relating to code, data structures and how bitcoin/blockchains use them... not :
"As per our plan
..
how bitcoin works, how to store it, how to protect bitcoin wallet, benefits of investing in bitcoin, what benefits can be gained by knowing about bitcoin, what are the future problems you can face if you don't know about bitcoin , What role will bitcoin play in the country's economy, is there any possibility of bitcoin harming the country, etc etc..."

as that sounds like a topic for the economics students not the CSE students

if i were to run a class. i would be setting up a simple data structure and getting students to IP link to each other to send a message to each other where they can set rules on how to collate messages into a basket(block) and then hash the block where they can then request from their peers the hash to ensure collaborative agreement of data integrity/structure

then include the hash as part of the next basket(block) of messages to link(chaining) the blocks together.

this could be done in just a few lines of code as a most simplest expression of a blockchain. and then develop the class from there about how the messages can be secured with cryptographic signatures to prove certain entities and them alone signed the message. and then put a reward system in for the hashing to create a value thats inserted into the messages to transform them into transactions

and thus using true CSE to explain the principles of blockchains and bitcoin

4657  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cold storage dilemma on: December 14, 2022, 05:23:00 PM
far better to self manage your keys and not rely on services..

however the storage of keys is a different story to the utility of keys after hashing to PKH to then use in things like multisig..

your main topic is about self sovereign and storage. so lets delve into that

you can store your master seed locally at home. where you wont need to touch often. (basically a emergency only use.  should you forget where u put your daughter keys) thus not need to have on a online pc at home that puts you at risk.. but instead a paper wallet or offline PC you use just to generate keypairs on..

and then derive some daughter keypairs from that. maybe have a small subset of keypairs for a low value wallet.. and a large value wallets of keypairs.

use the small value wallet in association with a service/multisig thus risking less value being lost or hacked by the service co-signee partners bad software or flaw or etc etc.yada yada yada.. to use and spend regularly in a easy access fashion..

and have the main large hoard of value on the other wallet you protect personally and now and again top up funds to the small value wallet

the beauty of bitcoin is you are not stuck needing to choose where or how you store or locate one key. you can use multiple keys and assign different risks to them and put differing amounts into them depending on that risk

but keep the master key safe in your own local storage away from third parties

4658  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it Satoshi Nakamoto's Identity?? on: December 14, 2022, 03:57:06 PM
topic creator. change title to debunked allegation.

gmax and wuille both quickly debunked the allegation. so dont try now reviving a dud-fud by questioning if its still a candidate of satoshi.. its not so end the speculation.

then lock topic as its non-news
4659  Other / Off-topic / Re: Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) on: December 14, 2022, 03:45:04 PM
they should rename it posses now pay ASAP

customer is not "buying it now" they just to take it home..
they should pay it off asap to ensure they dont incur any high interests or penalties

as for the shop/merchant
they get the full price from the loan company. plus a small referrer/affiliate commission ontop

the loan company is not much at risk
small claims court of a $1k phone can turn into the customer paying $3k in loan repayments or court fines. so the loan company breaks even.. sooner or later
4660  Economy / Economics / Re: Binance's Alleged Crypto Audit Failed, Its Auditor Refused to Vouch For It on: December 14, 2022, 03:34:07 PM
Binance has announced its reserves. It is even the first to explain and can be seen online from the coinmarket.
What Binance announced is self reported and can be manipulated in myriad of ways. If everything is fine and dandy, why even the company that did so called audit for them won't even vouch for it? Something fishy is going on, that's why.

the accounts of customer balance total.. and also the show of enough coin in binance control show that binance has enough coins to meet customer balance

HOWEVER this audit does not guarantee or prevent human decision to just say "nah we wont use these X00k coin to pay out to X00k customers. we want to buy a island to retire on instead.. bye"

so yes they have coin reserves that meet customer balance(if they choose to use those coins for that). but that does not mean those coins WILL be given to customers on a bank run via any robust mechanism that stops those coins being spent on cocktails on an island next week. month. year instead

the audit does not guarantee morals

thats the difference

proof of reserves does prove reserves.. but it does not prove human decision later

whats needed is a legal document/regulation that says those audited reserves are now locked to only be used for customer balance. if spent on anything else, go straight to jail do not collect $100

Take your money out of Binance as well, unless you want to say goodbye to it in case Binance goes down (and there is always a chance for that).

yep better safe than sorry
