1541  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Broken BTC Withdrawals on Gox -- 2230 EST, 28 JAN: 1654 broken TX!! on: February 02, 2014, 04:48:07 PM
Have had btc in MtGox for almost a year.  Made one or two withdrawals over the last year no problem.  Now, logging in for the first time this year I get "Your account has been restricted from accessing funding options. Please contact support@mtgox.com for additional information on why your account has been restricted."  My shown btc balance is correct however.  Really an annoyance as I need to withdraw some to pay bills.  I suspect the new year celebrations are playing a part.

Heh, the upgrade modules will go on sale for only the last 5 minutes of the superbowl. Smiley

i want upgraded module Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Sorry, but KNC is busy protecting their customers' share of the network. (Protecting the share from increasing)

Yes.  Static isn't but rather falling behind.

Ah, back up again.  KnC mining perfectly, my USB BEs dying off one by one, Blade is okay as is the Jalapeno.  Waiting for a cable guy and he's to be here 23 minutes ago to 5PM.  Decided to let them in just so they know the increased power isn't for a grow house.  My chickens will go crazy and not lay much for a day.  Dog will raise holy hell.  Digital cable down.  They lowered power I think.  Probably want me to upgrade to a newer box.  I don't expect any chaff about the miners.  He will berate me on my VCR cablebox setup as I don't want the cablebox controlling but rather the VCR which has additional inputs and ouputs.  They want the cablebox first as it's restrictive.  To use the VCR and its inputs/outputs as I want I need put in a splitter.  I don't think he'll like my alternative which is one or two more lines in for free so I don't need the splitter.  Absolutely must find an alternative to cable but no DSL in this area of the hinterland.  Could get a 56k modem line.  Must stop in and see my old CCNA instructor and find out what my alternatives are - he will know.  Must keep the KnC mining.

have you got good mobile phone coverage (3G).?

I bought a Billion BiPAC 7800VDOX ADSL+ router and it has USB port which can take a USB 3G dongle.  I've also bought a sim with a network provider which has 10Gb download valid for 12 months and cost $99 AUD, which I use as backup if DSL goes down.  Seems to work just as good as my DSL.
nouveau bitcoin riche I moved from a stimoble prepaid cell which had lousy reception to PagePlusCellular via kittywireless.  Just using the phone and haven't used any web.  The phone is a HTC Incredible2 so I don't see any tethering like I could do with the stimoble until they banned me from web usage.

still waiting....30 minutes left in the arrival window

All done.  The problem is that with the VCR first the box can't communicate with the office for pay-per-view which I never buy.

So, when do we get to buy upgrade cards?

Merc is hashing again reliably now that the docsis 3.0 cable modem is no longer registering as offline.  I see that the HTC Inc2 *can* be tethered.  Now I know that a Mercury with a single additional module hashes at a  high difficulty so as a result there's not a correspondingly great increase in data to and from a pool as compared to lesser miners, but is there a graph anywhere that says when hashing at x, y, or z difficulty, at various given hashrates, what the 24 hour quantity of data is thru put?  And does a cell phone data plan count both uploaded bytes and downloaded bytes?  In other words, what kind of dataplan capability would I need to use a tethered cellphone as a failsafe for a downed cable modem?

Interestingly, KnC will have facility in Iceland at some point:
http://www.engadget.com/2014/01/10/KnCMiner-interview/?ncid=rss_truncated
at 11:30-11:45min ("[Iceland...]That's where eventually we'll go")

Wait and see.  It won't be the young guys getting the promotions who see their relatives moving to Iceland, but the relatives on their wives' side.  The wives will adjust with their kids of course but the homesickness will have them describing their new lives very glowingly to their parents, the maternal grandparents of the kids that are moved.  and for the kids, the ideal is for kids to start in a good school and move on up thru grades with as many of the early schoolmates for as far up as is possible.  It makes a different social sense than is had by children who are relocated in grammar school.  Those who don't move are much more capable of finding a position in a social structure as an adult.  Moving in childhood raises the possibility of being a loner.  And the grandparents will find that aged memory doesn't build the same sense of home as somewhere they've lived when younger and having more vital lives and friends.

I'll never say a bad thing about the south again.  9:30PM my internet stopped.  On the phone with cable tech support multiple time but no good.  This morning after again getting no further than...
Up to here you has the beginning of a good novel. "192.168.100.1 status docsis 3.0 cable modem offline" kinda spoiled it for me  Grin

Yes.  Makes me wonder if all they had to do was reactivate the modem.  It was a Motorola and the replacement is a Cisco.   Could have been the webcast I was listening to.  Very left leaning NYC radio station that gives time to AlJazerra.

While it was down I was concerned KnC would open a short window for upgrade modules or Jups.

I've tried all sorts of approaches to get the Merc back up including removing the ribbon cables and booting to just the controller board and BBB but it doesn't show on nmap, and of course not showing up on nmap it won't answer an ssh or telnet.

I'll never say an unkind work about the south again, I promise.  must read all the missed posts or work on  the miner....

Okay removed the ribbon cables, unplugged the bbb from the ctrl brd, restarted and it's awake, now to try with ribbons

----------------

It's up again and hashing.  My KnC is usually real dependable.

Think again. $40k gets you 5 TH delivered next week. By the time you get the Neptunes, difficulty will be much higher. 5 TH now is far more profitable than 12 TH several months from now.
5th next week? Who sells them?
25+ Antminers from Bitmain.
https://www.bitmaintech.com/product.htm
3th of Antminers = 5kw (by taking 300watts per Antminer) = 31.654BTC (without shipping) = 25.8k $
3th of Neptunes = 2.5kw = 14.6BTC = 12k $

Two times more $$$ and watts for the same hash-power.

There is a really big difference here. You really can't even get a Neptune for at least another several months so why even compare right now?

All my friends requested refunds also for their Neptunes. In the bunch I think there was like 18 of them. Don't be surprised if you see some go on sale or we hear some news from KNC now. Once they see their very loyal customer base is dumping them out I'm pretty sure we'll eventually hear some thing from them soon. They only have one spokesperson here who isn't a sales person and can't really confirm on anything since all decisions are made by Sam. Only a matter of time we'll hear something. Once you are a millionaire and see possible money that could be yours leaving your bank account it starts to make you worry, no matter how much you have.

Or those of us who stand pat get extra hashing power or some other recompense.

Keeping mine.  Maybe foolish.  Prefer to mine the btc instead of watching the btc price chart, reacting emotionally to every scare tactic the traders can foist.

Perhaps my efforts to conjole KnC planners to produce and market anything that can hash soon are a mistake.
1555  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 22, 2014, 05:49:05 PM
in my calc since electricity is 27c/kw in sweden.

If your 27c/kw is correct it would clearly argue for KnC opening a production facility in Iceland.  Since there is a family relationship between KnC and CloudHashing, they might have abutting buildings exploiting the waste heat from the CloudHashing to warm the KnC remote facility, see the profits from the lower energy bills, while keeping a core development team in Sweden.

Then mining products would go directly to Cloud Hashing and sales to the public would cease as the public, and pre-existing customers, become the competition.

It might seem like dirty pool yet a company must do what it must do to survive.

Then the survivability of the remote KnC facility won't be purely the profits from selling Cloud Hashing its miners and the cost of competitive miners from Asia, it's also the morale of KnC remote facility management and production staff.  If Iceland is as provincial as the US deep south, management at the remote facility gets replaced pretty quickly by locals as the Swedish management get depressed and quit.  It stays in business but the relationship with the home office is different as those who quit have friends.  Perhaps the remote facility closes earlier than necessary or gets sold off to or licensed to CloudHashing.  The home office reads the writing on the wall and folds.  Then you've got an empty production facility and unemployed workers.

(Insert here an appropriate quote from Cool Hand Luke or Deliverance.)

Then what happens is that in choosing which employees go to Iceland they see those with the most children will benefit the most from the move as they are given promotions.  Then the grandparents weigh moving as well because the cost of living is better and grandchildren are there.  Then other siblings move bringing their family.  The grandparents die unhappy in their new country.  The siblings can't return to Sweden if they weren't with KnC as once one has moved to a lower cost of living environ, one can't later pick up roots and return, the cost takes a return move out of the question and they remain in Iceland in a community that may now have more unemployed as a result of cheap ASIAN miners driving the remote KnC facility to close.

There is a partial work-around.  Those moving to Iceland who own homes in Sweden don't sell the homes but instead turn them over to a realtor to control as rentals.  If Iceland is an unhappy place, they return home.

Comparing KnC to a company in a wealthy section of NY.  Old money had a few good sized companies which evolved from earlier businesses.  The printed circuit board company was a large employer, was cutting edge and not adverse to spinning off technologies.  It spun off a printed motor/motor control company, a multiwire circuit board company, and opened a large branch of its main business, printed circuit boards, in the south where it became the largest employer in the county in an upper scale community.  Competition from Asia not too many years back forced the closing of the PCB branch in the south followed not long after by the main PCB company in NY leaving the printed motor/motor control business, the multiwire having closed years before as an uneconomical competitor of mutilayer.  The main buildings both in the north and south now sit essentially empty.  The closing of the facility in the south was a harbinger of the northern main facility closing.  KnC might open another, less expensive to run, facility near the Cloudhashing farm for the cheaper power.  Both will run for a while then the distant facility will fold due to inexpensive competition from Asia then the main facility will fold.  A manufacturing business has to be manufacturing and selling product to stay alive, making money while the sun shines.

If the return on hashrate drops so quickly that Neptunes won't make ROI then it likely would make sense to take possession when it finally does ship and sell it quick.  When they first hit the market as immediately available the auction price will be quite  high.

I posted this then recalled something from this morning and went to edit the post but my cable went down.  Just digital and internet but couldn't fix my comment.  Just now up after almost 1½ hours.

Maybe the auction price on future just arrived Neptunes won't be that great given I saw something about $6/GHs group buy this morning with relatively soon delivery for Avalon2's I think.  That price will drop and by the time the Neptunes ship, the Avalon2's will be cheaper by a good deal maybe.

I've increased the SPI voltage on my miner to 1.95V (default) all the way up to 2.40V and it hasn't changed in anyway. How do you "overclock" these? I want to just add a little more juice and overlock a "small" bit....but there are only a few voltage selections left.

Misnomer - not overclocked, additional modules added beyond 4.

Having seen how sexy the HF and CT cases are, a really interesting on-topic discussion would be the neptune case design? No one has even mentioned that yet.

I'm sure knc would appreciate some input at this early stage, way before they start, so they don't go and make the Jupiter mistake again (i.e. front heatsinks blasting hot air into back heatsinks, attaching last minute baffles to lid - a lid which many people leave off)  Cool

Assuming they go for a 4 board design again, what would be your ideal neptune case look like? Air/water/oil?

There were some mock ups on the Kncminer forums a while ago, can't find them now.

I'd like water or oil, easier to build a little cooling system for multiple units rather than buying loads of noisy fans.

Aye, something that would lend itself to running plumbing thru the wall to the outside where forced air cooling of the ASICs' circulating fluid would be sufficient even when it's 102°F out while the rest of the electronics are at a reasonable room temperature.  Or if the ASICs need to be even cooler, an outside forced air pre-cooler then a second cooling indoors.
