So, pissing contest aside, is there any information about the progression of the ASIC chip?  I understand that it's based on the present KnC ASIC IC so it's functionality would from that standpoint be expected but about the very sub-microscopic element of the new design - I read that the process in general suffers from unanticipated never before seen quantum effects at the atomic level.  If that's so then probably the fixes that seemed to have improved a competitors 65nm ASIC might be applicable but is there any worry on that score?

Wouldn't it be a kick if as some kind of penance for success they've sold a process that some specialists could know as impossible.  That's a lot of btc that isn't going into other available mining gear.

I agree.  Selling timeshares on Ebay is out tho.

I was thinking of the German Ebay offering of 12 hours output from a Jupiter for some hundreds of Euros but now I'm thinking about the group buys with hosting one sees here on bitcointalk.org in Bitcoin Forum > Bitcoin > Mining > Hardware > Group buys.

So, if twenty guys go in on a Neptune purchase they own 1/20th of the miner, one of the owners does the operation and pays out to the other owners.  When it gets down to the billing of power, rental on the space to run the miner, and some hourly wage for checking in on it, I'd guess it would be tougher to argue that it's privately owned.

lol

Oh yea - it's your fault!
Well, we've got to pass the time until the next big piece of KnC news talking about something...

Yes.  If January Jupiters, wonder if the 3rd or sometime between the 7th and 10th.  The 3rd is 5 days away and these last few have been slow post days here.

FINCEN was created not to hamstring Bitcoin miners but to impeded illegal drug imports that addict and kill Americans.  That the banks have another agenda and can exert influence to use FINCEN regulations to make Bitcoin use difficult is another story.  Just my opinion.

Because it's in U.S. Dollars, and includes transmitting to wallets in the USA

I see, like some hosting services will pay out in dollars not btc.
1686  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 29, 2013, 07:06:34 PM
A mining pool will probably have to run the full gamut of regulations. They will be providing services and creating the actual coin, sending it to miners in many states and all over the world. Of course the rules will need to be changed a lot as they are based on USD. It's not about understanding the announcement Phoenix, it is about understanding how little it means. It's good news either way, with general acceptance and a process to operate under color of law, this gets more legitimate.
agreed... is many ways it's excellent news....for miners, and legitimizes BTC all the more....   Wink

I just wanted to make clear to O'rama & KNC that they need to examine this a little closer before they celebrate too soon!
It's VERY important, since they host miners!

KnC does not host miners in the US so why the angst?

If all that hole-flow occurs in another country then it doesn't concern Fincen.  If BP electronically sends it's payroll to an oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico from an account in the British Empire what concern is it of the US Fincen?

Like Norway ruled Bitcoin is an asset not a currency.  That might only effect US legal considerations as a guideline not a rule.  FINCEN determinations about hosting in this country again might be considered a guideline but other countries have no problem with things like >$10,000 international transfers per day per individual because if they did it would have made it very difficult to quickly buy a $13k miner.

Best news yet! We don't have to register as money transmitters with fincen!

http://cointext.com/fincen-issues-bitcoin-friendly-ruling-for-miners/

Beat me to it, was just about to post that!

So back to $1000 after the New Year  Roll Eyes

Love that ruling.

So, 'after the New Year' - you figure it might be something like retirees waiting to take money out of IRA's to put into BTC so the withdrawal is on next year's taxes?

I don't think I've ever seen the MtGox trading volume as flat as it's been for the last 20 hours.

hashfast have cheap price
more Ghash
have psu
have coolwater
good case

iam litle sad with knc

There are likely many pragmatists here not unwilling to buy GH products but of course having pre-paid for KnC miners and getting a good GH/s/$, or $/GH/s if you prefer, when KnC products are available, the choice of putting down dollars now for batch 3 GigaHash miners that won't be available for 1/4th of a year isn't very enticing.
1689  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 28, 2013, 04:40:30 PM
Yes, I, an existing customer waited too long and found myself in batch 1.

Wouldn't it be nice if for existing customers who found themselves in batch 1 they throw in an upgrade module for the existing customer's Oct or Nov miner, this for the strange price bump then drop.

The whole purpose of the network protection statement was to protect their customer's share of the network.  Why would they sell to the public?  That would be the opposite of protecting their customer's share of the network.

Because they've already done it in the past.. and in their recent announcement, they let everyone know to be ready. The protection statement itself was mostly a gimmick anyhow.
Uuuuh... Maybe because we are the public. You expect them to limit sales from now on to previous customers? I wish....lol

But we did pre-order from an unproven company.  I wonder if I listed my Bitcoin proceeds as gambling returns my tax exposure would be more or less.
That can't tax you for online gambling in the USA... because online gambling is illegal here...
But you may run into other problems....  like the gambling site you use disappears one morning...
and all the BTC get confiscated....    ug  be careful!

No worries.  My gambling is limited to pre-order bitcoin miners (biggest value gamble I ever made) and a buck or two on FantasyFive if over $200k.

For a while when I was younger and not finding work in my field I delivered parts to garages for a local autoparts store (non-national).  I was impressed with one of the owners telling his bookie 3k on a game.  My Merc was right up there with that.

It could also be that one of the other wires had no connection. (insulation in crimp)
The remaining now have more load than they the can handle.

Without disparaging the choice of conductor material.
;-)

Nice one.

Given that there were fires, it might be prudent for KnC to whip up a test fixture that will pump 5 amps thru each conductor of that 4 conductor extension cable with a go/no-go indicator rejecting for any significant variations - this for any new miners that ship with those blue cable extensions.  Their lab could design and build one pretty quickly as it would be a one off.  A box with a red/green LED, a plug and socket for each end of the blue extension, and a test button.  Guts would have current sensing on each conductor that must fall within some window.
I can just see it now...   "Houston... we have a bad indicator light on pci 1, are we still go for throttle-up?"
Houston to Neptune...  "Change the cable Neptune"
Roger that Houston...  are we there yet?  Because the licorice dispenser is out too!

Just as an update...  yesterday...

"We don't have more information about the upcoming Jupiter yet. We will post more information int our webpage regarding this, please keep an eye on our webpage."

I had bank woes, and she was working with me off & on all thru the day here in Hawaii, so she had to be up all night between 8pm & 2am Sweden time.
Give the girl a raise!

I really am amazed at the amplitude of floundering @ HF & CT...
also   can anyone confirm....
I heard that too many vendors signed up for Manufacture @ Global Foundries & that they are still busy making graphics cards, giving other ASIC companies the cold shoulder 'till the other bookings on the 28nm line are complete... anyone else heard this?
If so, I guess the substrates shortage there at Global Foundries was BS?   Did seem fishy when it was stated.
I'm guessing one or more of the Graphics cards lines had a problem. that moved everyone back a month or two?
My noontime network hashrate record now shows over 10,000,000GH/s twice in the last 4 days.  Still I've seen some lucky hashing tho the payout per share has dropped.  Wonder how shocked I'll be at the rise once the competition really gets down to shipping.

Is it normal for the blue ASIC power supply clip (white clip from PSU to blue cable) to get hot? The other cables aren't really hot or hot at all, but this clip is quite warm although I can still hold onto it for a while without having to remove my fingers due to the heat?

Try closing the barrels a bit so they are more snug on the pins of the mating clip.

If some, say 2 of the 4, are loose and not making good contact then the other 2 will be carrying more current and that could cause excessive heat.

How do I close the barrels? (lol)... sorry Smiley

You might take a pick and gently insert the point down one side along the split in the barrel.  Kind of a silly question isn't it?  Look at the plug, look at the barrels, figure out how to close them a bit.  Use your imagination.  Not too closed now or when you go to put in the mating plug it could jam.

1700  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN IN-STOCK] batch #33 0.38 btc per Blade, 49-port HUBS, backplanes on: December 27, 2013, 12:42:19 AM
Hi Canary, the replacement Blade has arrived.  It is one of the new versions, V2.001 I believe not having the replaceable fuse nor reset headers, in an unopened static proof envelop.

The Blade, although showing activity on the RJ45 port is not appearing on the network.  I've run nmap 192.168.1.* and have mapped every device on my local network including ports open.  It would seem like it might have been setup with some other network, e.g. 192.168.0.1 or something else.

I have reset the device by putting pins in the factory reset and ground (ground being the center pin between factory reset and reset) and an alligator clip across the pins and awakened the miner from off, left on for 30 seconds, turned off, removed the pins and replaced the cat5 cable, restarted, and still no report of its existence on 192.168.1.0.  I have tried http://192.168.1.254:8000 repeatedly without results.

I am supplying 11.9vdc to the Blade.

What do you suggest?

soy

Okay, I have it on nmap now.  It is a brand new cat5 cable so I knew it wasn't that.  Two or three days ago two 8 port high speed switches arrived from the Orient.  They had wall warts for Europe but I'm using an adapter and it's working for a raspberry pi I use for stratum.  I just swapped the cable to an older 8 port TP-Link switch and now I see the Blade.

Efficiency is coming up slowly but the pool, which was showing 1 week 5 days for the last share for this worker, is now showing shares.  Thanks.

I note I have modified my Blade stand.  Previously the Blade was standing RTV'd in slots in two PVC pipes and a pair of 120mm fans blowing on the heatsink from a distance of about 1½", as well as a room fan some distance away blowing at the miner.  Now I lay the two 120mm fans down on a metal bar rack having open air.  The fans are attached to one another and at one end two PVC are vertical.  On the vertical PVC I have another fan, something like an 80mm, on a down angle.  I place the miner on top of the two 120mm fans, heatsink down and the 80mm fan blows across the Blade top.

Up to 92.10% and rising.  I'm a happy customer.
I've heard 2 reports of network problems prior to this.  one was with belkin u-verse branded equipment, second was because the ports on the switch were set to 100MB and since blades are 10MB Eth, they would not work.  so it's possible that autosensing isn't working properly on your network switch/hub from the Orient or 10MB speed isn't supported.

Yes, the Blade is fine on the TP-Link 8 port switch.  Also, using the European to US adapter on the power supply perhaps the voltage isn't what it should be.  Happy with the Blade.  Now, is friedcat going to be selling anything new/novel in addition to Block Erupters?
