The free market is a myth. You can't point to something that doesn't exist and say it's working fine, or would work if the state weren't involved.
Why not. We can't have trade without a violent institution getting a cut? I think we can trade perfectly fine without being robbed and controlled. Seems pretty obvious to me. There can be no market without the state involved at some level. Even in the bitcoin economy now we see the rise of the bitcoin foundation, a political, legal and corporate government entity.
The bitcoin foundation is not a government entity. They neither taxes me or regulates me under threat of violence. It is purely voluntary. When you have money, you have a state, and therefore there is no free market.
Interesting. Money implies state. Could you justify that statement? Money is a matter of opinion. Opinions differ. How can an efficient market exist without some level of government or force majeure deciding what the common unit of value is? And if there is none then it turns to barter of disparate goods/currencies, which is fine, but proves the assertion that money is a matter of opinion.

Between the latest nVidia drivers and this latest release, my machine no longer crashes the driver when mining with CGMiner. Thanks!

As long as Bitcoin stays open source and voluntary, I don't see a problem of anybody funding its development even if it's a CIA or JPMorgan. What we should fight for is to have an open market for alternative currencies.
Cryptocurrency is best served as a natural monopoly. Bitcoin will likely be the only popular cryptocurrency. It's not a like it or leave it type of thing. We do no not need it controlled by the government or the largest bank. It doesn't have to be a monopoly. If we look at gold, for example, one might argue that it was a natural monopoly on money, but I would argue that silver (even though less valuable) served as money as well. And we already have "silver" to Bitcoin's "gold" - it's called Litecoin. Once the "current" coin (Bitcoin at the moment) moves to a specialized mining hardware like ASICs the general purpose hardware becomes available for the next experiment (currently Litecoin). The same shift will likely happen again when Litecoin ASICs show up at some point in the future. Litecoin brings faster blocks and as a result higher overall network throughput (due to 1Mb per block limit) before hard fork is required. It also will adopt important blockchain optimizatons earlier in its evolution and will likely have more equal coin distribution than Bitcoin due to increased community awareness when it was started. I'm sure there will be other successful coins as well. Adoption wise, it would take one or two major payment processors like Bit-Pay to take any alt-coin on board to make all the difference. I'm going to stick with Bitcoin and defend it until death for the interests of those who want a protocol that can't be easily changed. I am not going to Litecoins, Cosbycoins or Free Speech Zone Coins. Thanks. Or we can do the sensible thing and abandon the ridiculous and paralyzing idea of money altogether and actually help other people to live better.

My point is that our social, political and economic foundations distort our value system that leads to many people placing too much emphasis on profit, greed, personal wealth etc. The majority of people just want to have a comfortable and meaningful life that they can share with others.
Yeah but what's your plan exactly to provide the means for people to have the comfortable and meaningful life you're talking about? Stealing the work and savings of people people who only care of profit and personal wealth? If so, then I guess greed is not so bad after all, since it allows you to create the wealth you plan to steal. Our technological and scientific progress will allow for us to meet the needs of all people. The earth we all share is common heritage to all people, no one has inherent rights to owning a piece for themselves. We share the planet we have for the betterment of all.

I've read and heard a bit about the Zeitgeist Movement, and it always amounts to some ideals about what we "could" obtain if we just did this and that. They're really good at stating the "what", without answering the "how". How do we apply all these ideals? LightRider, you keep saying that humans being are deficient, that all we care about is profit. Does this include yourself, and if so, what are you doing to change that? EDIT: Also, can some - point by point - explain the exact differences between Anarcho Capitalism and a Resource Based Economy, please? EDIT2: For anyone interested in seeing Stefan Molyneux debate a ZM advocate, check out this video, starting at 42:08 (the link will take you to that time stamp in the video): http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=hxjwBZjADiM#t=2528sEverything before that is fairly irrelevant to the discussion IMO. I don't believe that I've claimed that human beings are deficient and that all we care about is profit. My point is that our social, political and economic foundations distort our value system that leads to many people placing too much emphasis on profit, greed, personal wealth etc. The majority of people just want to have a comfortable and meaningful life that they can share with others. I don't know much about annarcho-capitalism to contrast it to an RBE, but capitalism in general is antithetical to an RBE in the first place, so I can't imagine them being very similar.

Who decides if a board member candidate is "a member in good standing"?
What criteria would you use to determine if the foundation is doing something that it should not be doing?
Give examples of what you think the foundation would do that would cause you to resign and no longer promote it.
What happens when (not if, but when) the foundation's wallet gets hacked, either via internal or external malicious actors, and Gavin can't be paid to do the work for a period of time? What measures will the foundation and its members pursue in order to regain their wealth, and what privacy or fungibility will be sacrificed in order to reach that goal?
What special privileges will board members grant each other? Will Gavin get to trade with zero fees on MtGox or BitInstant, for example?
If you engage in political lobbying, what percentage of foundation funds will be made available to that endeavor, and to what parties or politicians do you expect these funds to go, and what would you be lobbying for?
Do you expect to be given approval rights for bitcoin advertisements, services, businesses or trademark use?
When will Gavin have to return to his home planet?

I mainly feel bad for dogging out on Gavin Andresen. I actually like the man. I just don't like anybody running Bitcoin. I apologize, Gavin. I get really passionate at times.
Anyways, I ought to explain why I am such a douchebag: My perception is skewed to where I think the whole world is shit. I think everything is falling apart and everything is against me. Rationally and objectively, that is not the case. We live in a rudderless world with many powers at play. Yet after seeing and reading about war, corruption and other "evils" extensively, I can't help but to feel terror lurks around every corner and every facet in life. This turns me into a really butthurt and annoying faggot. Especially when I think everyone hates me. It's why I am always surprised by any genuine respect that comes my way. I literally expect everyone to hate me outright. And, well, that makes me a very depressed individual at times.
I'll try to be more rational. I'll try to be more collected in the future.
Thanks.
We live in a society that is fundamentally hostile to human life. Your fears are somewhat justified. Instead of lashing out at particular individuals, learn how and why the various systems and institutions that affect our lives are in fact causing so much destruction and death. You won't be quite as angry if you understand what is really happening.

Can you guys please tell me, if you did an upgrade install or removed the old version before installing 0.7? Another interesting thing would be how the Bitcoin URI entry in your registry looks like.
Enter regedit and go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\bitcoin\shell\open\command for that info.
Oh and please verify that you are using latest 0.7 release and no former RC!
Dia
I installed over the RC versions. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bitcoin\bitcoin-qt.exe" "$1" The drag and drop method works. Can you please change "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bitcoin\bitcoin-qt.exe" "$1" into "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bitcoin\bitcoin-qt.exe" "%1" and report back! Dia Of course! The symbol switching did the job. Thanks. However, the text in the comment is "bitcoin+foundation+donation". I don't know if the '+' symbols are supposed to be rendered like that.

Oh good, all the less competition for DeVCoin. Do you support the DeVCoin foundation?
How about the Litecoin foundation?
The Ixcoin foundation?
Well surely, at least, the I0coin foundation?
Sigh, well, what about the Coiledcoin foundation?
Ah well if not maybe its time to start a BBQcoin foundation and/or a PPCoin foundation?
Notice I didn't mention a GRouPcoin foundation? If you are against foundations, jump aboard GRouPcoin, we have groups, not foundations!
-MarkM-
I would donate dozens of satoshis to the Buttcoin foundation.

Gavin Andreesen is a CIA operative/extra-terrestrial and he posts on the forums all the time.

This foundation, and any hierarchy/bureaucracy/centralization of authority in general, is a response to the highly corrupt and invalid social institutions that are the foundations of our culture. Why do we need to pay Gavin to code? Because the false institutions of money, government and religion are the dominant social institutions that affect his life, and he is not afforded the necessities of life, but must compete for them in an increasingly corrupt and deadly game of arbitrary rules called capitalism.
It takes far more effort and resources to construct and maintain an heirarchy than it does to engender and promote holography. This is the reason every such institution eventually becomes corrupt and fails.
Hopefully, the monetary game will be shown to be invalid and a new resource based economy can take its place, which will lead to a reality based society, which has no needs for false authority and associated institutions.

I tried using the Donation link on the bitcoin foundation page, and nothing happened in the bitcoin client. I don't know what the expected behavior is, but I assume it isn't nothing.

Q: The Foundation is a corporation, and corporations (especially US corporations) are evil.
OK. So don't join-- go form your own non-corporate non-evil organization, or just ignore the Foundation and do whatever you think is right.
Saving this for posterity.
