1101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Too many gizmos and doo-dads in some of the new coins on: August 21, 2014, 10:07:55 AM
But how can a coin succeed if it doesn't have the phrase "<coin> platform" somewhere in the OP? And how will anyone use it unless if also has built in chat?

/thread

lol love the subtle stab at XC - and yes I completely agree with you - lets develop every feature under the sun all at once - chat, phone, video, atms, anonymity  - dont worry - it will be top quality /sarcasm lol

Ah it wasn't meant to be a stab at them specifically - I was thinking about coins that have exchange "software" built into the Qt wallet (for what??) and shove an IRC client into it and call that revolutionary.
1102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which is the best scam? on: August 21, 2014, 09:56:38 AM
Objective signs of a shitcoin (that includes crapcoins and scamcoins):

 - constantly falling price sans the occasional, well-coordinated pump (after which it falls to or below pre-pump levels)
 - broken wallet or blockchain that isn't getting fixed
 - the dev has been associated with other verified shitcoins
- ... feel free to add to this list, lets discuss for the sake of research

I'd add:

 - any coin with an IPO, a premine, an instamine, a ninjamine (except for instances where it is outside of the developer's control or influence - cbuchner1 heavily mining BBR comes to mind, it's not their fault that he has the ability to develop a fast GPU miner)
 - closed source with vague hand-wavy promises of future open source (except, perhaps, for edge cases where a binary is released for general testing on testnet, anything on mainnet should be open-sourced immediately)
 - any coin with a whitepaper completely devoid of cryptographic soundness and mathematical proofs

For fudsters and doubters on why is Monero best CN coin:

https://monerotalk.org/t/why-is-monero-the-best-cryptonote-coin/21/10

That thread makes no sense whatsoever. It presents zero facts, and has nothing more than a couple of pointless one-liners.

*I* believe in Monero because I know what we can turn it can become, but don't overstate what it is - "Monero is as profitable as gold", lol seriously:)

It's a simple truth. The fact is that XMR can make you rich. Smiley

As one of the Monero Core Team members I can assure you that Monero has not "made me rich". It's a nice assertion, though.

Another limerick:

Whitepapers have become quite the fad
For altcoins, the good and the bad
But their numismatics
Lack good mathematics
Thus bagholders are left feeling sad!
1108  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Some Altcoin poetry on: August 20, 2014, 06:49:18 PM
But I am sure your day is made up of wiki quoting usually as fact though.

The AABBA convention is globally accepted as the nature of a limerick. I merely wanted to save myself the time that would otherwise be wasted typing that all out. Let's call it "efficient communication" and move on, shall we? Smiley
1109  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Some Altcoin poetry on: August 20, 2014, 05:56:10 PM
Limerick??

There once was a man called Bryce Weiner,
Who had a secret life was a queener.
He loved to rub his clit as he spoke Twitter shit
and quit crypto to become a raree show cleaner.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limerick_(poetry)

"A limerick is a form of poetry, especially one in five-line anapestic meter with a strict rhyme scheme (AABBA), which is sometimes obscene with humorous intent. The first, second and fifth lines are usually longer than the third and fourth."
1110  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Some Altcoin poetry on: August 20, 2014, 05:44:34 PM
How about a limerick?

There once was an altcoin - no names
Run by scammers who liked to play games
Nobody did Byte
Their dear CryptoNight
Now the scammers, they shill and post flames!

There was talk about a new way of donating. With getting something in return. Did we get some more info on that?

It'll be in this week's Missive, which will come out sometime between now and Sunday evening:-P
1112  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: August 20, 2014, 03:09:41 PM
You angry and blind. You trying to insult me, just because you have nothing to say in substance.

I have my own reasons of being anonymous, and people who i work with know exactly why, and this have no relations with your fantasy about botnets.

Sorry for off-topic.

Lighten up already, it was a joke: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stVIWf03XrQ

my blockchain still in 174145

help me

i got connection failed in set_log 1

how to fix it ?

try "print_cn" in the daemon - if you have connections then just leave it for a bit and let it sync.
1114  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [BCN] Bytecoin. Major update NOW! on: August 20, 2014, 09:04:28 AM
I think if we analysed the FUD posts and shit stirrers - Monero Fanbois would come out on top. I am not saying you are one of them but you stayed quiet when XMR FanBois with new accounts abused ALL BCN users and devs on this thread. That's a shame because that behaviour hurts all cryptonote including Monero. There is even a thread on here trashing EVERY SINGLE CRYPTONOTE SAVE MONERO! Do you support these FUDsters? Meanwhile Lightcoin clone DarkCoin has more CAP than all the cryptonotes put together.

I don't follow this thread often enough to be able to "not stay quiet". I'm also quite unable to prevent free speech. I'm not going to rehash this over and over, but I'll paste what I said on the the thread in question:

This is why I don't own XMR or any CN coin. The Monero trolls are everywhere, every coin thread Cryptonote or not, and why the fuck would I want to buy a coin when current coin owners are so desperate they feel the need to troll so dam much. Even smooth trolling the Bytecoin thread so fucking hard and he's part of the Monero team..seriously where do you guys get the time to troll so much? And you're actually hurting XMR not helping, it's just making this whole cluster fuck surrounding Cryptonote coins worse.
My conclusion, Cryptonote coins are all FUBAR

The author of this post is NOT involved with Monero in any way. I cannot refute some or even most of his findings, but I certainly disagree with the vitriolic voracity with which it is delivered. He is exceedingly angry, and that is at odds with the way any members of the Monero core team view CryptoNote or Bytecoin.

I can only find the one comment that smooth made recently in the Bytecoin thread, and I don't think there is a fundamental problem with engaging cross-thread. We harbour no ill-will against Bytecoin, so to label a tongue-in-cheek comment as "trolling" is a bit of a stretch, don't you agree? I know it's a fine line, but I don't think we're being purposely obtuse or abrasive.

As to those involved with Monero who you label "Monero trolls", we simply cannot control anyone. People are going to say good things and bad things about Monero, and it is not our responsibility or in our best interest to attempt to stifle free speech. There will always be people that passionate like or passionately hate Monero, and that's a good thing, as it encourages intense debate. For those that cross the line to trolling or excessive pandering, I apologise for their behaviour on behalf of the core team. We do not condone it, but we are also not in a position to be able to stop it. Please accept my personal apology as well if the behaviour of anyone even peripherally involved with Monero has offended you in any way.
1115  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: August 19, 2014, 11:31:25 PM
The clarification is much appreciated.  My understanding is that BBR ring sig pruning linearly reduces blockchain bloat, but is not the holy grail of transaction pruning required for logarithmic bloat reduction of the kind found in XCN's mini-blockchain.

To be clear, ring sig pruning prevents a little bit of bloat, while transaction pruning removes substantial accumulated bloat.

Also, 'dust' is the atomic unit of 'bloat.'

Did I get that right?  What do I win?   Cheesy

Spot on. Linear reductions are easy. Logarithmic are significantly harder. For your efforts you get a whale.

In CryptoNote coins ring signature is 60-90% of transaction size. With pruning ring signatures you get 60-90% smaller blockchain, compared with other cryptonote coins, you win only this here.

Yes, that is a correct example of linear. You get a whale too!

PS. In your next botnet / cryptocurrency / library project please do Star Wars references, they're a great deal more palatable than the Futurama references. And then that way you can say "I love you" and I can say "I know"Wink
1116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [BCN] Bytecoin. Major update NOW! on: August 19, 2014, 11:00:59 PM
I like how monero supporters immediately show up with a bunch of arguments.

What are we having here? A graph vs somebody's post that were supposed to take on trust i guess.

Graрh wins.

Wow, really? Ok, here:

Link to aforementioned post with graph: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.msg6593768#msg6593768

Link I ALREADY MENTIONED with NoodleDoodle explaining his changes: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.msg6597057#msg6597057

Link to github commit confirming commit date: https://github.com/monero-project/bitmonero/commit/3cc45e9324a402aee91e2f46861b2ca393d711aa

Link to my previous comment explaining the connection: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=512747.msg8434298#msg8434298

Also, I'm not a "supporter", I'm part of the Monero Core Team. I am not suddenly showing up because I have nothing to do. I was responding to this specific comment: "That's not the first time Monero developers use botnet and instamine coins". They were talking about the Monero developers...they were talking about a group of people...they were talking about ME! How can I let that stand? Would you keep quiet if someone said "AtomicDoge is stupid and is seriously overweight, he's going to die of myocardial infarction lol"? Or would you feel the need to comment?

I see it happen often on this thread - the same accounts are quick to say "XMR developers copy and paste code!" or "Monero is scam and developers have instamine" or "Of course they just bought their position on Mintpal because MRO developers are scam". You're talking to ME. You're insulting a group of people of which I am a part. It's hurtful, it's untrue, and it's uneccessary. Think about that next time you decide to throw out an insult.
1117  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: August 19, 2014, 10:44:16 PM
I've just attempted to install XMR wallet on OSX. visited the (awfully formatted) page at http://monero.cc/getting-started/ to extract the OSX setup in a tar.bz2 archive

I'm left with some cryptic error in the command line about boost librarys

Meanwhile the BBR wallet was a simple one click to setup

I'm shellshocked people are paying 17x more per XMR than each BBR in this state. Hope XMR team can correct these shortcomings.

Boost is merely statically compiled in to the Boolberry GUI (clearly a necessary step with any accessible UI). We specifically chose not to do that for the 0.8.8 release. If you are struggling with the high barrier to entry feel free to PM me and I'll walk you through installing Boost, ok?
1118  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Darkcoin newest announcement with 100% price rise afterwards in just a few hours on: August 19, 2014, 09:45:56 PM
Darkcoin's rise over the past several hours is certainly meteoric, but all altcoins are recovering and so it is neither unique nor particularly special. The value you'll want to look at is the "30 day" change % on the right of this chart (in which Darkcoin is still the second biggest loss), since it is safe to say that "success" is at the very least a measure over time and not over 24 hours:

Sing Darkcoin's praises, but please apply fact and logic to the discussion.
1119  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ducknote vs monero - what does the future hold? on: August 19, 2014, 09:39:01 PM

Ah - the Bytecoin shills have moved on to duckNote. My sincerest condolences to any actual people involved in duckNote.
1120  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: August 19, 2014, 08:29:42 PM
I suggest we give him some space to fix it, and move on to actual issues of substance.

Fair enough. In that case, "Wild Keccak" doesn't provide sufficient substance over alternative algorithms to be worthy of much consideration, in-my-most-humblest-of-opinions-without-offending-Michael.
