Do you have already a working sunfish? Is there a client already tailored for windows?
Thanks

Sunfish: https://siafiles.com/#/

I'm not sure what you mean by a client tailored to windows... for Sia or for Sunfish?

Hi Taek,

I understand that Siacoin is on beta version where your team are working hard these days to get it into production.

I just would like to ask any approx date, we will see sia officially released. I don't mean a specific date. I rough estimate (this year, first half or second half of next year, etc)

Hard to guess. I imagine that by Jan 2016 we'll be ~stable for long term use, but still beta. Perhaps by June 2016 we'll release an actual 1.0. Depends on how many features we add before deciding that it's complete enough.

I'm sorry if this question has already been asked, but I can't seem to find the answer.  How does one trade BTC for SIAFunds and vice versa?

Head over to the Sia Trading Thread.

Perhaps someone there is willing to sell you directly. If I had any, though, I would definitely not sell :-)

Now I open my Sia Wallet on my laptop, and the address I created and tried to send is gone.

Did I lose my SC? Did I send to a black hole? That kinda sucks....

Looks like the transfer just didn't confirm. Note with the current low hash rates, blocks are mined very slow, about 1 every few hours. So, it might take that long, or longer, for your transaction to confirm.

If you don't have both nodes running all the time then you need to wait for a block confirmation before the balance shows up. I suspect you just didn't give it enough time, block rate is really slow right now because miners keep coin-hopping.

What exactly does that mean? Doesn't at least one block need to be mined before the transaction is registered on the receiving end?

OK, but the wallet I created and sent those funds to disappeared from my desktop client. The whole client looks as though everything disappeared, and and the wallet is re-syncing from the beginning. So it looks like my funds are gone. Is there a way to retrieve this?

The explorer says that the coins are still in the address you sent them to. How did you get that address? And what version was the wallet? If you got the address from a 0.4.x wallet I can help you get the coins back. It'll be in your backup file, but you might have to do more than load it. (you may need to create a bunch of addresses - like 100 or so - and then restart 'siad' before the balance appears. We're working on making that unnecessary in future versions)

The nodes will do 0-confirmation transactions, they'll show up as 'pending' in the 0.4.x UI.

Thanks Taek. Sia seems an interesting and very promising product.
Will be waiting for the release of version 1.0

There is no reason to wait for version 1.0.

Sia is already an interesting and useful protocol. You can already upload files to the Sia network, with the knowledge your files are encrypted and stored redundantly across multiple hosts. The price for this service is currently much cheaper that most, if not all, other storage providers.

In fact, I'd say now is the best time to get in. The Siacoin (SC) used to pay for storage on the Sia network is currently also very, very cheap.

The protocol and client are both still fairly unstable. Great if you are comfortable with bugs, and with the chance of losing money and files because of early-stage instability.

Things get better every iteration, but there is still a lot that could be improved. But it's definitely worth trying out with trivial money and with files you've got backed up in places other than Sia.

Right now we're using 2 data pieces with 10 parity pieces. That's a redundancy of 6. By November we're looking at switching to 3 data pieces with 12 parity pieces, for a redundancy of 5. We'll keep raising the numbers and reducing redundancy as the host churn drops.

Ok, that makes sense. Running simulations on our Test Group B data. Will plug that in.

Announcing PHP-Sia
GitHub: https://github.com/pmknutsen/PHP-Sia

PHP-Sia provides a library of methods for PHP developers to communicate with Sia.

This library will be expanded as I work on this for my own projects. I'm currently implementing an accounts system, for tracking address balances and payments.

For now, the library supports:
  • sending funds
  • creating addresses
  • uploading/sharing/downloading files
  • and more

Note that PHP-Sia uses some API calls that are deprecated as of Sia 0.4.2. I'll keep maintaining the code to keep up with new Sia releases.
