If you say India deserves the world cup, that will be wrong. India proved themselves as poor team. They weren't able to score good by middle order in any of their game, other than the one vs NZ which was also not impressive. Jadeja doesn't fall into middle order as well, he player at lower order. So, as a team, India failed in all of their matches to perform a world cup deserving.

Hilarious. The team on top of the league standings does not deserve the World Cup? Lol. India deserved the World Cup just as much as any other team out there. 45 minutes of poor Cricket does not sum up their overall performance.

England were the best performers followed by India, Australia and New Zealand in my opinion. They have been the strongest subcontinent team for sometime now and they will most likely return with a roar.

I have to agree with @Haunebu despite a poor performance by Indian middle order. India was a solid contender that's why they topped the point table, its not an easy feat. One bad day and you are out of World Cup race. Here I like IPL playoff format. Please check it out it makes more sense when the World Cup is at stake.

Earlier there used to be the two conventional semi-finals just after the group stage, this meant that all the 4 teams had equal chances of making it to the final. The tremendous tournament until the group stage wouldn’t matter, as one loss in the semi-final would bring down curtains to their campaign.

The concept of playoffs brought an extra game before the final. This meant that 3 games would be played before the finalists are decided. First, a semifinal game would be played between the number 1 and number 2 teams. The winner of the two games would go straight into the final. The loser though would not be out of contention.

Next, an eliminator game would be played between the number 3 and number 4 teams. The loser will get knocked out of the tournament. The winner would go on to play in the second qualifier against the losing team of the first qualifier. Now the winner of this game would qualify for the final.

By the way, I am just curious to discuss about Ben Stokes innings in the final match. He had a dashing world cup. Not many player can play an inning like that. His inning had a good combination of luck and skills. Fortune favored the brave.

Do you know Stokes innings is ever highest for England in a world cup final? The previous highest was 63, can't remember the exact name of that player. He played an excellent innings by the way.

It was Ben strokes who ensured that England reached the super over or stand a chance to win the World cup because his innings came at a very crucial time and that too under lot of pressure of the world cup final. He deserves a lot of credit for his batting

I totally agree with you. I am still amazed to see ICC following archaic traditions when leagues like the IPL are adopting much better systems in order to provide improve fairness across the board.

This is why I appreciate sports like NBA and FIFA where the teams which win more points or the teams which win best of 5 rounds etc are judged final winners. The ICC needs to adopt similar formats in the future and improve the current archaic Cricket format.

The IPL format really makes sense. Top 2 team mist be given a 2nd chance to play. In league type matches, IPL elimination system would be a great edition. In that case, India and Australia could have another chance to make it.

This format seems very fair. Any team can have a bad day, so does a top team. So if they fail in the Qualifier 1 match then they get another chance in Qualifier 2 match.

If that happened then we might see different team were playing in the final. However we may not see an epic final that never happened in cricket history. Everything has its cause.

ICC suspends Zimbabwe Cricket with immediate effect

Following a board and full council meeting in London, ICC has suspended Zimbabwe Cricket with immediate effect. In an official release, the apex body stated that 'the ICC Board unanimously decided that Zimbabwe Cricket, an ICC Full Member, is in breach of Article 2.4 (c) and (d) of the ICC Constitution which imposes an obligation on Members to provide a process for free and democratic elections and to ensure that there is no government interference in its governance and/or administration for cricket respectively."

"We do not take the decision to suspend a Member lightly, but we must keep our sport free from political interference. What has happened in Zimbabwe is a serious breach of the ICC Constitution and we cannot allow it to continue unchecked," ICC chairman Shashank Manohar said.

The ICC also confirmed that all ICC funding to ZC will be frozen and representative teams from Zimbabwe will not participate in any ICC events.

Although I feel bad about the Zimbabwe cricketers, I support the decision by the ICC. Zimbabwe no longer deserves the test status and $50 million per year funding by the ICC (Afghanistan and Ireland receives only a fraction of that amount). The basic problem with Zimbabwe is not politics. The real problem is the lack of interest in cricket from the native black population. The white population has gone down from 250,000 to 30,000 in two decades and they can no longer rely on this rapidly shrinking pool for player selection. It's sad, but Zimbabwe is going the same route as Kenya. Rather than wasting the funds on Zimbabwe, the ICC should use it in countries where cricket is popular (Nepal, Papua New Guinea.etc).

Well. Well. Well.  My respect for this man has increased greatly after reading this. Thank you for echoing the views of majority of the Cricketing fraternity Mr.Morgan. Only a fool would want perhaps the greatest match in Cricket history to end in such an unfair manner.

As always, I am not expecting pathetic ICC to improve the rules. Williamson and Eoin Morgan are gems indeed. 2019 World Cup champion : England + NZ!

Considering their bowling unit I would rather say it's an average performance in the World Cup. Bangladesh has some advantage like some experience players. They have not won a series against SL, will they win this time? Don't expect a lot from them, but still hope for the best. Good luck both of the teams.

Australia lost the match by a big margin against England and India lost the match because of the weather conditions as the pitch was seaming a lot after the rain and still India fought hard till the end. I have a different opinion regarding the match as it was the most thrilling final i have ever seen in my cricketing experience as there was no real winner even after the super over.

We needed to see a new world cup winner and this time we got it. Yes, the luck favored England but they also played solid cricket to win the cup (notice I did not say the match).

It was totally a bad day for New Zealand in the final despite playing good cricket. If you analyze some of the moments then you will see it was completely luck that made England the world champion.

1. The catch that was stepped in on the boundary rope. (Saved Stokes or match was gone there for England)
2. That extra 4 runs by hitting the bat (Stokes bat)
3. Awarding 6 runs for this (number two) instead of 5 runs.
4. No Kiwi player, no one else complained for it at that moment because no one was aware of this rule

Sometimes I wonder about the luck that was it for England or for Stokes? I imagine him some day to get the Knight award from the queen.

  It is all about the performance of the players to win a match as well as India concerned so I don’t think that they have played well. They should work on their team because world cup is not a small thing. England played well so they won, there are so many teams who did effort and all of them were having 50 overs but only best team use to win.

This is an amazing and very mature statement by Eoin Morgan; I'm glad that he gave such a statement. England might be the on-paper winner of the world cup 2019, but people won't forget this final for a long long time and literally, both the captains, Williamson and Morgan, will be remembered as the "winners" of the world cup.

P.S. Eoin Morgan is the third "Irish" man to captain the English team. It's amazing that Ireland produces such great captains. However, it seems like it will no longer be easy for England cricket board to capture good Irish cricketers from now on:
