The Australia v New Zealand match still went ahead but with no fans in the stadium which was a different experience when watching it on TV. I actually found the match a little boring with out the crowd, its just not the same. It must be an experience for the players as well as there is no crowd to get behind the teams. Australia ended up winning the match easily in the end as New Zealand didn't really offer much. It looks like the series will continue even though almost all other sports have been cancelled around the world, even the SA and India ODI series has been cancelled. This could last many months unless the corona virus is under control.

In countries where not enough precautions were taken, the virus has spread at a startling rate. So I would agree with the decision by various cricket boards to cancel bilateral series and other tournaments. For now, the BCCI has postponed the IPL by two weeks. To be honest, I don't think that this is enough. They need to postpone it by at least 6 months, as there is hardly any chance that the situation will get contained in two weeks.

@vella85 I was really surprised to see that the match wasn’t canceled, and in my personal opinion they should have canceled this match first and then the series as players safety is also important. @vishu.reang well we all know that BCCI loves to make money and IPL is it’s biggest event where they’ll earn lots of money so I was not surprised to know that they yet haven’t canceled it, but given how rapidly the virus is spreading maybe they’ll be forced to cancel it in the end.

Most chances now we will not able to have complete season for many games as in Europe most of countries now calculating how to set things as they have no enough time for postponed games just like this IPL is mega event and just postponed is not enough because after six months we have packed cricket England is due in India so this is very bad situation.

Forget about sports for the next to three months. I doubt whether Oympics will also happen. The damm virus has just started spreading to every corner of this earth and most countries are helpless in containing it.

Europe which is far much superior medically to rest of the world is now the new epic center for this virus. Asia has just started, how many more people will die because of this virus god only knows.

Players getting paid is going to be a worry for many sports associations around the world including cricket players. The England Cricket Board is going to have some big problems in coming days and the same with the Australian Cricket Board. Like I have mentioned in other sports threads, the economy is going to play a big part in all sports after this virus is over, that's what we all should be worried about right now as we may see some sports teams never return after this, remember that money runs all the sports around the world and this has taken a big hit for many sports associations so we could see some not return.

I can promote your project on X to my 100k+ followers for a reasonable price. Just DM me for prices.

Well... why should the sports players be given special treatment? Here in India, many of the states have asked the government employees to forfeit one month's salary. With the economy in deathbed, there is no other option. Private companies are laying off excess staff and millions are without a job now. I don't think that cricket players can be immune to all this. They need to forfeit some of their earnings.

But BCCI is not facing any problem as they are one of most richest Cricket Board in world and they have much funds for paying all for some long time without any problem on other hand many Government and Private companies have nothing option like this so they have to do things like this we are also facing many serious troubles as Ramadan and Eid is coming and peoples are worrying about this all kids are also not happy with this all.

I am not sure how this can be done in India. People in my country are given the option to send few days salary to the coronavirus fund and not all of the salary is detected without permission. Since players have an yearly contract, so they will be paid what is in the contract, regardless of whether they have matches to play or not.

Well... I agree with you on the BCCI. As per the official information, only 26% of the revenues in BCCI are distributed towards the players. So what happens to the remaining 74%? A part is being used for building new stadiums and other facilities, but I suspect that the vast majority is being used for "administrative costs". And that is one of the reasons why we have so many businessmen in BCCI board.

As we’re discussing about wages I would like to bring to your attention that many big stars including Ronaldo have had to take a pay cut due to this virus, and I believe that even big cricket stars will be forced to take a pay cut soon. Now this sounds easy on paper but in reality it’s complicated, as the board will have to decide whether there’s a blanket cut for all or not, and further they’ll also have to work with the players to reach a common ground over the pay cut which will take time.

Th players understand this all so they are doing their contribution through pay cut today I was reading that Cricket Australia and Australian Cricketers Association already reach on some agreement about cut in pays and ECB is also going to talk like this in coming days as this year England domestic and International both seasons in limbo.

So where will this deduction in salary goes ?
Whether it will be deposited to any covid-19 relief funds or they will be the savings for the respective cricket boards ?  Also i believe players voluntarily gives their part of salary to gain the fame.

This all happening just because of Boards sack not for helping any covid most of Cricket boards and sports councils facing some serious financial problems so they are asking players and managers for cut in salaries as many soccer clubs already announces and now cricket boards also talking with players and related management.

I really doubt whether the reduction in salary will be used anywhere else. First of all, there is a huge revenue loss for all of the major cricket boards as a result of cancellation and postponement of the tournaments. So there is a sharp decline in the revenue for starters. And this cut in revenue will be reflected in the salaries of the players as well. It's not like the boards are earning good amounts and not passing on the benefits to the players.

Many players have donated amount to relief funds and other charity organization but what transparency we have after that, is it reaching the correct place and till now i am yet to see any transparent NGO on how they are making use of the funds they are collecting.

It is a difficult period for anyone, pay cut will not have a big difference for sports person as they are earning a good amount of money than the average and above average population, when the whole world is taking a big toll then these entertainers can burden some considering that millions of below average people are going through.

Well.. the other boards (including the BCCI) may also follow this, as they don't have any other choice available. But the Australian board will be in big trouble, if they have to cancel the test series against India. Bilateral series against India is huge, and it has the potential to boost the CA coffers by up to $200 million. But if they have to cancel it, then the board will be in serious financial trouble.

@Vishnu.Reang I believe that this series would already be insured so CA should not suffer any losses, but let’s take a hypothetical situation where the series is not insured then they will not use the word cancel, rather they’ll declare that the series is postponed and then they’ll try and schedule it in the coming months or next year. Lastly I don’t think so that CA will be in a financial trouble as they’re a rich board, and will they suffer a financial setback maybe yes but will it effect their normal operations no it won’t.

Like BCCI Australian cricket board have no more options on their hand. Aussie government have already taken strict actions to keep their citizens from Covid19 and hopefully they will take much more precautionary steps to keep their sports person safer. Australian prime minister already suggested all foreign students to go to their home countries for a shorter period if they are unable to maintain their daily costs. So in a situation like this i don't think they are thinking about any cricket tournaments or anything else. On the other India is one of the biggest country with huge population and bad news is covid19 patients are increasing massively on their region. If social and physical transmission keep continues like this than its gonna be really hard for PM modi to control the situation.

Lets hope for the best.
