I would disagree when you say that India is the only feasible market for franchise league.
I agree with you, India does have a big market but there are markets outside that continent too, the majority of the profit comes from broadcasting rights as the IPL make over $3 billion dollars while BBL earns a mere $100 million dollars and that is the case with Natwest T20 Blast as they current get around $100 million and it is a huge different but the ticket sales are good for BBL and i do not have the figures of other franchise leagues but they are conducting those tournament because of the profit they are making.

The BBL of Australia and the Vitality Blast of England is doing pretty well, without much help from India. But that said, India remains the largest market and it will be impossible for any of the other franchise T20 leagues to overtake the Indian Premier League (IPL) in terms of popularity or revenues. My advice to the other leagues is not to compare themselves with the IPL.
Competition is good to make things better but competing against a franchise where they earn a billion dollars for broadcasting rights alone is not the smartest thing to do  Grin.

There is a fact that every country will be looking at the Indian market to attract viewers so that they will have the benefit by getting a much bigger broadcasting rights and may be that is the aspect they will be looking at India other than that there is no way other way franchise will be getting the benefit they are looking for as they are able to sell out stadiums in BBL and England.

Star India (of Rupert Murdoch) paid $2.55 billion for the IPL broadcasting rights, for the five year period of 2018-2022. On the other hand, the broadcasting rights for BBL and Natwest T20 Blast were not sold separately. They were clubbed along with matches of the national side as well as the other domestic tournaments. Sky Sports paid $1.56 billion for these rights in England for 2020-2024, while Channel 7 and Fox Cricket paid $920 million for the same in Australia (6 year period, from 2018-2014).

Now it is difficult to compare the figures, as the IPL rights were sold separately and the other leagues were sold as a part of the package.

The picture is clear, the BCCI was able to sell the national team broadcasting rights and the IPL rights separately and it is really huge, i was not aware of the billions the rest of the countries were able to procure but to get billions of dollars for giving the broadcasting rights is really crazy and how much money they will be making to give out this much amount. I still remember there were no broadcasters to telecast the matches during 80s and now the competition is really high to get the broadcasting rights.

Cricket has become a luxury game and cricket board earns a handsome amount even from the broadcasters. They are earning a lot of money and therefore the players are also being paid with a good amount. Cricket has become a big industry in India after their film industry.

Maxwell has been in very good form playing in the Big Bash League in Australia and yet he was left out of the Australian team for the upcoming ODI series against India. I never understand why a player like Maxwell is left out of the team, he should be a starter in every match with the way he plays. Anyway I hope he gets a game when Australia return home to play New Zealand in a ODI and T20 series.

I can promote your project on X to my 100k+ followers for a reasonable price. Just DM me for prices.

The T20 leagues made the difference. $2.55 billion for IPL for the 2018-22 period means $550 million per year.

BBL may be around 40% of the revenues for CA, and we can assume $368 million for the tournament, for 6 years. This will come to somewhere around $61 million per year for BBL.

I am not sure whether the Natwest T20 Blast is more profitable than the BBL or not. BBL is more popular, but the Australian population is less than 1/3rd that of England. So the revenues from the Natwest T20 Blast may be more.

Somewhere I read that the North American market (US/Canada) remains an important revenue source for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). However, apart from the IPL, none of the other franchise cricket leagues have managed to penetrate this market. Even for the IPL, the revenues from North America are negligible. Until they are able to penetrate in to markets such as US and China, each one of these leagues will remain heavily dependent on India.

I did not knew that England got a $1.56 billion deal to broadcast the matches and if that is the case it is a really great deal as the board never got that much amount historically as far as i know and the BCCI is showing the rest of the cricket boards on how to make money which is really great but the doubt with these billion dollar deals is that whether these price will come down on the end user as we need to purchase these events and the prices are increasing too.

Sports channels in India are no longer cheap. If you want to subscribe to the entire Star Sports bouquet, then it can cost you somewhere around $24 per year. Add in Sony/ESPN and that becomes $36 per year. If 100 million households in India are subscribed to these two packages, then it means $3.6 billion in revenues per year, just from the Indian market.

It is true that the high bidding broadcasting rights will end up in the head of the consumers, they will be making the amount of money from the users and then the billions they will be earning during the matches with advertisement revenue and since it is a huge consumer market all the corporate giants and using the cricket matches to advertise their products and that is how they are getting their benefits and everything is on the end consumer and there was a time when i used to watch as the broadcasters used to cut for advertisement just as the last ball is delivered in an over without giving you the opportunity to watch the entire sequence which was really irritating.

They are charging a lot for subscription to these channels and then earning even more by showing advertisements. The government tried to limit their greed by fixing a maximum limit on the subscription fee per channel. But then these guys increased the number of channels and spread out the matches in all the channels. Star Sports is having close to two dozen channels in India and ESPN/Sony is not far behind. If you subscribe to all these channels, then the monthly fee would be greater than the subscription cost for your broadband service.

Won by 10 wickets with more than 12 overs to spare!!!

The Australian team landed in India just a couple of days back. They had hardly anytime to get themselves acclimatized. Even after all this, they managed to defeat the no.2 side (as per the ICC ODI rankings) by such a big margin. You can love them, or hate them. But you need to admit that the Australians are the most professional of all the cricketing sides.

This would have to be one of the best performances by an Australian team I have seen playing in India. That was a dominate win on Indian soil and to win by 10 wickets is amazing as not many teams will be able to achieve this playing in India. Like I have said many times before this Australian team is now well balanced and can take on any team and beat them where ever they play. Its starting to look like this team can be the team like the Australian team in the 90's early 2000's.

I can promote your project on X to my 100k+ followers for a reasonable price. Just DM me for prices.

Agreed, the team looks strong and in balance. If you look upon each players contribution there'll be something from their part. Indian players too have the same, but at instance every player can't be believed to contribute according to the match situation. The performance against Australia is very bad, with more than 250 runs unable to take a single wicket is a.shame to the Indian Cricket team. Somehow this series is already reserved for Australia.

Australia was expected to win this series because Warner and Smith were playing for them, and honestly I didn’t expect Finch would join in the party and hammer Indian bowlers. @vella85 most of these Australian players play regularly in IPL and they know exactly what conditions in India are like, hence I was not surprised they played so well and comfortably won the game.

They went through a lot of turmoil during the period when David Warner and Steve Smith were suspended. It was during this period that they lost the home series to India. But their fortunes immediately changed once Smith and Warner came back to the side. The Ashes series win in 2019 was a major morale booster for the Australian side. Right now all of their batsmen are in top form (Steve Smith, David Warner, Aaron Finch, Marnus Labuschange.etc) and the same can be said about their bowlers as well (Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc.etc).

Yeah that was a good comeback by the Australian team. I felt that the Indian team were over confidant after winning few matches beginning of the year, they underestimated team Australia resulting in a defeat.

Today they are both playing the second ODI, like last match today also Australia has won the toss and is bowling first. Rohit Sharma is out. What do you think will happens today. Will Australia win again ?

Cant deny the chances of Aussies winning another match after the performance of them in the previous match. Indian batsmen playing carefully in this match and hopefully they will make a more than 300 in this match.
