There's a T20 series coming up between India and WI and I just checked the players list and noticed Gayle is not in the team. He said he would retire from ODIs after the WC but did he retire from T20 also?

Back to the Gayle thing, I do not know any update available about his retirement but it's very much predictable that he will retire from ODIs if he can not perform well but for T20s - he is still non-replaceable I think and Gayle should carry on to it.

Last what I have heard was that Gayle will retire after this series and might even retire from all forms of cricket. Also he is now 39 and he is not able to perform the way he used to bat couple of years before. So better to exit then not to be picked by the team.

Gayle is close to 40 and it is not his sole responsibility to rescue the Windies team. The other members should also rise to the occasion, if they want to retain their former glory. You can't even blame Gayle as un-patriotic. West Indies is not a single nation. It is a combined team of more than a dozen smaller countries. So it is not surprising that there is a lack of team bonding.

Gayle is in poor form these days and he will not bring any much good for the team if you think WI is not a good team. Would be a nice series if both team played away series. India will have the benefit of home. Otherwise, in t20, West Indies still a big team.

This is still ridiculous - Chris Gayle should be way more respectable towards the team (and name) through which he built his career and reputation around the globe. Moreover, the West Indies cricket board should forcefully retire him from the international cricket if he's not willing to provide his services for his original team for some other stupid T20 leagues.

West Indies spend less on cricket, player didn't get paid for a couple of months years ago. They still have some god talents but there's no good mentor.

This is true. A single player like Russell or Gayle can make a huge difference in a T-20 tournament, but the manner in which they lost in the World Cup would have crushed their morale and we need to see if they can bounce back or not.

I think that not the right way. A player can play according to their will. Denying to play for the national team does not mean that they can not continue in other international leagues. A player is free to sign up with any team/league.

We have seen AB as an example. The same with football to I think.

The extra pressure for India is to maintain their standard and perform according to the expectation. This is a huge disadvantage for India. If they can not handle the pressure then they will suffer and if they perform bad in the opening match then game on for West Indies.

This is true. If West Indies actually win this tournament, I would be genuinely surprised considering the manner in which they played in the World Cup.

Also, will you be starting another pool for the upcoming Ashes and India vs West Indies tournaments Royse? Fun is the priority and I have enjoyed playing in the IPL and World Cup pools recently.

No sure bud. I think it's only few matches between only two teams to predict win-lose only. A pool like this kind is better when there are more teams like we have seen in IPL and World cup kind of tournament. If anyone has any idea then feel free to propose or start. I will give my full support. I am looking forward to the next big tournament, possibly T20 world cup, champions league, next IPL which are popular for all nations.

Merging several tournaments like the Ashes and the India-West Indies ODI tournament etc could lead to a bigger pool in this case. Am not sure if you can do that since I never dealt with creating pools before.

Will check out the threads that you mentioned asap. Good to see more and more Cricket related threads popping up. Self-moderating them is another plus point.

I think it's better to maintain this thread only other than any special tournament since this thread is the oldest one. Otherwise, it will look spammy since people will bump each thread regularly which will sometimes be part of spam also.

Considering the T20 team, WI have some strong batting line up once Andre Russell is back. IN T20 WI are the champions only thing is that they lack consistency and not as a unit the team plays. Else it can easily beat some of the best teams.

In the shorter format of the game anyone who has some strong hitters could change the course of the game at any moment, West Indies have some big hitters in their ranks who could change the match in a short period of time. You cannot expect consistency with power hitters and the T20 format is tailor made for power hitters who could smack the ball from the first ball and there are not many players who can do that. I wonder what Bradman could do if they were to play the T20 version of cricket  .

Well, in the case of AB, South African cricket board did the right thing by NOT selecting him for the world cup (even though I believe that he'd have proved to be great for the team during the world cup if he had played). But anyway, I don't think that we can agree on whether it's right for cricketers to play for leagues when they should be playing for their own country or not, because we've got a difference of opinion in this regard.
