I don't want to get over confident however its looking like the corona virus cases world wide are starting to slow down which is good to see however I still think it will take another month before we get a clear idea on how well its looking. Then we could see some sporting events start back up so the French Open is looking likely at the moment but again I don't want to get ahead because it could all change very quickly.

I hope so mate, however, there are still new cases popping out everyday here, although there are also people recovering, but more cases have been reported and we still have a lock down up to the end of this month. Just last night, our President is seriously considering Martial Law just to impose those lock downs because there are still a lot of undisciplined people who doesn't follow the protocols so that everyone should be safe and the infections can be controlled. Of course, I'm still hoping that we can see sporting events this year not just tennis, but it seems the chance are slim at this point.

Yeah just when it is looking good, things can change very quickly. Here in Australia we have been able to control the out break however winter is coming so we could see more cases pop up. I think we could see some tennis played but of course with no crowds, the US is now hopefully over the peak and that we could see the US open later this year. Stay safe my friend and lets hope that it doesn't come to martial law for your country.

@vella85 you’re correct as this coronavirus situation is really unpredictable because when we thought that China had completely recovered from it’s clutches it’s now been reported that more cases are popping up. @Kemarit while I’m not a huge fan of the martial law, but for what’s it worth I feel your government should impose it even though it’ll be painful in the short term, but in the long term you’ll will be thankful because you’ll survived due to the strict laws in place. Lastly I hope that due to the strict social distancing measures in place we get see some major tournaments in the second half of the year.

The sentence winter is coming can be scary specially in Australia since we know the winter can increase the outbreak much more than today.
My only hope is the weather gets warmer so the outbreak will be slower and finally we can be able to watch the matches once again.

Well hopefully the warmer weather will help control the virus in the Northern Hemisphere which gives us some hope to see some tennis being played later this year and maybe even a couple of Grand Slams played as we already know that Wimbledon won't go ahead but we just never know if the virus does start to slow and becomes under control we may see them change their minds on this decision.

@Juggy777

I agree mate, it seems that China have come out too early but the thing is no one knows when this will ever end.

Thanks mate, yes, I'm a high risk person, I'm a diabetic (Type II) so I'm taking every precautions. You should also take care there, a coming winter could trigger a lot of flu like symptoms that could lead to the novel corona virus. US though is still on it's peak, everyday, new cases have been reported, so it's very bleak for now to see tennis being played in the States.

If we will able to stay home with safety then surely we have many years for watching tennis in courts and on television right now best option is avoid these all things and take care of yourself as its still very dangerous in many countries even lock down is very stick few countries facing some other troubles as well like many peoples living under poverty and now they are also in serious trouble of food as well but its really bad situation in all world.

i think that we will miss most of this season, and probably start again from next season in Australia, because it is not expected to have tournaments with audience this year, and any tournaments before September, so then will be too late for a lot of tournaments, although RG has plans to postpone tournament for October, but it depend on crisis development

I understand mate, we all need to be careful when we have health risks with this virus, please be safe my friend. Yeah this up coming winter does worry me a lot more this year due to the virus but I have taken all the necessary precautions to hopefully keep me healthy.

Its looking like some countries in Europe will soon start to open up again and the US also wants to open up but I still think it is a risk however we could see some tennis played with no crowds and maybe have games played indoors. Just when it looks good we see a massive spike in cases around the world, I know we keep talking about this because we want to see some tennis being played but again it looks like its going to take some more time.

Yes mate, we need to take every measures not to get infected and I'm following every rule in the book, like staying indoors and not getting out.

But most European countries are closing their borders: (https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-european-borders-closed-in-response-to-covid-19-2020-4#anyone-attempting-to-cross-the-bridge-is-met-by-a-polish-border-guard-in-full-personal-protective-equipment-armed-with-a-thermometer-15).

So I think that will not be an option as well. And the bad thing is that there are news that probably there could be more people who are really infected but so far remain asymptomatic so it could be worst than everyone as expecting and there could be like second wave of spikes if those person became sick because of the virus.

There are no options left for tennis though, we I will say that I will shot all your ideas for now. There are no safe place to play tennis with crowded fans. Yes, they can do without any fans, but I think players themselves will not thrive on this environments. Specially those who love seeing people cheering in the corner, it somewhat boost their confidence to win, just saying.

That is true my friend, the news seems to be mixed with all different stories now days, its hard to get the right facts about what's really going on.

I was thinking that maybe the ATP could do something like eTennis like what some other sports are doing, I know its not the same as seeing the real thing being played however this is becoming a big thing with eNascar and some other sports which will start soon.

What do you guys think about this? Could this also work with Tennis?

Well, it could work if Tennis will have this sort of E-games or something. Of course we still prefer the old and traditional way of watching players against each other, but at this time, with the whole Covid-19 lock down, I think they could try and implement this one.

I think it can work for tennis as other sports are going to give it a try. It will be interesting to see as it could also be a way of the future but we will always have actual tennis matches lol. As technology evolves I think we'll see a lot more virtual sports like we already have horse racing and greyhound racing and I've even seen cock fighting so having tennis as one of these sports would be great and maybe we could see some of the greats playing again but in virtual form.

Well, it could work if Tennis will have this sort of E-games or something. Of course we still prefer the old and traditional way of watching players against each other, but at this time, with the whole Covid-19 lock down, I think they could try and implement this one.

In other news though, (https://au.sports.yahoo.com/rafael-nadal-blunders-instagram-live-roger-federer-chat-213759468.html),  Grin

He may have 19 Grand Slam titles, one shy of Federer's all-time men's record, but when it comes to IT skills, he resembled a Sunday morning park hacker crumbling under pressure.

Sure, one of the best, all time greats, but we all know that nobody is perfect.

Yes, even sports needs to adjust to this evolving technology, I'm fond of horse racing as well and have play virtual horse race in a physical casino that I used to play prior the lockdown. and there are a lot of horse racing aficionados who bet on real race and then go to casino to play again.

I agree, although tennis is very old sports, but with the current situation, they have to adapt and hope to see those greats playing against each other again. There could be pros and cons but at least we have a chance to see them again.

Tennis tournaments are relied a lot to the spectators and the tickets.
If there is no way to ensure that people are going to be on the stadium and watch the games then possibly the tournaments such as Roland Garros which is coming soon is going to be postponed.

Not just tennis, every other sports in general, specially football which can fill a 50,000 capacity sit stadium. You can't just say that tennis is the only game that rely on spectators and tickets. And they are going to postpone Roland Garros so be it, tennis can continue next year or when everything has settled or at least the covid-19 pandemic has been controlled. Fans + players + organizers are part of it but the risk is still high today.

I agree that tennis needs the fans paying for tickets to watch the games however there could be huge T.V viewers which can generate a lot of money as well. I know it won't be as much as ticket sales but at least it will be an income if we are able to see tennis played with no crowds. I'm sure more people will watch especially the ones who normally go to watch tennis will have to watch on T.V, so we shall see what they do in the coming months.

I can promote your project on X to my 100k+ followers for a reasonable price. Just DM me for prices.

Australian Open finalist Dominic Thiem will not pay for tennis relief fund during coronavirus shutdown

Quote
Australian Open finalist Dominic Thiem does not believe the top tennis players in the world should help fund lower-ranked professionals struggling financially while the ATP and WTA Tours are suspended because of coronavirus.

Thiem, who has earned more than $37 million during his career, said some players on the lower-tier circuits did not deserve handouts from the sport's top players because of their unprofessional attitude.

What do you guys think of Thiem's statement here? he opposes higher rank players like him to help lower rank just because of their attitude. Well for me, its not about that attitude, if they really need help then why not look at their past and history and says' "Nah, you don't deserved our help, we work out ass off here, and you have attitude problem"

What do you guys think of Thiem's statement here?

Pretty cocky statement and I wouldn't have expected that from him. He comes over as quite a nice and humble guy, but that statement speaks different. $47,000 is like basically nothing for him and he should at least show signals of solidarity or keep his mouth shut entirely. I think he is correct in saying, that there are people way more in need, but ATP is a little family in the end and he should care about it. He can still help non-tennis players in need with the rest of his money Grin

Otoh such a fund won't work anyway I think. These lower-ranked players are too heterogeneous - where to draw the line who gets help and who not ? And even in the Top 50-100, you have very different players, financially speaking. Some are veterans at the end of their career having earned good money, some are youngsters just moving up the rankings, some are journeymen living from prize money to prize money basically. Looking at the rankings, you have someone like Pospisil, who, I guess, could easily afford to give $8000, but someone like Koepfer didn't earn a lot this year and even throughout his career (remember there are taxes, staff to pay, flights, hotels etc.):

Pospisil earnings:

Koepfer earnings:

Source: https://www.atptour.com/en/players/dominik-koepfer/ke73/overview

And even with those lower-ranked players, you have some, that are not really in need just judging by their earnings:

L. Mayer earnings, currently ranked #118:

Why should a guy like Koepfer give money to Mayer, makes no sense. Thiem has a point, that some players don't have the attitude it takes to get to the top, but there are surely players that work even harder than him, but just lack the talent in the end - and these players he is doing wrong with this cocky statement.

I would agree to @tyKiwanuka, wasn't expecting this to come from Thiem, but it seems that he didn't get the whole picture and just try to look at himself, sort of a selfish move from him. Yes, surely he work very hard to be in his current position, and so do as other players in the lower ranking. But with the Covid-19 pandemic, those players can't make money and for all we know, maybe they don't have savings as well. So it will be really good if players like Djokovic, Nadal and Federer extending their hands to help their fellow tennis players. I'm sure Thiem's opinion will not sit with other players, but that's his opinion. Regardless of data or how much lower tennis makes, we are in a crisis and they whole life evolved in tennis so it just makes sense to help them.

Every person/player is independent in his statement and views so same happen in cast of Thiem if he feel not good in this case then surely no one can do any thing in this case but I am very happy as top 3 feel like this and they are doing some good in practically for these players which is more good hopefully this all will be end in very good gesture for lower rank players and they will able to have some good funds for survive and join this all again in future after this crises which killing many on and off the field.
