There is a rumor that Rajon Rondo will become a free agent because he has agreed to a contract buyout with the Grizzlies. It seems that he will return to Los Angeles, considering that the Lakers are going to sign a contract with him on Monday. On the one hand, it's good news for Rondo, and on the other hand, it's probably bad news for Isaiah Thomas. Cheesy

I just read that and was going to comment. I’ve never really like Rondo’s style of play but he’s become a better shooter in his old age. If they can grab him to be a backup for the playoffs at the veteran minimum then I think the Lakers should do it. Anything above the minimum and I’d pass.

I’m also glad they won’t be bringing back Gasol. Thinking he could replace Howard was a foolish mistake I’m glad they rectified.

The Lakers made Gasol unproductive, maybe it's time to let him go so other teams could benefit his talent. He was a champion, he had a big role in the success of the Toronto Raptors, so I'm also disappointed why I did not see the same Mark Gasol on the Lakers.
They're making the Lakers become a champ caliber for the next season and I think that they have to let go of Mark and find another one to fit the position that he's about to leave. There will be other teams where Mark can be good and play at his best so if he's best to fit into Pelicans, well, he's in a good team afterward and with lots of good talents are there. It's just about the chemistry that he'll make together with his possible new teammates once this trade is for real.
By letting Mark Gasol go, they should get some players in return that could help build the goal of the Lakers this coming season. Lebron James would certainly want to add some on his legacy and that is by winning a championship again.

Mark Gasol's value has been declining as well compared to his salary with the Memphis where he gets over $20 million per season.

Quote
It’s only fitting after all these years, Marc Gasol would end up in Los Angeles. The Lakers have officially signed the center — reportedly to a two-year, $5.3 million deal with no player or team options — the team announced on Tuesday,

https://hoopshype.com/player/marc-gasol/salary/
They will for sure and let that leave to LBJ, he knows what he's doing, and probably this time. He'll get a stronger stack than the last season since he's still aiming for the ring into this upcoming regular season. As for the value of Gasol, well, every player gets a decrease due to many factors and that's also usual when they're getting old and didn't performed well for the last season unlike those that have been performing well, they get a balance contract or at least maintain their last contract.

I just remember that before all these 'super teams' happened, almost every star player are well distributed in teams. Currently, most teams in the NBA have been fully stacked with superstar veterans intended to win the championship. The best example are the Nets in which they are also a champion caliber team. If the Lakers can get past them, then I think they could be the next champions in the next season.

They brought back Howard, and now they're bringing back Rajon Rondo. Might as well, bring back McGee. This is going to be the championship reunion roster with extra twist to make it a solid line up.
I guess they have better chemistry with Rondo and Howard in the line up.
We can't trust Westbrook or Melo or the other new guys to blend in immediately with the Lakers system. So, I guess the Lakers management are looking to ease the possible scenario by bringing back these 2 guys.

It's news to me that the Lakers are getting back Rajon Rondo. I don't think that he will play heavy minutes because Westbrook will be the guy to do much of the handling chores, we may like it or not. Melo, Howard, and all the other veterans will just be there giving support because come playoffs, their experience is very much needed. Wonder what's the average age of this current Lakers roster, 36?  Grin

I partially agree with Mel but not on Westbrook. The latter will surely try to adjust right with the Lakers system. We already saw the Westbrook 2.0 last season wherein he cooperate and give way to Bradley Beal as the main scorer. Westbrook will also surely be part of the Lakers starting lineup and I'm expecting good quality minutes will be given to him. I'm giving only a few days and he will catch up soon and form chemistry with his teammates.

If ever either Lebron and AD aren't present, the combination of Westbrook and Melo is already tested back in their OKC days so adjustment shouldn't be a problem to them.

May be they want experience in their side more than the youth. The average age is a bit high for me. Rajon Rondo coming back to Lakers is good I think he will bring that experience in the side and it will only benefit Lakers.

Let's just believe in their new roster.

They won't bring that up if these guys can't add up good value to their roster. There's some reason why they've taken those on boat and removed those players that we used to see play with Lebron.

Yeah, that was last season and we all thought that they're going to take the ring by that season and we're all wrong as there's another team that had taken the ring and they fall short and didn't get into the finals. And there was a team that's very good at the start-up to the mid of the season but also fell short. But still, it will rely on how they're going to play on this season. Hopefully that this caliber roster of Lakers will get what they are wanting to give and as part of it with Melo who also didn't have a good start last season as it's just a last-minute before his past team took him on board.

Javale is with the Phoenix Suns already so I doubt that the Lakers are interested on getting him.

Those two really performed better in their championship run, Rondo proved his experience and same with Dwight. Remember how he put a clamp on Jokic during their playoff series. Yes, it might take time to blend, but since they are experience and veterans already, might take less time to build a chemistry build around Lebron James.

Grin

Last time I checked it's above 32.x something, and being the oldest in the NBA so far.

Rondo also provided a lot during the playoffs when he was in the Clippers. But during the second and in their last playoff series against the Suns, he was used sparingly. And maybe that's one reason why he wanted out of the Clippers and missed the Lakers.

He could be coming from the bench as well and not a starting five for the guard position because Westbrook is the first option. But the depth though of the Lakers, even if they rest some of their starting five, the next group could pass as starting five for the other teams already.

After your posts I went digging a bit more about Rondo.
The buyout agreement between Rondo and Memphis Grizzlies is now official. Nothing unexpected, as rumors of his early departure from Tennessee have been circulating for several days. The player was clearly not in the plans of the team coached by Jenkins.
He's a free agent now and able to make agreements with other teams. IMO, the Los Angeles Lakers are the closest to sign him, ready to add to their roster a former player familiar with the 2020 NBA title, in which Rondo played a key role.

He has no problem with Lebron, in fact, he is a big help for the Lakers as when Lebron is down, Rondo could always lead the PG position to still make the team competitive. I know they have Westbrook now, but in terms of basketball IQ, I still see Rondo is smarter as he played all around especially in defense.

I can't wait to read news on injury from several Laker players by first half of the season Grin I'm also expecting heavy injuries on the Nets with players on similar age range. There will be more complaining about how tight the schedules are again.

Carmelo Anthony is the oldest at 37 years old, but I think though the average age of the entire roster is at least 30, I think they are still fit to play and they have the experience. If they are good at managing their roster, then we might not see a serious injury of this team next season.

They have a lot of veterans and the 2nd unit is a strong team, so there's no need to force the starting 5 heavy minutes just to win.

I don't we don't hear that as it's very unfair for the other teams.

Lebron acknowledges Rondo as one of those who really help them win his first ring with the Lakers. Perhaps it was with heavy heart that they have to let him go and several others after getting the championship and now they are bringing them back like Rondo and Howard plus others.

And it also proves that you don't dismantle your team after winning because there is no momentum in the chemistry. Just look at the Bucks, the core team is still there only a couple of names have move out, like P.J. Tucker.

Those two really performed better in their championship run, Rondo proved his experience and same with Dwight. Remember how he put a clamp on Jokic during their playoff series. Yes, it might take time to blend, but since they are experience and veterans already, might take less time to build a chemistry build around Lebron James.

Yes, i remember that. Howard was a good Center both offensively and defensively in the 2nd unit. I'm not sure If he'll be in the starting line up this year.
Same goes for Rondo, he was so vital to the Lakers system from both ends of the floor. I was actually sad to hear when most of the Lakers championship team left and got traded. They could've reached the 2021 Finals If they have retained the same roster.

Not counting him offensively anymore because it's not his focus now, his focus is just to destroy the rhythm o the opponent with his very physical defense, he has done that with the 76ers and sometimes I see him as a dirty player so I think he would only be vital but not getting a lot of minutes.

Agree, if Lakers kept that same roster they can still have the same winning game while Davis and LeBron still resting.

The chemistry between all those players is already synchronized, with McGee and Howard, together with Kuzma Rondo KCP and Caruso
are good enough to maintain their good standing, unlike with how those new players did when there's no LeBron and Davis inside.
