Winzip, Winrar, and Windows native extractor all consider a slightly different subset of supported file specifications as "standard". Its an age-old nightmare that has plagued windows based compression tools for decades. Best practice for the creation of compressed archives is to avoid creation using these spin-off programs and instead use a basic CLI utility. On linux this process is very easy as GNU compression utilities are fairly standard AND conservative in their file specs. |
