actual number of people using Bitcoin?

It's totally impossible to count the total user of bitcoin.
In one way bitcoin is anonymous and in another way in bitcoin world hardly few user usages real info for creating bitcoin wallet. And 1 user usage 1 to 2 or more wallet so it's quite unpredictable to figure out the exact number of bitcoin user. If one want to know then he might have to conduct world wide census.

even with consensus or survey can't give you the right number of people using bitcoin because there's still a big chance you will get the wrong answer,and there's always someone who hiding and keep silence so it's not a good solution  i guess, i'm still in my opinion that counting the actual number of people using bitcoin is impossible

yap this is the difficult things to knows because it is very easy to get a bitcoin address so no one will ever know how many are actually using bitcoin.

I would consider as active users those who are using Bitcoin (sending or receiving bitcoins) on at least a weekly basis

In this way, the upper limit of active users could still be reasonably well approximated. If the number of transactions per day equals 400-450k tpd (as determined by the Blockchain stats), it is possible to find out the number of unique addresses used throughout a week. Since the number of those who make offline transactions should be negligible, the result thus obtained should represent the upper limit of the number of active Bitcoin users with a high degree of confidence. Anyone want to find out that figure?

If we know the number of transactions per day I think we can estimate roughly the number of Bitcoin users. First, we should take into account that not every single transaction is made by a unique user. Second, we should be aware of the fact that not all the active users are making transactions every day.

So if the number of transactions per day equals 400-450k I think this means around 100k unique users who were making transactions in that particular day. Now I think that only 1% of all users are involved in transaction activity every particular day, which makes the total number to be equal to around 10 million.

I repeat this was a very rough estimation and the real number might be anything between 3 million and 20 million IMO.

This is not an estimation (however rough), this is a wild guess at its best. First, how do you know that 400-450k transactions daily are made up by 100k unique users? You don't know that for certain. Second, how do you know that only "1% of all users are involved in transaction activity every particular day"? You can't know that with any degree of certainty, either. And then you try to make an "estimation" based on these two guesses...

I could just as well say that the real number of Bitcoin users might be anything between 100k and 100M

It is hard to determine the exact the total users of bitcoin. Here in our country, not all people know what bitcoin, some even cant use a computer properly and others just know to play not to use. I know some that use bitcoins and i can count them with my hands. But it really makes me curious.

we could potentially double the number of users.

The same supply with twice the demand would (eventually) double the price.
If this is true, a price of $1000-2000 actually seems reasonable.

Not just gambling, the people who have interest in trading bitcoin is pretty much too. I am agree that 1 million is still too low to bitcoin being international crypto currency. How did you know that we are nearly millions here in our forum? it is hard to know if we are nearly millions because many members here are using alternative accounts. so we can not know the exact members here in our forum. but we can speculate who are using bitcoin since bitcoin still not so popular i think we are nearly millions.. because many companies and sites right now are accepting bitcoin as payment and brazil also have many stores locally that accepting bitcoin that can attract more people to use bitcoins.

I just made a thread about Bitcoin been accepted as a deposit method on gaming site NetBet. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1655461.0 This is a proper online gaming site with all the top name slots, games, poker, sports betting etc etc. It sure helps to get Bitcoin noticed and i am sure other online gaming sites will take note if Bitcoin becomes a good source of deposit method for NetBet. Well my opinion and estimation would be from 1 million - 2 million only. And upon for being a young crypto currency I would say that it is already a victory for 78 years. And for sure within the next years this is going to make the population of bitcoin increase as the price of bitcoin is increasing this will make the people use bitcoin.

Yeah it can be in millions for sure but can't come to a exact figure as we don't have any track record to know what the reality is but its a fact that users of bitcoins are increasing now.

Your numbers obviously don't add up with available statistics. 1,000 transactions per second would make 1000x86400 = ~86M transactions daily. While in reality the number is only around 250k transactions per day, which is about 350 times less than your number. I'm curious, where did you get that figure (minimum of 1,000 tps) from?

Another factor why I think it is almost impossible to count the number of people using bitcoins is because there are people who use exchange as a wallet and hence almost 100-200 addresses are being used by a single person and even more.I think though more than 20 lakh people are surely using bitcoins.

And for sure within the next years this is going to make the population of bitcoin increase as the price of bitcoin is increasing this will make the people use bitcoin.

It was a joke, there's only 7 billion people on the whole fucking planet.

There's less than 250 thousand Bitcoin transactions a day and that includes regular mining pool payments to pool users. There's no fucking way there is even a million regular Bitcoin users.

I can't remember the last time one day passed that I didn't use my debit card. I also can't remember the last time I made a Bitcoin transaction to buy something.
