Why would ethtards want pos where the whales get richer? It makes no sense, it reminds me of gawtards
I don't think they understand that mining will end.  They will either come to us and mine ETC when ETH goes to PoS or,
they will sell their GPUs and stake the cash back into ETH.

The people who buy those second hand GPUs will then be looking to mine a PoW coin i.e.ETC.  Cutting off PoW just means other coins get the hashpower.

This will be interesting to see how it all plays out.   Cheesy
I think we should change the name from Etherium Classic it would have to be good.
How about something like
"Genesis"
gen·e·sis  (jĕn′ĭ-sĭs)
n. pl. gen·e·ses (-sēz′)
1. The coming into being of something; the origin. See Synonyms at beginning.

I think if we are always known as ether classic it sounds to much like a cheap knock off.. There is already so much of that in crypto. Bitcoin script ect ect.. Just a thought

ethereal ?

Prices go up, prices go down.  It's still early days.  I just don't get the excitement, gutters, fight-or-flight, or what ever you call it like i used to.  Just had to grab a few at 3.8mbtc though. Bitcoin takes for ages.  Anyhow....

One thing i have not heard people talking about is DAG size.  If we go to a Hybrid PoW/PoS and defuse the difficulty bomb at the same time, are we going to do something with the DAG?   You can mine Expanse (Ethash) with a 1GB GPU as far as i understand.  You need a minimum of 2GB GPU to mine Eth and Etc.  But the DAG file is growing up over 1.5GB.  Later this year 2GB GPUs will be no good on the current chain.  Do we just lose those smaller cards?

Imagine how much it would hurt the big mining farms with 2gb gpu.  Grin  Grin

Suddenly they have 100s and 100s of useless gpus

The newer, more power efficient cards have 4 or 8GB memory now as standard anyway. Good for a while yet. Even the 3GB Radeon cards have a good bit of life left in them.

I think there are lots of 2 GB cards out there. I have a bunch of 2GB cards so like the big farms I will mine feathercoin, it's been around for a while and is very stable,... its not on poloniex though.  It's run by ex Oxford University Professors.  They just lack the business ability.  Do not under estimate nanoscrypt.  It will have it's day.

http://blocks.elaineou.com our block explorer is working again by the way but, when I search my wallet address I look rich.  There is no decimal point in the balance.  Anyone else experience this?

seriously if that did not happen, game would have been way more different. but alas.

i dont even know if i should rebuy lower or just close the chapter.

heard the hacker will be in possession of his funds in a few hours and God knows what is his plans

I still like Genesis as a new name, I think we need something without any reference to ether.. I think it would be better for new investors so there is no confusion.
We can still tell people its basically the exact same thing except cheaper and better.  Smiley

I think it should have Ethereum in the name because it is Ethereum. Abandoning the name would be a mistake, you'd undermine the entire mission behind this project and walk away from a billion dollar brand that's second in line to bitcoin.  I think it should remain as is.

I see your point and I am just thinking out loud... Right now we have 2 Ethereum's The HF and the Classic. The one right now that is second in line to BTC is the HF Ethereum. I am thinking if I am a new investor that does not know about all this drama and wants to invest he sees HF and Classic. He would be like whats up with this?? Which one do I use?  blah blah looks unprofessional.. I don't know what the best thing to do but I don't want to see classic get slowly crushed by the HF.

We are not there yet but to get Classic up and going like HF already is will take some time to get organized. During this time everyone will just keep pounding heads saying that classic is dying and stay away from it.

I am not thinking it should be done now and hopefully never but if things get bad enough it might be best to re-brand the original but still keep all the same tools that HF uses. Let's hope it does not come to that. Time will tell.. If enough miners bail out then you can bet they will try the 51 percent attack again. The most important thing is we must keep people on board and interested. What ever it takes.

I imagine the 2gb cards will just have to be sold or re-purposed on other algo's.  It is my understanding that due to the memory intensive dag and algo it makes it harder for the ASIC's to come in and run the show.

There were some comments made eariler about making the coin a CPU only coin.  That does have some merits and would make it harder for the ASIC's to come in and wreck things.

If we stay POW this will be a factor because it now would pay for the ASIC development if they know that this is going to be a long term thing.  So I think we have to keep the ASIC threat in the back of our minds as we are planning the next steps.

ETC and ETH are still essentially the same so a name change would just add more confusion. If and when they diverge sufficiently - maybe.

At the moment there is plenty of stuff to clean up as it is. For example both ETH and ETC clients should be able to install side-by-side, meaning folder names have to be changed for ETC. Any occurrences "ETH" in the GUI need to be changed. I think Mist loads something from ethereum.org, maybe that needs to be changed as well. Maybe the wallet needs to have some code to handle replay, at least show a warning.
