DOes anyone know how to fix the error code Error 1603 with amd drivers installing http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/KB1603.aspxI am getting this every time regardless of version number it wont allow me to install drivers. Does anyone have a fix for this. Taken gpu out one machine and worked in this. Put into another and now getting nothing but problems with it. Would this be card been as tho their all 480s or would it be the OS as done everything in regards to what amd support page says and getting nowhere. Hoping someone here can maybe resolve

I had a disastrous day today. I attempted to add a second PSU to my rig along with a RX480. My rig was 3 r9 380x vid cards and a 750w power supply. Well I fried my motherboard. Which led me to having to get a new mobo, and cpu and memory (local fry's no longer carried lower end mobo that I was using).
Well I got everything hooked up, and the rig when only the RX 480 is hooked up runs just fine. I cannot boot into ubuntu when even 1 of the r9 380x's is plugged into the mobo. It just seems to hang.
Does anyone know if a 380x and rx 480 are not compatible? It seems like they use the same drivers. Not sure what is going on here. Do I just need to throw in the towel and ditch the 380x's and get more rx 480s?
Figured out my problem. My risers were fried too. And one of my 380x's. Have 2 380x and rx480 mining now. Have a new r9 Fury arriving Wednesday...

So I have the following
GPU0 67.457 H/s, GPU1 274.215 H/s, GPU2 269.094 H/s
GPU 0 seems to be running at a fraction of what the others are running at. Yet using same settings. Is this driver related ? Becasue gpu 0 is normally running at like gpu 1 and 2 is running however since adding in 3rd card now get gpu running at 67 aposed to mid 200s?

RUN THE 300 SERIES CARDS TOGETHER-- Three 380X cards are enough to break a 750W PSU. The 400 series cards are not so compatible with earlier cards, and require AMD 16+ drivers. In my experience, 300 series cards mine more slowly on AMD 16+ drivers. I have read that 300 and 400 series cards can be mixed on AMD 16+ drivers, but I don't have a rig configured like that. R9 Fury cards mine really well mixed with 200 or 300 series cards, but the RX card should be kept with other RX cards. Sorry to hear about your motherboard, but I would double-triple check it and the CPU before tossing it. BAD RISERS are a very common problem, and enough to prevent booting. --scryptr

I only tried it on Win 10 (maybe ethos too? don't remember...) Was able to run both 300 and 400 series cards together. However ethos and simplemining both recommended only running 400 series together so I can run 16.x drivers so that's what I did. I took the 380 off that rig. Now that rig is only rx 480s.

This is off topic so maybe we should delete from this thread? Well I sell risers on Amazon... I have 6 packs of risers in stock at Amazon now. With free prime shipping. In my opinion, green version 6 are best. Black version 6 were good but the factory started making them in a hurry and we started seeing a lot of defects. Blue version 6 I have no personal experience with but a friend fried one in high temperatures. Same guy that recommended we switch from black to green. Red version 7 appear to be made by the same factory that makes black version 7. You can see similar qualities in the way they are built.

I am getting this crash after a couple of hours of mining (r9 380x is gpu affected) - 2 380x and 1 rx480, running on 16.60 drivers. maybe i need to uninstall those drivers and install 15.12? Hope I can find those drivers online.

Why do we need so many versions? Here in shops I can mainly see blue version 5, which I have all my cards on. As for earlier posts I run 480 and 380 on the same rig - Tonga doesnt benefit much from asm anyway. Edit: DR_TAMFR_DHP 16.6 drivers? I think you need newer, I am on 16.10.3, but claymore recommends 16.12.2. Nicehash recommends 16.11.5.

is the gpu in question the one your monitor is connected to? if yes then check to see if this is this set to: setx GPU_FORCE_64BIT_PTR 1 if yes, change it to 0 doing so fixed it for me.

find the ideal settings for each card individually, test it crash proof for at least 24h.
then put it in a rig along side other cards, maintaining space for proper cooling. ensure cooling is sufficient to surpass the environmental conditions during your 24h test scenario.
if you still crash it's likely a software issue like drivers or windows trickery.
if you are crashing or hanging while running the card individually for testing ideal configuration:
increase voltage which increases heat but makes things stable at higher clocks decrease voltage which decreases heat but makes things unstable at higher than factory clocks due to sensitivity to quality of power signal delivered by gpu decrease intensity which makes the card run cooler and cuts the workload slightly decrease the clocks, gpu vs memory depend on the quality of your cooling solutions clean and repaste your GPU
i do believe most of this has been said before..

Thanks for the tips. I pulled the suspect card from the rig and running another one of same kind for awhile to see if it is specific with this card. i think the card might be bad :-/
