The reason nzhang has to hire a security detail is due to the perception in China that he is raking it in, not necessarily due to the fact.

In our hallway conversation with Yifu after his talk, I believe he mentioned that Batch 2 was a break even to money losing proposition (someone else who was there can confirm).  This was why the price of Batch 3 went up.  SMT lines aren't cheap.
I do not understand.   Why buy an SMT Line if you are not going to make machines anymore?   I thought Generation 2, they were just selling chips?

Maybe they're renting one.

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

They have already started shipping post batch #2 as of 1+ week ago.  ETA batch #3 looks like June I'd say June 15-25th now Sad.

Bah, you posted first Wink

Well all that kind of doubt would vanish if they open the factory to some people from the community, after crowdfund the machine is that a rude thing to ask for?

Congrats. I for one want to see how the Avalon looks like when you hook it up with a computer.

It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Check the wiki...

After 2 months of delay where their customers lost 200+btc per Avalon?

You did not lose them.  You never had them.

As ProfMac, I could insert the obligatory Robert Burns quote here.

I try to be respectful and informed.

Yes. You are right. Bravo. Lost earnings are not lost money. Going from a positive to negative return is normal, Bravo again.

It seems to be cycling on and off and the yellow light goes off.  I think I need to check the firmware.  Slush's pool says 27 GHs.  Not sure if all the modules are firing or if it just takes time for Slush's pool stats to catch up.

In my experience it usually takes time for a pool to give you an accurate hashing rate.

I haven't checked the reference design docs yet, but my empirical understanding is that the yellow light (being on) indicates that the ASICs have no work.  (Specifically, I imagine the controller board is out of work to give them).  If that light is coming on a lot, your machine is going to under-perform.

As for cycling on and off, since the yellow light is coming on, then indeed the unit is slowing down its fans because there's less heat being generated.  That said, when you finally do get the units running smoothly, you should still hear a little cycling of the fans.  Mine rev up and down slightly every couple minutes.

As for solving the dread yellow light, you'll need to figure out why the modules are running out of work.  Either A) the pool isn't giving enough work, or B) the software is glitching and constantly restarting.  Pull up your Cgminer Status and check Elapsed Time in the upper left.  If that is consistently below 30 minutes, then the software is glitching and being restarted.  Let me know if that's the case and I can post more steps to diagnose that.  If Elapsed Time looks good, look at the pool stats to see what's up.  Probably try other pools, check your local network connection, wifi, etc.

In the hallway gathering, I believe he said they lost money on Batch 1 and with Batch 2, it covered their losses and got them over.  Saw two to three people record parts of the hallway conversation, hopefully someone will upload it to youtube.
