> 600 GH oc capabilities? Is that what I picked up from the hints?

You will need some modifications then. The four pcie connectors can deliver 150w x 4 for a total of max 600w. A standard 4pin molex can deliver 132w per atx specifications. If you rely on the rumored 1.4w/GH, that would give your miner a maximum theoretical of 732w/1.4w = 522.85 GH. If you want more, you´re going to have to solder some extra 8pin pcie connectors in there somewhere.

The PCIE 6 pin or 8 pin connector only has 3 current pins.  They both use Molex Minifit Jr connectors rated at 8 amps per pin.  3*8*12 = 288W ea.

The 75W & 150W limits are part of the PCIe standard which no miner is using, the connectors and wiring can handle much much more.  How much really depends on the PSU itself and what it is capable of delivering TO the connector.

What are the additional 2 wires on the 8 pin then?

They connect directly to the ground.  It allows a PCIe compliant device to perform a ground sense to ensure the proper connector has been attached.  All the power on both a 6 pin and 8 pin connector come from the exact same 3 12V pins.

I was just looking at the specs. I'm sure there is some definite practical use-case for this, but my first thought was "And there I thought there was some actual use for them, not just a way to sell more connector types".

Anyways... thanks for the clarification Smiley

Six IDC connecteros are for communication. Extra two will be propably used in hosted datacenter units. Extra savings on controller boards and cables Wink

Under development Modular UPGRADEABLE Miner (MUM). Looking for investors.

What are the additional 2 wires on the 8 pin then?

They connect directly to the ground.  It allows a PCIe compliant device to perform a ground sense to ensure the proper connector has been attached.  All the power on both a 6 pin and 8 pin connector come from the exact same 3 12V pins.

To be accurate the power comes from the difference of potential between the 12V pins and the ground. If you consider what is transmitting power (electrons), they are in fact coming from the ground pins into the device and going out of the device in the 12V pins (electrons are attracted by higher potentials).

What defines the maximum power is the total current supported by the 12V pins and the total current supported by the ground pins. If the minimum of these two is below what you need to power your device, smoke will happen.

As the 2 additional ground pins on a 8-pin PCIe connector are connected to 2 of the 3 other ground pins they don't rise the power available. The 3 existing ground pins and the 3 12V pins having the same properties DeathAndTaxes is right in practice : what matters are what the 3 12V pins can handle.

Birkenstock's and socks... Wow...
lol, glad I wasn't the only one to notice that. Many assembly plants wouldn't let you in the door with sandals on. And not just on grounds of taste!  Grin

The guy with the Adidas at least have some ESD straps attached to the shoes. The guy with the sandals probably have to stay out of the ESD safe zone.

more then eve, I'm now missing members of KNC fanclub. but, we have got history in this thread, so lets remind some smart guys and their funny arguments:

There hasn't been a delay announced and if there is you can resume your ignorant arguments.

Xialla   ...  At first I was upset about your recent comments, but now I realize you are simply mentally or emotionally challenged over KNC's delivery dates, and are taking it out on us. I'm actually proud to be a member of the "KNC fan club"

You have no evidence, at all, that they will be late.

So let's see if they ship in September, and put off all this "liar and cheater" name calling until October some time   According to my calendar this is just September 15th, that leaves them more than two weeks

edit: I'm too lazy read hundreds of pages back and check their bullshits and blindness advocating of KNC. time just show us, who was right.
