I discovered that the LCD fucks things up occasionally and run without for reliability. I read some mutterings about that when I checked to see if the LCD part number happened to be in view anywhere. Did they ever figure out if that was a firmware issue or a hardware issue - and if hardware, whether it was just affecting the controller, or the actual downstream miner? Seems like a peculiar thing to be causing issues.

How can people be so easily fooled?
You have a company that does a pre sale for a hashing device that promise great income and wealth for their customers. Customers flock in by thousands, and pay the company many thousand dollars each to be part of this gold mine rush. Company use all these people`s money to buy their own chips from TSMC and system builders to make these hashing devices. In time the company sits with hashing power that are able to create many million dollars. WHY DELIVER THESE TO THE PEOPLE AND END THE MONEY RAIN? No, they make up silly excuses to upgrade the manufacturing to 20nm node. On a ASIC chip that doesnt use much energy in 28nm, and basically giving up the hashing race where time is crucial to get most money out of a given growing difficulty.
How does this even makes any sense in your head people? If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck.... They made money for themselves out of YOUR money. "Testing", 20nm, manufacturing difficulties, etc, were all excuses to post pone the ending of the cash train.
THINK people.

Yet people did...because greed was bigger than prudence and common sense. This whole pre-order game has always reeked of scam, but well. I had a share in one of the Jupiter's first batches, got ROI and never ordered any ASIC again.

i think you mean lied to - not fooled. its not the same. they didnt fool me at all - yet they lied continually. and their fangirl base of easily pleased maggots reinforced the lies. which also fooled me not.

It also stands to reason that many people will buy into a pre-order of a product when a company says they're going to stick around and continue building out machines. It's reasonable in people's minds because pre-orders usually cost more, as the first batch is the R&D batch with the highest costs. Normally after this, companies will keep that gear in a production lineup, and the purchase cost goes down--while giving customers a chance at a new generation if they wish.
What happened was KNC just kept changing generations. They could've added new generations while continue to create the original Jupiter lineup, but they probably feared that people would rather buy a known-functional product than to chance money with a new design, so they forced returning customers to stick with only one choice: new generation equipment each time.
One of the main reasons a company does this is if they're not truly supporting the customer, but if they're supporting themselves--which we know to be true. They kept and mine with more hardware than they admitted to originally, using the customers' crowd-sourcing to fund their new designs to provide themselves better equipment at no cost.

"Close" is a relative term. They taped-out 20nm a whole year ago, and they're still shipping backlogged miners. 16nm is going to take even longer.

hows this for a FUCK YOU to KnC.
take a listen.
I paid 11 BTC for a neptune when btc was relatively high
I opted in for super jupiter (frankenjupiter)
received my hunk of shit half broken with heat-syncs smashing into the boards, there was some damage
I told them to send me more boards
bought some heat-syncs
made 2 frankenjupiters getting around 5+THS
Made about 17k of selling the gear and mining bitcoins (i sold 70% of one machine before I recieved it)
and the moral of the story is:
If I ever see Sam Cole I will punch him in the dick

The 16mm is going 'exclusively" to themselves for the data farm IPO etc...so THERE IS NO DOUBT AT ALL IMHO that it will be on time etc...Remember Sam Cole has stated he wants to own 40% of the bitcoin mining in the world....not only to mine the hell out of it and dump to USD asap......thus continuing to f*ck us over with this dump and run to usd.. we will be seeing his happy face all over bitcoin land for the next decade I'm afraid on his supposed 'bitcoin expertise' shudder....

They skillfully used our investment dollars against us. Bon-Appetite'. The up-coming difficulty rise will have devastating effects, have no doubt. -also- Some "Bonus" Neptunes are getting held hostage for "brokerage fees" from being held in customs so have your checkbook ready on delivery day unless you are refusing shipment. For those who are looking for a New "Bonus" Neptune from a reputable seller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NIB-KnCMiner-Neptune-3th-Bitcoin-Miner-/121579987577?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c4ebb6279&autorefresh=true In-hand, and ready to ship, opened only to inspect condition and inventory of contents. It looks to be new, and not from Iceland. No LED display inside, but has the 5-y-adapters.

Because of the excellent progress in yield learning and readiness in manufacturing maturity and also to meet customers' demand, we plan to pull in 16-nanometer volume production through the of Q2 next year or Q3 year 2015". The full reason behind the delay isn't known right now, but the demand of 20nm is growing quick with the launch of the new iPhone, with Apple tapping TSMC for the production of its A8 and A8X chips. Apple to replace TSMC with Samsung to produce A9 chipset for next iPhone Apple chose Samsung over TSMC for the A9 chip because of Samsung have soon 14/16 nm The move could let Apple cram more processing capabilities into a smaller space. Now on planet Earth nobody have mass production 14/16 nm chips. ASIC's are not near the complexity of Computer chips, and "The transistor" is nearly all the ASIC is packed with, so it does not require the "BEOL" process, and KNC's little order isn't "mass production" You won't have the opportunity to buy any of them anyway, as they are not "for sale" until they have another node process developed and have used them up on the cloud..... which is why and how TSMC can announce such things when referring to "normal" chip production. Also... tape-out, DOES NOT mean it's done... They need go through "Fabrication" yet which includes the packaging and pinning process before they get shipped to Sweden for pcb mounting. In the past, KNC has completed "Fab" within 8 weeks of Tapeout, and it's been 4 weeks already. You shall see... don't be surprised lol. This is Deja-Vu on both 28 and 20nm... the same comments were posted. http://www.extremetech.com/computing/177240-tsmc-arm-announce-first-16nm-finfet-tapeout-of-big-little-cortex-a57-soc
