This is an interesting place. When things are doing good we all share and enjoy the same feeling of success and richness (even if in different levels) and the opposite (like right now) also holds true.  Quite different than IRL friends, most of them being complete nocoiners. #justarandomthought

We should have a WO meetup some time. Maybe we can have an IRL celebration when BTC hits $100K haha.

like, a whole floor of a hotel...with the floors just above and just below for our collective security forces

If you are a merit source, then your merit page will come up like the below purple highlighted two paragraphs (though not really purple in real life) - noteably the difference in the second paragraph for merit sources:

>>>>>>>>You have received a total of XXXX merit. This is what determines your forum rank. You typically cannot lose this merit. You have XXX sendable merit (sMerit) which you can send to other people. There is no point in hoarding sMerit; keeping it yourself does not benefit you, and we reserve the right to decay unused sMerit in the future.

You are a merit source. The next XXX merit you spend will come from your source rather than your sMerit balance. Merit spent from your source will come back in 30 days. Unused source merit is wasted. It is not allowed for merit sources to sell their merit.
<<<<<<<<<<<<

As you may recall, the merit system activated on January 24, and therefore it was thought that if merit sources spent their smerits, then those smerits would start to replenish into the merit source on about February 23 - however, theymos stated that he had run into some glitch in the way that he had programmed the replenishment of merit source merits - in essence the script or the algorithm was screwed up.

It appears that theymos fixed that merit source replenishment glitch on about March 5, and replenishment of merit source smerits began again around March 5.

I didn't know about the glitch or any details of merit expiry, interesting stuff.

+1 WOsMerit

(I do have sMerit to give now, but you're a legend and a source, so it really feels like wasting the goods.)

After the merit system implemented, I did venture out there into the forum - outside of the WO thread, and it surely can be a scary place in which I bumped into a few things that maybe are not necessary to know regarding forum politics... - especially when it seems messy enough just to attempt to watch BTC price dynamics and the politics involved with BTC prices.. anyhow, there are a few things in the non-WO that I would not mind unseeing.

Surely personal discretion regarding how anyone spends their smerits, and merits are likely not only going to be used for ranking up since merits may end up displacing credibility aspects of the trust system in the future or establishing higher than Legendary ranks, perhaps?  Also, there can be some value with merits to identify relatively higher quality posts, too, perhaps?

Make it on Las Vegas during summer and I'm sold. Probably the only place in the world that could stand the assorted and extravagant bunch of us celebrating that awesome milestone in the most extreme and extravagant ways Smiley

Maybe we could even hire the Vodoo Lounge at the Rio (51st floor) just for our party.

Does anyone here have any experience of internet meets? I have a sneaking feeling they'd be fucking horrifying. And for some of the longstanding members there must be people with grudges against them out there, let alone blown opsec with wallet balances being linkable.

I'll send an actor. Or a cat.

I was involved in arranging/attending a BBS party and it was pretty cool.  The difference being that everyone resided within the local calling codes of the BBS.  What was most surprising was that there were no surprises.  Even though we were anonymous and had nicknames, people were pretty much the same as their online personas.  I left the party a little too early though because apparently i missed Rapunzel's table dance.   Cry  If i remember correctly, she was the resident cat lady; an eccentric artist.

On one hand that's reassuring. On the other if people are the embodiment of their online persona, in more than a few cases that is... not.

There was an ethereum conference in Mexico. They gave the attendees their own floor with keycard access and upped security for the event.

Once. I did it once when I was 12 years old. This was pre-internet days; a dial-up BBS meet-up in the 80s.

Wow was that awkward. These guys were NOTHING like I imagined from their online personas. Granted, I was pretty fucking naive.

Some things are just better left imagined.

This's interesting. We're no-where near the dotcom bubble yet in terms of market-cap:

But even if you consider bitcoin a bubble and think that it has reached a point where dotcom reached at all time high, and will burst like dot-com, then bitcoin has already lost 70% of its value from all time high, which was the total bubble burst of Nasdaq.
You're basing this only on the value of bitcoin core and are not including the value of all the altcoins, ICOs, blockchain tech stocks, futures markets, mining farms, etc.

Please explain how you can compare a "dot-com" valuation , to a cryptocurrency valuation?

My old silver stacking board (the one I recently mentioned that I had learned the admin had passed away) had a meetup in Vegas years ago.  I did not make it but all reports were positive.  I guess they had a pretty good time.

The ZeroHedge comment section guys had one...and they are doing it again if you can believe that...I have to admit, that boggles my mind, but if those obnoxious motherfuckers can get together and have a good time anything is possible.

Maybe rent one of these perhaps..the Howard Hughes seems apropos.

Bitcoin?  That is still a thing?

Why yes it is. The situation is normal, all....   I am posting 2 charts..one is a slightly bullish take on things and one is more bearish. I am sure many feel as I do, that the market is just waiting to dump more. However looking closely at the price action today is telling me that might not be the case any longer. Volume is increasing slightly and the price is hanging fairly steady at 8k+ for now. We could retest lower lows but I would think a slight run upwards seems more likely at this point as Friday approaches. #dyor #btfd

It's like danish summer here in Wellington. By which I mean not-cold enough to go for a walk outdoors without regretting it, and cloudy most of the time.

I'm far more interested in the people. Spent the first few days just sleeping in my room, about to start exploring the city today.

Wellington weather is mostly shit ... and not representative of the rest of NZ ... like the people. Wellington is infested with gubmint drones and sundry other parasites living off ripping off taxpayers.
Looks like it. It's not really a bad place, may even objectively be better than where I'm from, but not getting any New Home vibes either. Too many whales and skinny hipsters. I keep thinking people like that should switch around their body weight, they would both be happier and healthier for it.

This's interesting. We're no-where near the dotcom bubble yet in terms of market-cap:

I generally agree with this. The idea that it's the end of a great bubble conflicts with the capitalization of previous great bubbles. The South Sea Bubble went to $4tn in real terms and that was confined to a single country (albeit a world power then).

As Tera points out, we should include all crypto in the calculation, but at ~$850B the peak is still rather underwhelming as the finale of a global mania.
