oh hey they nuked shelby yet again Angry Sad , but not Shocked
i've a couple of archives of his recent oeuvre, but nothing substantial. did anyone get it all down? pm ok

Pretty sure he nukes himself.

I understand his desire not to want to rewrite the same arguments over and over again but couldn't he avoid invoking the ire of the mods by simply making a nice blog and linking to the relevant articles? It seems like that it's the re-posting of the walls of text that is pissing them off, not the fact that he is making re-posts. Re-posting the same link a few times where it is actually relevant I don't think would cause him to get in trouble. Or would it? Are they super strict about any re-posting?

No. It's 100% opt in.

I thought that trezor was kind of the gold standard, and other hardware wallets are not quite up to snuff...   Trezor also have just come out with the new version model T.

Second, I also thought that it was best to attempt to purchase any hardware wallet directly with the manufacturer, so I am not sure if going through Amazon is necessarily acceptable... a problem with some of these wallets and their being tampered with.

You are correct. Buying the Trezor from a third party puts you at risk. The person could somehow compromise the firmware to make the device insecure and let you be open to getting your BTC stolen. I think simply updating the firmware when you get the device should mitigate the risk. However, hackers are a tricky bunch. (I suppose Slush could do the same thing. Create a backdoor to his own device. So in the end, it is a matter of trust. The only way to be completely trustless is to create a paper wallet on an air-gapped computer. Edit: that isn't completely trustless either because you are trusting the program that helps you make the paper wallet. I guess you can just make a random private key using dice slips of paper that you wrote yourself and calculate by hand the public key and the BTC address..Cheesy)

trezor.

I second that. I have a Keepkey. It's a POS device, made by a POS company, which is run by POS Bitcoin saboteur Erik Voorhees.

You can chose legacy or segwit, even within the same wallet to have two divisions and to be able to view overall balance or the balance of the separate formats.

I am pretty sure that if you seed a trezor with a wallet that you already have, then it will keep the same format, and you can view each of the locations... and move coins between segwit or legacy addresses too, to the extent that you feel more comfortable with one versus another or some combination.

A bit nutty, but his models seem to focus on October 2020 as peak moment: https://hackernoon.com/modelling-bitcoin-price-metcalfes-law-volatility-and-a-simulation-into-the-future-68ea0bcf5370

I have been dabbling with Ledger Nano S. It handles many currencies. For a long time it's only direct connection was with  Electrum on Tails Linux (very good) or Chromium plugin on Chrome (less good). They recently released a standalone Linux client for it (very good).

One feature I like, is that you can add a second password, for a second amount. Plausible deniability.

I'm thinking the next chapter past the block size debate will be the payment debate.

I haven't been able to scan a QR code in the past few months and have it actually work due to differing protocols.

Found some money on some Korean BTC wallet I had yesterday. Tried to add it to localbitcoins but it was looking for a different format (instead of just BTC address). I've had to switch to PayPal to pay my hosting service because I can't send money from my blockchain.info wallet to their BitPay QR code.

wait, doesn't the Trezor stuff you in segwit addys?

What gave you that idea?

Somebody some tens of pages back during the anonymint apocalypse wanted a summary.

I replied to let the old keys sit and head down to the Winchester for a pint.

They replied that was not an option for them as they had recently migrated to a trezor.

Clearly I jumped to conclusions...my bad.

This is a very good post. I had no idea you had such technical insights. My bad.
