We created a simple trial comparing lump sum to the strategy of investing in the same amount monthly over a year, and found that lump sum still won ~67.9% of the time. Even the arbitrarily reduced dataset showed that Lump Sum beats DCA 60.8% of time.

DCA is still way the fuck more practical for the vast majority of peeps.

Most of us already know that a large number of peeps cannot even come up with a few hundred dollars for an emergency.

Therefore it is way the fuck better for them to invest regularly, as if they were buying a coffee or an extra bag of groceries or whatever and then just forget about it for 5 years or more.

Vast majority of peeps DCA because that's all they get every month, or every bi-weekly pay check / salary / wage.

The lump sum is for when other types of people, somehow already have saved up or acquired this lump sum another way, in addition or separate to any regularly scheduled income.

DCA is good for those who are more risk averse and want to smooth any potential slippage.

Lump sum does work for traditional investments, and at least it's like "one and done." and no need to think too much.

Any additional investments, would naturally be DCA'd simply because that's all you get every month.

This experiment does give us some useful insights though. Dollar Cost Averaging is a form of smoothing that reduces the volatility associated with investing date. Investing at the ‘wrong’ time can cause a lot of anxiety and wishful thinking, if only I had waited to buy in or if only I sold at the peak. Using DCA we can alleviate the pressure of worrying that we’re investing at a peak right before a looming cliff.

Which is the whole point of DCA.. Remove emotion. Just do it every month on specific dates. Just buy. Don't think.

Have small amount of stops before the margin call. Your margin call price will get lower and have a stop before that call. (cross leverage)

Your position will be underwater and need a price above your oginal entry but better than losing it all.

Well said. And, I should add, make the stops redundant - the last two should go over what's needed with the "close only"  flag set. Just in case, you know. When turmoil and panic ensue, price jumps can be badly discontinuous.

At least your take about "breathing stops", as I call them, is IMO golden. Your analysis of current prices hits a fair match with what my SOMA tools  report. Technicals apart, given the wimpy volume, 9k retest is entirely possible - for example, in the scenario where this is just a slow, deep "shake down"  in a double "shake down, shake up" move or, even better, in a "shake down, move up (front run the halving)".

Note I'm saying nothing about your beliefs, "religion"  or attitude, which might be seen as crappy and will be promptly swatted should the need arise.

Thc build up your tolerance fast. That's what's happening in the USA market, with people dabbing pure thc and so on... imho this is not a sane behavior, and could lead to some damage long-term (and a second ban of the relatively harmless cannabis).

CBD is the "good" part of cannabis, it has some anxyolitic and antipsychotic properties (contrary to thc), but to feel an effect you have to ingest like a gram or so (according to clinical trials), so it can get really expensive.

While i was in pittsburgh at IBM for a week. Otherwise she would have had a driver with a car to take her home
I'm glad i missed this, i would have tried it myself. I was way more sensitive to THC than her.
She could never stand that taste again, by the way.

EDIT: I saw the btc dip in the morning, that was exactly what i was feeling about yesterday. Same constellations as before the last dip: Similar low volume, short green 1d candle, short red 1d candle in a narrowing bollinger band, the red candle breaking slightly below the lower BB boundary and boom. See the cryptowatch screenshots i posted yesterday...
If it also drops a few hundred within 24h, i'm gonna be fine with that. Approaching rebuy zone 3... 2... 1...

Obviously, if someone doesn't have a lump sum, then they cannot invest a lump sum.
They simply analyzed all possible scenarios.
One conclusion could be that in life it is better to have an investable lump sum than DCA as it simply opens up more investing options, clearly.
Heck, one can even borrow such a lump sum-a risky path that I don't condone, but in some situations it works. I used it a few times, more than a decade ago, when market was strong and you only paid 0-2% to borrow. Now cc companies boosted the borrowing % to 4-5% and it does not make sense anymore. Getting personal loans from the bank is possible, but you need to have a cash flow present to justify such loan.
