... Just one question By making change what happens to the remaining balance ?
p2pool does not really have a "balance" like other pools, payouts are made immediately each time the pool finds a block (one of the very cool features of p2pool). You may be referring to your "payout if a block were found now" or the expected payout for your miner. That represents the value of your current shares on the p2pool share chain, which remain valid as long as they are on the chain (~8,640 valid shares). If you switch to another p2pool node and use the same miner address you will continue to contribute to that miner addresses expected payout. This makes p2pool highly DDoS resistant in that as long as you can reach a p2pool node somewhere (i.e. set primary and backup pools to several p2pool nodes) you can continue mining without interruption.

I've been working on a new node scanner for P2Pool.org and while I was writing the crawler I realized it would be trivial to add in the network edges for each node and visualize it, so I did. I'm really happy with the result so I thought I'd share it... This is just a snapshot in time (10:30 this morning) of the network, but I may update it hourly at some point in the future. I was quite pleased with our node count and connectivity! 111 active miners 91 nodes discovered (p2pool version 16+) 47 public nodes (blue) 44 private nodes (yellow) The visualization at http://p2pool.org/nodes/ is interactive, allows you to zoom for IP addresses, and click to highlight a nodes peers. I doubt it will work on mobile browsers... Here is a screen shot of the P2Pool network: See the interactive version: http://p2pool.org/nodes/

Hard to decipher if it's random, it's certainly not consistent. It has been a long time since I saw 6 PH/s on P2Pool, and we're back over 100 miners too 😍.

The share difficulty is over 2,000,000. Wild!

you can trust the P2Pool to handle this ... beautifully. From 1,5 PH/s to 7 PH/s in less than 1 hour.

I am going to guess that the hashrate spike was one of the manufacturers testing their new stuff on p2pool for compatibility. The bummer is that all of my shares were orphaned during the spike.

That of course happens on p2pool when there is one miner with a high % of the pool ... For normal BTC that's called a 51% attack. For p2pool that's ... not uncommon.

Hey SixOfFive - Thanks for letting us in on the inside scope. Just curious if you're willing to share your long term plan; I.E. Just testing or plans for bringing that Hashrate long term to P2Pool? Cheers!

To start with, it was a test and continues to be a test I guess. Recently this has become a collaboration between myself and a friend after proving to be profitable.
Basically the first couple weeks were minor amount of mining from rentals and setting up a large amount of merge mining and getting that balanced properly as well as automatic distribution of the MM coins to external accounts ... something I really wish was native to p2pool (not that I'm complaining... p2pool is awesome!)
It may become long term, but I'm not certain if it will be constant (they are rentals, and as such (like on NH) can be affected by market). While I would like to have a high amount of hashing on the pool (10phs+), obviously thats rather costly in rentals (not to mention limited .. NH for both euro and america combined doesn't even have 20phs atm). It will most likely be surges of up to 10phs every 3 or 4 days which last between a few hours and upwards of a day.
I have smaller amounts on a constant level on p2pool, but nothing more than say 50ths in total. My old BFL running at 6ghs I even have pointed to it (free power at my rental, so cost of running it isn't a factor).
If it continues to be profitable for us, I may seriously consider dedicating 1 or 2 phs for the long term on the pool via rentals.
I really do apologize for the orphans for some people I've created... I didn't realize that that may be a by-product of this.

Thanks for checking in, it's much appreciated, and welcome to p2pool! ... I really do apologize for the orphans for some people I've created... I didn't realize that that may be a by-product of this.
P2Pool has an inherently high orphan rate for shares (and an inherently low one for blocks), it's part of mining on the pool and I'd encourage you to continue your testing. To me the overall benefit of the increased hashrate/reduced variance greatly outweighs the orphaned shares. That being said, I do think it's important to note that you will find greater returns in the long run with a consistent hashrate on the pool. PPLNS (p2pool's payout method) by design discourages pool hopping, pretty successfully. While your not technically hopping, it will have the same effect for you. Also, to truly have an accurate test of how p2pool can preform for you; you would need to mine for at least 3 days (the approximate length of the p2pool share chain), and then subsequently have the pool find a block. If you can spread your budget over that time I believe you will see better results.
