I have a couple of questions.

1) How to configure my p2pool node as a full node that accepts incoming miners and properly reimburses them?

2) What in the HE double tooth pics happened between p2pool.in and p2pool.org? There seems to be something weird that happened and no search I have done on google or bitcointalk seems to provide any history or background. I went with the information provided by p2pool.org when I noticed the p2pool.in stats page appears to have stopped working sometime in 2015 between January and March. Being as it is now January 2017 it appears that p2pool.in was no longer providing network stats. Further research shows that p2pool.in was merged into p2pool.org's info when the GIT repository was changed from p2pool/forestv to p2pool/p2pool . Unfortunately there are still several places where there are dire warnings about using p2pool.org verses p2pool.in on various webpages and even on the old GIT for forestv. I heard references that forestv had taken a leave due to personal issues but I have not seen any official retraction stating that p2pool.org is ok to use.

The confusion surrounding question 2 needs to be addressed as I am thinking it is blocking many miners from choosing to go with p2pool in any form. Contradictory information often does not lead to wrong action, it leads to no action.

I have only been running a node for a month now but mining p2Pool on and off for a while now. I've decided to mine p2Pool for the forseable future.

I run my node under Centos rather than Ubuntu.
It's not that difficult to do and most of the info in the first link, whilst a little old is still applicable.

It took about a week to fine tune my node and it runs really well.
I'm at www.ukp2pool.uk and it's a free public node.

Give it a try on an old PC first if you don't have much experience with Linux just to make sure you can.
If you have any questions then post up here I'm sure the community will help.

No issues using git pull from the two links I posted.

I believe p2Pool.org is forest's site not sure about the other one. I've come across it and the stats are years old.
The pool is very much alive and well, just needs more Miners so jump aboard.
Don't let the variance between blocks worry you, sit back and smile with a decent pay out.

Both p2Pool.org and the other are just nodes on the network, just like mine.
There is no master node anywhere, under the hood they are all the same.

I don't know all the history but I'll explain what I can, most of the "old timers" who were here when I came around are not active anymore, but perhaps someone will fill in the blanks.

p2pool.in was developed by someone other than me or Forest, when the developer moved on he gave control to Forrest, when p2pool.in broke Forrest did not have the time/inclination to fix it.

When that happened I built minefast.coincadence.com (now p2pool.org)  mostly out of a desire to have the data for myself, but I figured I'd share it.

The story with p2pool.org was that it was a squatted domain, when Forrest launched p2pool the then owner set up a large high fee node for Bitcoin and many altcoins rather then turning it over to Forrest, that is where all the warnings came from.

A couple/few years ago I reached out to the owner of p2pool.org and was able to negotiate a deal and buy the domain. I then shut down all the nodes and made it a simple information site for folks interested in p2pool.

A few months ago I was moving servers and decided to move the front end from minefast.coincadence.com to p2pool.org. At this point I also switched from 0 fee to 2% (1 for me, 1 for Forrest).

I developed the current site and own p2pool.org.

If anyone is interested, there is some initial code to enable a p2pool backed mining pool here: https://github.com/yrral86/proxy-p2pool

Essentially, it allows a group of people to mine to a single p2pool address and it records the shares each address/username submits.  The log file can then be parsed to determine payouts.  I ran it for a couple months quite some time ago, but there was not much interest at that time.

I would suggest lottery mining on something like http://solo.ckpool.org/. 50GH/s probably only produces dust payments.

That's a really good idea, I'll certainly pass the details on if this comes up in other places.
I'm ok with a decent hash rate but there are still loads of people this would benefit, and it helps p2Pool as well.

Is there a need for a high performance well connected public p2pool node? I could set one up behind a ckpool sanitiser to optimise performance and propagation speed. Last time I did this however, hardly any miners actually used the service.

How exactly does the NastyPoP payout method work? Does it payout with p2pool payouts or is it a separate manual payout?

The overview is that it keeps track of all your hashes in a weekly period, and then pays you proportionately for your hashes with the BTC earned that week.  Sort of like a PPS system, but the PPS rate isn't known until the end of the week.  This has the effect of reducing variance for smaller miners.

Alas it hardly seems worth if you're far away and going to be the only miner on it. I'll leave the offer open in case many more people raise their hand but at this stage won't be going ahead with setting it up.
