Merit & new rank requirements

The bit I like most about the meriting system is that it comes mostly when one isn't really expecting it. Like the last time I was merited. 
I felt I gave my best in delivering my thoughts on a topic, and just went ahead to other things. Only for me to see my count increased. 
Merits simply shows appreciation for good input. No reason to add a de-merit, as the concept will become flawed and rather exhausting for newbies and junior ranking members.

Is there like an A.I. that can Determine if a post is worth to be merited or not? If there is no such thing like that then you guys do it Manually?

It's a manual process. There's no need to determine with AI whether a post deserves merit or not. Every one is free to share merit to anyone if they think the post deserves merit. It's not something like others have to agree. If I find a post merit worthy in my opinion, I can share as long as I have available smerit. Smerits are sendable merits, for every 2 merits you receive, you will have 1 smerit to send.
There are merit sources who can generate a certain amount of smerits every month.

In a sense - yes, but you have a limited number of merit points you can send (for every 2 merits you get, you earn 1 merit you can send to someone else), which makes it much different, i.e. people tend to merit posts that they find helpful or valuable rather than throwing merits around at every post they agree with.

Nope, it's entirely subjective and done manually. Wouldn't make much sense otherwise.

It's not something like others have to agree. If I find a post merit worthy in my opinion, I can share as long as I have available smerit. Yes, you can use any scenario to set an example as long as you can understand and get the scope behind merit, first merit can be earned from any user on the forum provided they also have smerits to give out, it's not a must that anyone should give you except they finds taughts in what you've posted, you don't request for it, you earn it through the quality delivery in what you post on the forum and respective boards.

Nothing like the use of AI on the forum and most people here kicked against it because it not something you have a direct link or conversation with human but a programmed machine, you merit someone manual, there's no big deal in doing that because it's very simple and requires no technical skills.

If you have an account on the BitcoinTalk forum, you already know how valuable Merit is. Earlier it was very easy to get merit but now it is very difficult to get merit.

I was a bit disappointed with the way people were trying to get merit. A few days ago I came across a newbie thread titled "How to get Merit", where other members suggested:

1) Make quality posts.
2) Give useful information.
3) Help other members solve problems.

Some of the members suggested some terrible things. They were like this:

1) Buy an account.
2) Exchange merit.

I want to share how you can earn merit through today's post.

1) First understand yourself, merit is nothing. Now the question may come why?
Because when you are doing something useful in the community, doing the right things, there is something good in you. Never judge it by merit. There is no such thing as merit. It can be a reward for doing something good.

2) Spread positive things around you.

3) Post only on topics that you understand well.
If you understand mining well then go to altcoin discussion and help people, give advice. If you have any important information please share it with the community.
If you are a coder then visit the software sections and share your ideas.
If you are a trader then discuss trading. Find boards you like and share your positive views.

4) How lucky are you?
After all, luck is also a matter.

Finally remember one thing, merit is nothing if it is the main and important thing. So no need to read about merit. You do your job. If your work adds value to the community, then the community members will already give you merit.

And for the purpose of newbies, I will say one thing, after reading this post, you should never complain again. Do your best all the time.

Earlier it was very easy to get merit but now it is very difficult to get merit.

Maybe you're not a quality poster or an active member, while you're complaining this, other serious members were busy thinking about quality contributions they could offer and are taking research on what to contribute.

First understand yourself, merit is nothing.

On the one hand, I like your message. It sounds very right that merits are secondary, but primary is how we present ourselves on the forum, what we talk about, how we communicate, whether we have something to share with others and what knowledge to draw from them. Of course it is so.

However, to say that merites are nothing in the topic of how merites affect ranks is a bit sly. Yes, ranks are also secondary compared to what we can get from the forum, but still merit affects the possibility of obtaining them.

In addition, just as it’s nice to get likes on social networks, it’s nice to get merits on the forum. Someone noticed your post, someone liked it or found it interesting. Of course, if there were no likes on the forum at all, that would be fine too. But there are merits, and why not be glad to receive them?

Mate you are young in this forum and all you need is to follow the rules and regulations here in the forum and some try to break the rules as we are all known that once you broke the rules you have a chance to temporary banned or permanent banned here in our community.  And also as a newbie it's better to understand how the forum works and   to pursue your dreams that you want to rank up then you should make a quality post in order to revive enough merits and activity to the next rank.

I just saw your post history and you started well as a newbie and try to help and get knowledge from the forum. The forum is a great learning place if you have this intention.

As you move along, the merits will come automatically, and you will rank up slowly and steadily. You do not need to worry about the merits, rather you should be more focused on getting used to the rules of the forum so that your account does not become restricted in case of any violation unintendedly.

I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
 - Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
 - Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.

While we will not be directly moderating this, I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

Going through so much of post recently and replying to those I'm sure I know quite a lot about I've seen that in no way does this forum encourage non-quality post but I think if you're not fast enough in some responses you might just be late to gain merit because someone would have replied just exactly what you are to say and the others sometimes don't get to be merited.
When you said beg for merit excessively it's as if begging moderately is permitted I'm sure you meant not begging at all
Nonetheless there are post where you can be made to get to your next rank on fulfilling your activities even when you lack enough merit I'm sure that's not begging
I'll like to add that we really can't say for sure how people judge quality post especially those with multiple accounts get to give merits to themselves, this can happen actually.

You make posts because your posts are helpful. Helpful means it is early and on time like you described. If some members already answered the question, help the member who needs help, you are late, skip it after reading.

If you try to repeat with the same answer, just with different words, no one will give you merit because your answers are useless.

Ultimately, you make posts not because that will help you gain merit.

That's desperation and much expectations, some think being in this Forum and getting all that needs to be gotten is a competition. Newbies always forget about recognition before getting merit and those thoughts of getting merit and all that can't get off their head. You have to be recognized before getting merit and if nobody knows you or sees the effort and contributions you're making in the Forum then is like you're not here, it will like you activated ghost mode.
Like we always say in this kind of situation "life nah jeje" (that's in my country), take life slowly no rush in life.

As a newbie, I'm much less inclined to altruistic considerations like what I can add to a forum. I'm much more interested in what I can get from the forum. If the forum has useful information, funny chatter, then users will share something one way or another. And long discussions about how to make the forum better and that newbies in the good old days were better are not as inspiring as those who write them think.

There's nothing wrong with that. I appreciate independent thinkers who can demonstrate original thought. The problem as I see it is the dynamics of the forum have shifted completely to the point where the only reason people sign up anymore is to join a campaign, or a bounty, or a second campaign or bounty (or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc.).

When I first joined, signature campaigns weren't really a thing. Well they were but I'd say only about 30% of the forum participated in them. I was drawn here because I was seeking info on a now-extinct coin, but I'm glad I stuck around as I've learned a whole lot in the process. Nowadays people aren't interested in learning about bitcoin, crypto or the blockchain so much as how to get merits and write posts that can just barely meet their campaign requirements and won't get deleted as spam.

The stuff that I learned from having an open mind and wanting to learn allowed me to create more wealth than any sig campaign ever could. There's a lot of ways to make money here; campaigns are just the most obvious one. There's several better ways, peeps just have to want to find them for themselves.
