After learning this system, it seems that I can never be a member. How can I become a member, anyone can help me?
Why being member matters? Just asking. If it matters something to you, try contributing to the forum with constructive post. According to the definition of Lucius, be a merit whore  Cheesy

Yes, the merit system is a very important effort to improve the quality of user post and this system is also one of the requirements to improve accounts for user whose rank is still low. The merit system is not moderated and this show that you can get it from anyone in your quality post.

So far you have not received any merit and therefore you must remain in the current ranking even though you have posted and have activities above 30. If you want to get merit and move up the ranking, then start posting quality thing and thats what the only way is to achieve a higher rank.

Of course not. Same goes for deleted posts, and in your merit summary it is shown that you got merit for (Deleted/Off-limits/Ignored).

It is stated merits can't be deleted or reversed once given out. Even if your posts/topics gets deleted your earned merits can't be removed. There is a FAQ about Merits @Hilariousandco pointed out this in this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2766177.0

It was PIOUPIOU99 who got his merit removed by theymos for some reason, but it wasn't because of deleted post. Many others (myself included) recieved merit for posts that were later deleted, and merit was not removed just because of that. As I said before, getting merited posts or topics deleted doesn't remove your merit.

This user sent a message and ask to delete his merit from his account. And his message gets a response from theymos, and merit being deleted. here is the first post from him about it
hallo ,
excuse me for disturbing, how to do it, so that my merits no longer exist, or delete my merits please. but I just want to keep my pseudonym/alias .
thank you, no debate just action.

I think @LoyceV did a one off post that was merited and deleted and the merits are still attributed.  (my apologies if I recall incorrectly who did the experiment)

It wasn't removed, it was requested by @PIOUPIOU99
So, the forum admins had to adhere to his plea and striped him off of the merits he had earned (44) prior to the request he made.

I've recently moved my Loyce.club to SSL, so all image links to "http" should be replaced by "https". I've edited your quote to work:
Yes, it doesn't matter.

it's done, it was not a ploy
Wow! Your post is definitely worth reading, because I haven't seen this happen at someone's request before! But I won't be the one to spoil your precious Newbie-status.

Merited by JayJuanGee (1)
 #6215

For users who are curious about the -44 merit transaction, there are 17 transactions like that (with negative amount of merit), according to the last Friday merit data dump by theymos.

Details:
Code:
        cat |      Freq.     Percent        Cum.
------------+-----------------------------------
  neg merit |         17        0.00        0.00
  pos merit |    369,275      100.00      100.00
------------+-----------------------------------
      Total |    369,292      100.00

For negative merit transactions only
Code:
     amount |      Freq.     Percent        Cum.
------------+-----------------------------------
        -44 |          1        5.88        5.88
        -10 |          5       29.41       35.29
         -9 |          2       11.76       47.06
         -8 |          1        5.88       52.94
         -7 |          1        5.88       58.82
         -5 |          2       11.76       70.59
         -4 |          1        5.88       76.47
         -2 |          3       17.65       94.12
         -1 |          1        5.88      100.00
------------+-----------------------------------
      Total |         17      100.00

There are some very special cases that get demerit activities from theymos
Code:

Wait, if the thread you had created and received many merits gets deleted, do you lose them?
No. Once a merit is sent, the only way it can be "reversed/unsent" is if theymos manually revert them from your account. If the thread/post is deleted, it will show: X merits received for (Deleted).

edit: was not in the last page...

You moved it to https. Doesn't the old http works? Does it direct to https?
It does redirect to HTTPS automatically.

So, it still possible to remove merit from an account if I ask it to theymos?

I have an alt account and had given that account 1 merit from myself, after that I delete several posts from the alt (include the merited post). I know no matters how many merits I gave to my alt, it still get into merit abuse case. Whats I'm doing till now is keep that account inactive and if this account got problem i.e tempban/permaban (hope it won't happen) I will create a new account for appealing.

Link profile: alt account (bpip)

What's the better solution about it guys? Keep that account inactive and never use it anymore? Or ask theymos to remove merit from that account?

You can try to ask for the account’s merit removal, but I doubt it will be done (nor should it be in my opinion). There are a bunch of linked accounts that have been unveiled partly due to the ability to track sMerit TXs, and it shouldn’t become a trend to try to delete self-sMeriting Alt TXs out of principle.

In any case, except for a few cases of extreme merit abuse right at the beginning, the solution would be a counter sMerit TX nowadays: the Merit balance would be cero, but both TXs would display in the TX history (visible either from the profile within 120 days, or from third-party platforms that display all sMerit TXs).

A question, since you receive merits/2 as sMerits, and when you send those sMerits to others, they will get halved too, doesn't it mean that someday, all sMerits will be 0?

When in doubt, read the OP:
Certain users are designated as "merit sources". They can create new merit out of nothing, up to a limited number per month (which differs per source).
