Merit & new rank requirements

Still no higher rank after Legendary which is a shame as that’s something I think that would be a good addition. It’s fairly easy to become a Legendary Member within, let’s say 5-6 years.

I think we need something for the >10,000 Merit Received and >4000 Activity crew, something that takes more than a decade to achieve.

If it takes more than a decade to reach such a rank, do you really think there will be many newbies who will genuinely set this goal and achieve it? The rank you’re proposing will be obtained by those who have already grown into it anyway and have accumulated the required amount of merit and activity — those who have already spent around 10 years on the forum, maybe a bit less. Overall, nothing will change. It will just be a label under the profile, and it won’t add any motivation. Newbies struggle even to reach Full Member, let alone a rank beyond Legendary.

To me I don't think this additional rank limits anyone from growing up, what just happened is that it would be those with 10k merits above to have a special preferences and nothing much.
To me I will say it's only a lazy poster who could find it that hard to scale through the forum, and of course the requirements are introduced to reduced spam over here and that is the only way the forum can scrap away shit posters or those who are only here seeking to rank up so quickly without any value or contribution from them.
Look, I am not against your opinion but we can also let that slide if that additional rank is introduced it won't have any effects on newbies or any other rank just as a milestone to achieve for getting to 10k merits, at least let that be a honor to those people because isn't that easy to achieve 10k.

Though it is nice for him to be channeling most of his post to those sensitive sections you just mentioned but that alone can not also guarantee him of getting the merit he craved for, what will help him greatly is to improve more on his posting method, he should ensure his post contains some level of quality ( a Post containing some information or deep knowledge that can be useful or helpful to the community) to attract the merit he so desired.

Secondly, another thing he should do is to try as much not to focus more on hunting for merit because it wouldn't come if he's doing that, he should just do what is expected from him,  make quality and educative Post and am pretty sure something positive will come.

My local board is very different, if you do not know them, they will not send you any merit. Among the merit sources there, only igebotz sent merits very well, the remaining among them did not send me merit. If you do not know them, the chance of them send you merit is very low. I have 80 merits now, but two merit sources in my local board have not sent me merit, Mia Chloe only sent 1 merit after we had many good conversations on our posts together which is very bad. For me this is very bad of them all. Probably this may not be happening on other local boards.

To earn merit on this forum is very simple, look for where the good posters with high earned merits are posting, know what they are posting, learn more about what they are posting and post just like them and try to become better. That means you have improved in knowledge and have become part of the community and their merits means that they have accepted you.

The only way merit is created is by these meriter members, right? and they are completely unbiased, impartial, and dont engage in favouritism is any way? can i see the proof that anything has been done to ensure these things dont happen? When someone gives you merit, you can send half of it to someone else. ok, can you do that at any time or just at the point in time you've received it? the answer to that question is likely irrelevant because either way the glaring issue is still very much visible: if people need merit to level up, who the hell that wants to rank up is going to actually send half of it to someone else? very few, guaranteed. another major overlooked issue, and this one is likely the biggest one, is that people will obviously only merit you if they agree with you. you could make a very detailed post or make a very good argument to something someone has said, which ive done many times, but if the other people that view the thread in the short time following you posting (because i doubt people merit posts from ages ago) dont agree with you (even if they are certainly, verifiably wrong), well guess what? thats right, no merit.

Every forum has it own flaws, the merit system is not perfect but considering how the forum was before the introduction of the merit system and now, there is a better change. You said you read about the forum on askgamblers.com and you got interested to join the forum but you found out that you ain't earning merits to take you to different ranks and possibly join a signature campaign where you can get paid and you became angry and start questioning the merit system but if you were wise you should have known the boards and sections you can make productive posts that can earn you merits within your 10 months of being here but instead your posts are mostly in the gambling section where merits doesn't circulate much as a result of low quality posts that are being flooded in that section day in, day out.

Check the statistics of merits that are sent daily here and you will know that merits is very much in circulation. If you notice that there are people who favors others more in giving merits, you can possibly try and make the kind of posts that attracts merits from such users and it wouldn't be difficult for you to earn merits from them. However, remember that there are other users who also discovered the forum just like you and they do not have any body to favor them but some of them have even gotten a lot of merits within their short time in the forum. My advice to you is that you should make posts in boards that are relevant where discussions are very productive then you will earn merits along the line. We have many generous merits senders here who are unbiased and doesn't engage in favoritism while sending merits.

You cannot condemn a system when you do not have a solution on how it can improve, if you have ideas you want to suggest to the forum then why not bring it on.

Well first I can still vividly remember when you raised a topic about merits a couple. Months ago and I can also remember another guy in same thread too. I quoted you both to drop your posts you feel are of quality and deserve some merits but it seems only the other guy did and you didn't.

That aside you can't really compare me and igebotz in merit sending mostly because he has way more allocation than I do and to the best of my knowledge I'm doing the best I can for LB. Originally my source is mostly meant for the technical board plus if you have more technical posts I'll hardly skip.

Very true... A newbie can confidently set the goal of becoming a legendary member and it will damn happen. But if a rank that takes upto a decade to be achieved is introduced, no newbie will want to set the goal to make it to that rank.
Meanwhile, before that 10 years, there will be call for another rank.

I think I am used to this legendary as the highest rank. Last year when I was active in the Altcoinstalks forum, I didn't care or even regard ranks higher than legendary. I always treated legendary as the highest rank. Meanwhile, here in the forum, I don't fail to recognise and respect people with higher merits, activity and post count. Then TBH, men like LoyceV, fillippone, etc deserve another rank lol.

Back in 2018, I suggested this:

We're going to need another rank above Legendary eventually (if we don't already). Not sure what it should be called, but others have suggested some titles somewhere.

I'd say just "Legend" sounds good. Or maybe just add a bold font to the current Legendary rank.

By now, I suggest just "old", or "golden oldie"

There are already 3 users that has more than 5000 activity.

I don't think theymos is going to add a new Rank that only he and one other user qualify for. So the suggested requirements are too high.

A new rank might not be a bad idea.. Maybe activity of 3,000 and merit of 6,000 (2x the activity)

or

maybe even better activity of 3,000 and merit of 4,500 (1.5x the activity).

A higher than Legendary rank necessary or not?  I am not sure, even though several times over the years, I have seen proposals for a higher than Legendary rank.

I also easily analogize to my friends who are interested in joining this forum, usually I explain about the ranking with the school level, I explain this based on ranking.

Kindergarten School Level
Brand new - class A
Newbie - class B

Elementary School Level
Jr Member - Class 1
Member - Class 2
Full Member - Class 3
Sr. Member - Class 4
Hero Member - Class 5
Legendary - Class 6

That way they understood what I meant, as I went by I explained about merit etc.

Most Ranks, except for the lowest ones, more or less double the requirements. So why not just continue that to 2000 Merit and Activity, the next one at 4000 and maybe even a third new Rank at 8000? Let's see who's the first to reach it in ~10 years!

More fun ideas: make a Rank named "Top", that's only available for the Top 42 users. If someone takes over, you could lose your rank

I share in your point of view. From my perspective I will say legendary rank is time-gated and it has already placed the due reward for long participation and credibility of users. Creating a new rank higher than legendary will only trigger absurd merit threshold and a possible rank inflation. With the current highest rank we have merit scarcity but if a higher threshold is set the merit system might break overtime.

We should rather focus on the trust history after attaining legendary rank. Let's have more reputable high profiled users who will raise their badges higher with good reputation to back up their current ranks .

I think Theymos messing with people’s rank on April fool’s days is enough fun already (which I don’t find amusing enough) rather than messing with the ranking system for fun, I think it’ll be more appropriate to try something else, like earning some badges or something. Cos tinkering with the ranking system for no other reason but fun feels a bit unnecessary. I don’t know about others but I think the ranking system is meant to predictable, consistent and earned, and not something people have to second guess. It works better when they’re stable, boring and fair, not something someone can just wake up one morning and alter cos they wanna have fun. I mean fun’s cool but not when it comes at the expense of people’s trust in the system. My 1 cent opinion.

There are also no guarantees that the forum will even exist in 10 years. The world is changing day by day, technologies are evolving very quickly, and especially online communication platforms. Forums mostly exist for those who don’t find this format too outdated or strange, or for those who have already gotten used to it. And it’s clear that those who are used to it have already had time to grow into meaningful ranks. But newbies who register today won’t be motivated by a high rank that takes 10 years to reach, without knowing what will happen in a year or two, let alone in a decade.

Yes, you have got a valid points on what you just said above regarding your view about the proposed new merit system Sir LoyceV and co were discussing above. Because to me, the forum is absolutely very quite okay, as it's got a unique structure that makes everybody knows their stand, and likewise respect for each other. And on that note, I think an introduction of badges would be very much perfect for members with 5000 merits, 10,000 merits,, 20,000 merits and 50,000 merits respectively can all have their badges in different colors. It will be a cool idea.
