Advice time

Say that I want to cashout a (minor) amount of my Dash coming from my nodes into €

Right now, this process is extremely long and costs a lot. The best option looks like:

- I move my Dash from my wallet to an exchange, i.e. Polo
- I buy BTCs
- I move these BTCs to an exchange that operates in €, i.e. 247exchange (best option IMHO right now for €)
- I buy €
- I Cashout €

All the above passages cost some money, in some cases actually a huge % that makes absolutely suboptimal to change less than 1K€ (and even there it's bad).

Am I missing something? Is there a better way?

Also, what about FIAT gateways project?

Thanks in advance
You can take the step of the exchange out.  There are wallets with shapeshift integration that can convert Dash to BTC easily.  Personally, I like a mobile wallet like Coinomi (android) so I can trade when prices change.  Plus you can scan a QR code when sending to a btc to fiat processor instead of copying and pasting.  The Exodus wallet is available for your desktop and is really easy to use.  Jaxx also has the exchange option.  It will be adding dash soon and could be the first iphone dash wallet on the app store.

You can also use bitsquare which is a decentralized exchange.  You can exchange dash to btc and to fiat in small amounts.  The exchange rates don't look very good, but it is an option.

Hey Solarminer, maybe you can answer this; I installed the Exodus wallet the other day on my desktop. But it doesn't appear to have any security settings other than when backing up a wallet? I thought there would be an option to set a password and encrypt the private key, but I couldn't find such an option. Have you used the Ecodus wallet? Do you know if such a feature exists? I only have a few mbit in the wallet but it seems insecure if the funds are just sitting there, without any passwords. I have yet to send anything with the Exodus wallet so maybe I am missing something obvious.

Hello again

I am sorry, but I don't get the wallet thing.
With Jaxx, for example (i've seen the interview) I could i change Dash into € and then move them to my account without passing through a "normal" exchange? Or, even if I leave them in the wallet (way too many) how do I spend them?

Pardon me, I am so noob Smiley

Cheers

Hey,

Here my take.

I have a few questions...

Are there too many masternodes? A: No
Is it possible that one day there will be too many? A: I don't think so. The MAX supply in all time should be around 15M, that make a physical limit of around 15,000 Max MasterNodes  (see next Answer)
Is it possible to limit the number of masternodes, A: There is a physical limit which is : (total coin supply) / 1000 : so 6,655 is the today's limit
and then have a mechanism for allowing a masternode owner to transfer the right to run a masternode to someone else? A: Sure you can, the same way you can "sell" a wallet or privatKey + MatnodePirvate Key (but I don't think it's the best solution as you can't be sure the seller didn't own backup or paper wallet... Best is to sell 1000Dash send them to buyer address and the buyer need to make his MN (about half an hour is enough)

Just thinking ahead.

The way this is supposed to work is that market forces should push coins out of Masternodes, and make them circulate.  If they don't circulate, there will be no users and no reason for being, then no reason to hold a masternode.  It should become a pressure cycle.  I don't think we need to worry about how many Dash are locked up, but rather how many people are using Dash for their transactions.  The more people who use Dash, the more coins will be on the liquidity side of things.  And the way to get that is to make Dash work, and work well for the users so they'll leave other systems and come to us.

Ultimately, we are a service.  The service Dash provides creates value.  The value doesn't just come from thin air, it's earned.  That's the thing most non-crypto people don't seem to understand.  Most cryptos are valuated by their potential to be useful.  Most cryptos have not become as useful as the valuation would imply in my opinion.  With the road map and past accomplishments of the Dash Team, I actually think Dash is very undervalued.  Mostly because the Dash Team understand this principle and are working to become extremely useful and easy to use to every person on the planet. It sends chills down my spine!  And yet very few people in this crypto space seems to understand the implications of that.  But that's very much OK because it allows Dash to grow organically and allows all of us to see, organize, evaluate, and plan with very few setbacks. (knock on wood)

Once you transfer funds into the wallet, click on the backup tab.   It then allows you to set a password.

Jaxx,Coinomi, and Exodus just allow transfers between different crytos(not fiat) plus offer safer storage of your funds.  You will still need a fiat converter to get from bitcoin to fiat.  Circle, Coinbase, Gemini can convert BTC to fiat in the US.  Others have mentioned alternatives for you for Euros.

You can also use a gift card service like gyft.com and transfer BTC to gift cards that you can spend.

Too bad Holger was unable to get his computer / internet to work Sad  Don't hear enough from him.  Yes Holger is a pretty normal name in Germany Tongue  And if you're a fan of Iron Giant like I am, the adult lead man was named Holger Cheesy

Seriously, the show made me so excited!!!  I can't wait to hear more!

Great show once again Amanda!

I had a look and it's a nice proof of concept! Yes, the shop owner registers a product, price and dash payment address. The user scans a product and pays to the merchants registered dash address. It would be a hassle to manually add every item in a store to this system, or have the whole inventory located at a third party for privacy and competitive reasons. But the concept shows the strength at using Dash as a currency in the real world. I think it could work nice if the store owner could run the system locally in the store and that it was integrated with the current inventory systems in place. Just imagine a random user walking in, scanning some groceries and showing the receipt to the cashier on the way out.

This is how most grocery stores work in Sweden, except the shopper uses a handheld IR-scanner and after a few initial checks, the shopper doesn't even need to interact with the cashiers or other working personnel at the store. Of course random verification checks occur to make sure that people aren't trying to cheat and steal things. Using the shopper's smartphone instead of a dedicated scanner would be a more cost efficient way to integrate this kind of functionality to a store chain.

Remember the Cryptsy "hack"?  Roll Eyes

http://www.coindesk.com/cryptsy-ceo-millions-digital-currency-steal/

Cryptsy CEO Paul Vernon may have stolen as much as $3.3m from the now-defunct digital currency exchange and destroyed evidence of his illicit actions.

That's according to new court documents from the ongoing class action lawsuit filed against the troubled industry exec. A report from court-appointed receiver James Sallah, published on 2nd August, details efforts to take control of assets tied to Cryptsy, most notably the digital currency holdings sought by the exchange's former customers.

The updates are the latest to follow Cryptsy's collapse in January, when after months of growing issues, Vernon blamed the closure on a previously undisclosed hack. At the time, Vernon claimed as much as $10m in customer liabilities. He later told CoinDesk that customers were misled in order to avoid a "panic".

Yet, court documents that surfaced at the time revealed that Cryptsy’s failure was predicted a month prior due to a lack of profit. That collapse ultimately sparked a class action lawsuit, and in April, a court approved an asset freeze that pushed the defunct exchange into receivership.

Now, that receiver is alleging millions of dollars worth of digital currency was taken from the exchange by Vernon over the course of its operation.

Sallah alleged:

"During that period of two years and seven months, Vernon transferred and converted over 1,100 bitcoin into currency in the amount of over $3.3 million. That $3.3 million-plus was deposited into Vernon’s and his now ex-wife’s (Defendant Lorie Ann Nettles’) joint bank account."

This amount included roughly $2.2m in bitcoin sold by way of Coinbase, and more than $600,000 in various digital currencies liquidated via other exchanges like Bittrex, BTER and CEX.io, the document states.

Vernon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Currently, Dash sits at cryptocurrency number seven as far as market cap, although it likely ranks second only to Bitcoin in terms of use as money, as other currencies like Ethereum, Steem, and Ethereum Classic are largely used for non-money purposes.

Litecoin, one of Bitcoin’s major digital cash competitors boasting an impressive listing of merchants, has largely fallen out of use, and many of those merchants no longer accept it as payment.
