Also miners and nodes act like a check and balance system. Miners vote with their hashrate by running the latest client. They comply because the model is working and making them money. Masternodes vote with their collateral, everyone's incentives are well aligned, is just a superior model from a game theory perspective.

But if things continue the way they've been going for the last 2 years, the market will get whiplash at some point. There will be zero slack and a fairly hefty upwards revaluation will kick in to get the markets liquid again.

How is this more probable than a crash in reserve market, i.e. massive selling of masternodes?

Precedent.

It hasn't happened in 2 years, even though there've been some major, high volume dumps. Have a look at this chart - I've overlaid the masternode growth with the currency market profile and sync'd the timescales. You can see at a glance that these markets are independent. Look what happened after the May 2014 spike - the price dumped but the collateral growth went in the opposite direction, so the very fact of the valuation decline was helping to grow the network which in turn made it more highly valued, thereby countering the price decline. So you have an increasing value in fundamentals combined with a continual liquidity reduction (due to bleeding of the currency market to reserve). It's only a matter of time therefore before they reach maximum tension and another revaluation.

There are some hints of masternode dumping, but if so, they simply changed hands - i.e. the collateral transited through the currency market and back into reserve under different ownership.

This is consistent with the 'real world' - i.e. that investors in risk assets are distinct groups from investors in fixed income products (bonds). Or at least one is considered a hedge for the other.

This was all part of Evan's monetary design - that the coin supply is self hedging in this way and that the network benefits if there is a price dump. (What I refer to as "Duffenomics" in this post here).

We are now seeing it in action and it appears to be working as planned if this last year and a half profile is anything to go by.

What kinds of issues or things does this community see MN's voting on? "The future direction of the coin" is a little vague, perhaps an example would help?

It also occurs to me that PoW miners/pool ops could conceivably veto (through non-compliance) the outcomes of MN votes. Is this a possibility?

Following this I'll leave you to the party. Thanks.

Hello,

We’re a startup looking for 1 or 2 really good C++ programmer that is
familiar with the bitcoin internals to help with a for-profit startup.

We will be able to provide more information about the project after signing
a non-compete/non-disclosure agreement. Our coin will be one of the truly
unique coins that are not just a clone of the original Bitcoin code. In
short the project will be a merge-mined altcoin that will provide a very
useful service to the whole crypto-coin ecosystem.

If you have added any features to Bitcoin or related technologies this is a
definite bonus. Please include information about the work you’re done in
the space.

We have detailed plans on how to implement it and the roles we are looking to fill. If interested please email eduffield82 at gmail.com with a description of your work experience and we’ll vett the applications and share our plans to see if you’re interested.

Thanks,

Evan & Kyle

that had to do with the setup of the Darkcoin Foundation i think, which later on got a much lesser role to play
(i think nowadays its only used for legal consultation).

well, masternodes in theory could vote over important issues like a block-raise with a yes or no .. so that will be a form of opinion gathering.
Or people could setup projects to help Dash in certain area's and ask for specific budgets.

Superblocks is how Dash stores the budgets on the blockchain, its scheduled once a month.
