I had the same gut reaction, but Evan said nothing would be published (for anyone else to see) unless you choose to do so (which you might if you're a merchant).  Otherwise, you can keep all your information encrypted, which is simply a user name, password and email address (the most identifiable item)  I understand that any time the network contacts you through email, the email provider will be able to tell you have a Dash account, and to me that's a problem.

So I know they understand this and are figuring out the details still, but for now, to avoid sybil attacks, they need emails.  I think there are privacy oriented email accounts where the servers don't store anything, but I don't know exactly how they work or who does it :/

You guys are talking about user accounts like they will be mandatory. Is there any reason to believe they will be?

Masternodes are down, looks like some people are looking for quick profits.  The only thing I can say is from experience, if you want them back, you may end up paying more for them!  Good luck Cheesy

Well, it's live on mainnet right now, and there is a dual system going, so maybe it will never be mandatory?

Yeah, the Evolution demo ED gave earlier today.

I watched it and I don't remember anything about it being mandatory. The user accounts are trading addresses in order to send transactions. Why couldn't you just send to an address without using an account?

Honestly, I don't know.  I saw a demo vid and that's what I got out of it.

My understanding is that Evolution is in the 3rd tier so the 1st and 2nd ones will provide the same functionality they provide today.
Evolution is optional as in Paypal is optional.

That would be epic.  Where can I read that officially?

I suspect, though, that all light wallets in the future will be based on the 3rd tier, and that if you want to work directly with the blockchain, you'll need to have a full client, with a full blockchain.  It's going to become a pain in the butt.  On the other hand, when I opened electrum, it did allow me to choose where to connect, or else use auto connect, so I suppose once all masternodes are running on this thing, that we could choose our own masternodes to connect to so that we know we're not being spied on, but that's only good for MN holders.

The whole third tier is designed around having some sort of pseudonym on the network, so yes to use Evolution it would be mandatory. However, nothing is really finalized at this point. I'm still really early in the process of designing the system. Was there some problem with have a permanent pseudonym? If it were mandatory, that would mean you couldn't use evolution without an account on the network, but it doesn't mean anything you do on the network with that account would be identifiable. It's just a means of connecting people who want to be connected basically.

That slide is a lie.  Mobile Bitcoin wallets don't all necessarily rely on "a centralized gateway."

EG, I can tell my phone's SPV client to use a full node I run myself.

It's rather telling that Evan The Instaminer needs to lie about how bad/terrible/no good Bitcoin is, just to make Dash seem better in comparison.

Yeah, Evan, could we just make the whole social networking thing optional? Some of us would prefer using Dash only as a currency for what it inherently is.. Btw thank you for all of this and your ongoing commitment. Smiley

What if we had our very own email service distributed across the MN network??
What if as well as providing a standard 2FA via said email, we utilised an extra level of encrypted authentication to run alongside it? Overkill maybe.
