Apparently The DAO / ETH hacked??? - shoulda stayed in DASH All of these new technologies like DAO, Lisk, Waves are such rushed code to get the hype and $$$ up they arent secure or have not withstood the test of time like BTC DASH.... Common sense peoples! The situation with DAO/ETH shows us why DASH's "good enough" approach to security is not adequate, nor acceptable. Today we're seeing some reasons why Good Crypto is meticulously peer-reviewed and cautiously deployed, not just half-baked and rushed out. If I had exposure to a coin with homespun newfangled crypto (like DASH) I'd be very nervous right now.... Sure idiot - its based from the bitcoin code which is infinitely more secure, even more so than XMR. Dash code has been reviewed by security experts and been around for years, still unbroken....nice try fool. The DAO, Lisk etc....was developed in what, 3-4 months of rushed coding to meet hype demand. Dash was forked from Peercoin or Litecoin or whatever ages ago. The original code didn't include cruft and kludges like Masternodes, Budget Blocks, and DuffSend (IE broken CoinJoin). Dash has all of one (Kristov) positive security review, back in the Darkcoin Age of 2014. Meanwhile, dozens of security/crypto experts (including the creator of CoinJoin) have offered negative security reviews of Darkcoin, and recently, Dash. But the negative opinions which fail to confirm your bias don't count, right? When it all goes DAO and ends in tears, don't say I didn't warn you.

Common sense peoples! Wow Can someone explain a little more what happened and what is going on? blind panic Millions of eth taken from a flaw through DAO, the DAO went down by 62% first and then shortly after eth went down 34% https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/ether-price-plumets-ethereum-dao-may-be-hacked/''Griff Green, spokesman for slockit, the creators of the Dao, stated on the DAO slack channel:
“The DAO is being attacked. It has been going on for 3-4 hours, it is draining ETH at a rapid rate. This is not a drill.''Now how many bitcoin is that, and will it be dumped onto the exchanges for a quick profit? Edit: methinks, the hacker may have more to dump and is waiting for the price to climb back up, anyone want to check the blockchain and do the numbers

Dash is 27.3 times faster with syncing and updating than Bitcoin and 93.7 times faster than Monero. Bitcoin (v0.11.0) has a Tao ratio 11.2% faster than bitcoin (v0.10.0) release. Dash (v.0.12.0.49) = Tao sync ratio = 0.15 seconds / hour of update || Dash (v.0.11.2.23) = Tao sync ratio = 0.24 seconds / hour of update. V12 versus V11 speedup = +36.5% Bitcoin (v.0.11.0) = Tao sync ratio = 4.14 seconds / hour of update || Monero (v.0.41.1) = Tao sync ratio = 14.2 seconds / hour of update

But the eth have been dumped, so that means bitcoin and maybe faster coins (no hint needed), doesn't it depend how much he can get out before anyone noticed. What he should have done was have multiple accounts, then the withdraw limit is ok and can do many at the same time. Edit: and there are many exchanges..

If you mean in general, DASH has fared well so far over the last 2.x years and has a brains trust the size of a planet behind it. So....on a risk based decision, one would think not too bad a proposition. Remember, like the universe, the white hat vs black hat security game is infinite Thanks Security is important to a coin. In evolution security should be checked with the greatest care.

OMG I can't believe they're planning a hardfork to "unsteal" the loot.
Thats usually the deathnell for any coin. But what are they forking - just the DAO ?

It's certainly not 'autonomous' if someone used its rules to pay them self and then humans come in and reverse that. It's not self-governing at that point.

It’s shutting down but as no ether was stolen and no ether was spent, nothing was lost.”

I agree. All the eth-heads have been talking about how superior ETH is and how it's going to replace Bitcoin and all that. I grant that it's amazing technology, but it is still relatively untested. The ecosystem is brand new, a lot of the "DAOs" and "tokens" are bound to fail (which will rightly or wrongly reflect poorly on ETH), and it is too complex. Most of all, though, is the fact that BTC has stood the test of time and in seven years, no security flaws have been found. Dash is forked from BTC, so that makes me feel much more comfortable. *I realize this wasn't a security flaw in the Ethereum protocol itself, but the point still stands, there COULD be flaws that are presently unknown. It's brand new. It hasn't been thoroughly probed for years.

That's like a hardfork to "unsteal" the Mt. Gox funds!!
