My spider senses felt he was over doing it with the old reverse psychology.

Check this.

LOL, all I can say is it's easy to fool some of the people some of the time (Gavin - bless his soul) but not all of the people all of the time.

Don't be hard on Gavin, there are so many ways to manipulate, and this Wright character, being purported to be a seasoned scammer, will also know how to emotionally manipulate - and undoubtedly will have prepared for that, after all the forum is public to day one Smiley

Of course there is also the possibility that Gavin knows he isn't Satoshi and this is part of some big play for classic to take over and replace core. Look out for 'Satoshi' recommending big blocks in the near future.

So are blockstream going for a power grab?  The way they are behaving these guys are looking like they are on the fast track for the dark-side.

Maybe there is more at stake in the old blocksize debate than appears to outsiders.

Maybe people on both sides are now prepared to sacrifice principles, reputations and careers over it. Maybe the whole CW/Satoshi thing is somehow rooted in the tensions of the past year surrounding the debate over the future of bitcoin.

I still can't decide who's playing on what side and what's a single bluff and what's a double bluff though. Need to see how it all plays out then people's interests usually become clear.

Maybe.

If it is all part of a big power play then it seems very likely to me that CW would side with Gavin and Classic, because Gavin has seemed to be the main person who verified his identity and because as coaex pointed out the real Satoshi said things which make it very believable that he would be on the side of raising the block size now. Of course this is all wild speculation and probably not true though, and in any case it looks like nobody believes he is Satoshi so none of it will matter.

Oh right yeah, I forgot about that. Saying it would still be decentralized because a few banks could club together to maintain decentralization by running nodes on supercomputers or something like that? Very dodgy.

If you were Satoshi and had half a billion dollars in assets, but knew that touching them would make their price drop by 80-90%, what would you do? You would almost have to reveal yourself publicly, if for no other reason than to reassure the community that you aren't going to sell everything all at once.

I think I would gradually introduce myself to the world in much the same way CW has...

I would make a case based on circumstantial evidence that, upon further examination, doesn't appear too reliable. But at least it gets people thinking that maybe, just maybe, Satoshi is still alive and could theoretically move his coins. Among my circumstantial evidence would be a trust agreement showing that I can't move the coins until 2020, so that people don't freak out if for some reason they do believe me.

Then I would meet privately with some trusted community members and get their imprimatur, then post some shady shit on my blog. Gets people thinking even harder, but the rest of the community still doesn't believe.

Then I would move a coin from an early block which can't definitively be linked to Satoshi. More people would believe me, but the majority would still say "somebody else probably mined that one."

Then maybe I'd get different trusted developers to come for a private meeting, and sign something with Genesis but forbid them from releasing the signature...like CW did with Gavin for Block 1.

Then I'd just keep going until eventually I proved myself publicly and announced that my coins are locked down for the next four years, and that even after that I will only be able to spend X coins per year.

If he does, then wow...

Remember, Block 1 was not necessarily mined by Satoshi. I wonder why he isn't using the Genesis block? My guess would be that somehow he either mined or acquired the keys for Block 1 from somebody (and is not Satoshi), or he is Satoshi and Dave Kleinman maintained the privkey for Genesis and never gave it to CW.

Interesting take on it.

If CW is the real Satoshi then I think its going to be happy days for altcoins.
