Ok, so I haven't received any submissions for the logo & art bounty, and the bounty amount is close to what's required to pay for a crowdsourced logo design at somewhere like http://99designs.com.au/ so I might pull that bounty and organise a designer cage fight.

I disagree with anyone who suggests a digital good is a store of wealth. There is a fine line between a tool of payment ie currency and a store of wealth. Nevertheless i love darkcoin for what it is, a great tool to make anonymous or semi anonymous  financial transactions.

It all breaks down to whether one also thinks a piece of paper called "cash" is also a good store of wealth. For most countries which experience high inflation, some digital coins can preserve people's wealth far better than their national currency. After all, digital coins are valued in paper. So, it's all an absurd situation. If real money for transactions was gold and silver, like 50-100 years ago, that would be another issue altogether.

Thats my point, a store of wealth is something that does/can not loose value overnight except in a very very rare condition like a house that gets badly damaged in an earthquake.
Gold , silver and other hard assets have proven to be a constant store of value/wealth over a long distance of time, too bad you cant ship gold or silver anonymously over the interwebs. Here darkcoin comes into play allowing for example person a to transfer the equity into darkcoin and convert it back to hard assets in a completely different place, and best of all nobody can tell who made the transfer.

What is the time frame on the transfer you suggest?

Less than a day for every transaction entering the system is a payment protocol. More than a day is a store of value.

Id say everything that takes longer than required is forex speculation in cryptocurrencies.
Cryptocurrencies are forex like other currencies. No doubt, in the correct circumstances a currency can flourish but it is not coupled to any hard asset, its a tool to conduct payment in the first place.

I'd say what Satoshi points out in his paper on attackers:

Quote
If a greedy attacker.....He ought to find it more profitable to play by the rules, such rules that favour him with more new coins than everyone else combined, than to undermine the system and the validity of his own wealth.

Satoshi used gold miners as an analogy for processing blocks (gold is a store of value) and he goes on to reference a diminishing wealth (an inference to a store of value) if the system is attacked.

I insist in DRK potential as a way to store wealth not necessarily when the alternative is fiat under a well established democratic government. In that situation fiat would actually IMHO would be better, but when you have regulated currencies where you can't by law exchange your currency for dollars like Venezuela or access is very limited or there is a black market with huge rates. Or when you have huge amounts of cash in countries like Mexico and Colombia that you cant easily move something like a DRK with the limitations and risks a crypto currency has would be a way better alternative. And I am banking in getting some attention from those sectors once the coin is well established with all due respect to people that are less liberal about the potential use of the coin.

Can you also try to "fit" in the bounty a professional-looking splash logo for the wallet? (the screen that appears prior to opening the wallet)

Bitcoin is using something like that: http://s1.postimg.org/aigukf5bz/splash_bit.jpg

...and we are running a modified litecoin one (the blue sky with the leather wallet), but it'd be nicer to have our own design.

That would be a really good idea. It would have a lot of talented artists trying their best and it gives us/you the freedom to choose the best one.

And I agree with mannie pointing out, that they are a few better wordpress' out there. Especially this one could work really well for dark

I bet cryptocurrencies can become more desirable for wealth preservation than 50-60% of highly-inflated national currencies out there. Americans or Europeans with hard currency like the USD and the EUR cannot *really* understand what inflation feels like. We had the drachma over here (greece) in the 80s, official inflation was like >20% and your only option, since you were barred from buying gold or USD, was to deposit the money in a bank or buy a government bond and get an interest rate close to the inflation rate just to keep your capital near what it was. Alternatively you could do investments all the time in businesses, real estate etc - to keep the money moving and hoping it will multiply itself.

This type of use for cryptocurrencies is vastly underrated in the western world of hard currencies.

There are great joomla/wordpress  frameworks out there, no real need to purchase a template.

That would be awesome.

I'd like to thank eduffield and the other developers for this critically important evolution in virtual currency. DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash." - Child Harold - February 28, 2014

No, I think it should work with the same login/pass unless there is a problem with the account. Personally, I didn't re-register and I still use the same as in the old site.

http://darkaddress.n00bsys0p.co.uk/

Hey there fible. That's my code, and yes it is. I've tested all the features, including BIP38 encryption.

You can easily check the source against bitcoinpaperwallet's to see that literally all I've done is add artwork and the settings specific to DRK. You can even check those settings against the Darkcoin source code to make sure I haven't done anything dodgy. **I'm sure there's someone here capable of confirming that it's legit.** If you find it of use, feel free to fire a tip my way at XgzYEhmfofeS3eGCZBeArDW6mdwoRVpQHy :-)

NOTE: Do not use the copy on the site there for anything but testing. It's just there so people can have a play with it. For creating a real paper wallet, you should download the source code, and run it locally on a LiveCD, or some other provably safe medium disconnected entirely from the Internet. Also, my software is provided with the same license (or lack thereof) as the original software.

I've not posted in this thread before, so congrats to everyone on DarkCoin.

DarkSend is coming along well and this is a great feature for this project and also for using crypto currency more safely in the future.

I was intending to start a 'Tor Enclave' project for Anoncoin, however I'm a fan of CPU coins and some 'default' features of DarkCoin actually make it more suited to network connectivity when using Tor.

So, I have set-up 2 DarkCoin nodes which are running as dual stack i.e. they have connectivity through Tor as well as through the clear (regular) internet.

Here is the darkcoin.conf settings to enable connectivity via the Tor Browser Bundle.

Note that the Tor Browser Bundle uses Socks 5 port 9150 instead of 9050.

Code:
gen=0
socks=5
proxy=127.0.0.1:9150
maxconnections=8
addnode=33rkrxcfoeduijtb.onion
addnode=hgyvmhd7p2ihasu2.onion

I think this method of connection is preferable to using;  -tor=<ip:port>  and  -onlynet=<net>   although thats up to the user.

See: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=309716.msg3324942#msg3324942

Re: Official Anoncoin Information, FAQ & Description thread. [Moderated] - What/Howto Tor.

See: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Running_Bitcoin

Connectivity can be vastly improved both for the user and within the Tor network by using the following config. (torrc) with the Tor Browser Bundle.

This is a fast / censorship resistant config. which has been slightly adapted to maximize DarkCoin connectivity through Tor.

See: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=331077.0

Advanced Tor Browser Bundle config. - Anti-Spying - Anti-ECHELON - Anti-FiveEyes

An adapted version of: xeronet Torrc - v3.5f - 'fastest' version

DarkCoin Torrc - Tor Browser Bundle conf. suggested additions.

The main additions are; ExcludeSingleHopRelays 0 , AllowSingleHopCircuits 1 and the addition of DarkCoin port 9999 as a LongLivedPort.

Please note that these settings are advised for DarkCoin connectivity, although potentially enforce making single hop connections via Tor when browsing, which can actually lower your anonymity when using Tor for browsing, although making Tor very fast.

These single hop settings ensure connectivity with the hidden_service nodes that are using these settings, hence referred to as a 'Tor enclave'.

See: https://www.torproject.org/docs/tor-manual.html.en

"ExcludeSingleHopRelays 0|1

    This option controls whether circuits built by Tor will include relays with the AllowSingleHopExits flag set to true. If ExcludeSingleHopRelays is set to 0, these relays will be included. Note that these relays might be at higher risk of being seized or observed, so they are not normally included. Also note that relatively few clients turn off this option, so using these relays might make your client stand out. (Default: 1)"

"LongLivedPorts PORTS

    A list of ports for services that tend to have long-running connections (e.g. chat and interactive shells). Circuits for streams that use these ports will contain only high-uptime nodes, to reduce the chance that a node will go down before the stream is finished. Note that the list is also honored for circuits (both client and service side) involving hidden services whose virtual port is in this list. (Default: 21, 22, 706, 1863, 5050, 5190, 5222, 5223, 6523, 6667, 6697, 8300)"

"EnforceDistinctSubnets 0|1

    If 1, Tor will not put two servers whose IP addresses are "too close" on the same circuit. Currently, two addresses are "too close" if they lie in the same /16 range. (Default: 1)"

"AllowSingleHopCircuits 0|1

    When this option is set, the attached Tor controller can use relays that have the AllowSingleHopExits option turned on to build one-hop Tor connections. (Default: 0)"

SERVER ONLY OPTIONS:

"AllowSingleHopExits 0|1

    This option controls whether clients can use this server as a single hop proxy. If set to 1, clients can use this server as an exit even if it is the only hop in the circuit. Note that most clients will refuse to use servers that set this option, since most clients have ExcludeSingleHopRelays set. (Default: 0)"

~ Which is what makes connectivity faster as the exit nodes supports single hops on port 9999 and also treats the connection as a LongLivedPort.  Cool

Tor hidden services provide much better anonymity for the user of the service than for the hidden service operator.

My thinking is that this adds a very fast layer of 'mix' anonymity for DarkCoin users in addition to using (or when using) DarkSend. The Tor Enclave also reduces the issues with P2P connectivity over the Tor network regarding [scrubbed] connections etc. This is ofc less of an issues of DarkCoin than it is for Tor nodes and the Tor Network as a whole.

Unlike Anoncoin (or other crypto coins) port 9999 is actually allowed in the majority of Tor Entry and Exit servers already within the existing recommended Reduced Exit Policy as:

ExitPolicy accept *:9999      # distinct   Cool

See: https://blog.torproject.org/running-exit-node - Tips for Running an Exit Node with Minimal Harassment.

See: https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/wiki/doc/ReducedExitPolicy - Reduced Exit Policy.

I will continue to work on and update the config. and perhaps start another thread or add it to the existing Torrc thread.

If anyone knows of additional working DarkCoin Tor hidden_service .onion addresses - please send me a PM.

Also, some static IP addresses for existing nodes and pools would be useful for increased connectivity.

Thanks!

Is there anything going on with the network? My wallet is not syncing and is now 2 hrs out. I have restarted the wallet but it doesn't help. Have >5 active connections.

Are you sure you have the current wallet? It should be 9.0.0. There was a recent hard fork, and if you haven't run your wallet in a while, it could be that.

Is this paper wallet generator legit?

http://darkaddress.n00bsys0p.co.uk/

Hey,
 Much appreciated, and will definitely send a tip you way if I jump it this, it's a great addition you have made Smiley.

Pablo.

Thanks, it's hugely appreciated :-D I've actually just noticed that for some reason the front artwork for DRK isn't displaying on the site. Will see if I can work out what's wrong.
