I think we should brainstorm about how to get a FIAT <-> NEM service going. Any ideas ?
PayPal shuts you down before you can say "new econom... aaaan your shut down.
If you wan't to work with wire transfer you have to go through tons of legal issues.
Physically sending the money takes way to long.
I'm not sure how many countries have internet banking that offers fast money transfer? In the UK and it would appear Holland a company called Bittylicious acts as a broker and escrows the crypto-currency for fiat. If I want to buy Bitcoin for fiat I enter an amount of Bitcoin and get a fiat price in pounds. If I'm happy then Bittylicious present the seller bank details, I use these details on my internet banking person to person fast payment system. The fast payment system normally completes in a few minutes but can take upto a maximum of 2 hours. Bittylicious (somehow) monitors the payment and registers when it is complete, they then transfer the Bitcoins and again wait for at least 1 confirmation. Maybe this could be an option to attract new people into NEM straight from fiat? https://bittylicious.com/KC

One of the major reasons why Bitcoin is so big is because in order to buy any other coins you must first buy Bitcoins. If we could somehow get lucky enough for a service that would allow us to bypass Bitcoins, and if we can somehow get some mainstream support, Nem could be just as big as Bitcoin. That's an extremely positive hope though.
If we were so lucky, I think calling it Nem Coin would have a much larger effect in getting across to people who never heard of cryptocoins. If the average person just read Nem, most likely they will move on and not give it much thought, but when you add the coin then people who are hearing it for the first time will have a better idea of what it's about. So when I mention the coin outside of these threads I always say Nem coin.
There's also Google. When you Google Nem, you'll find search results for other entities, but when you Google Nem coin, you find Nem coin. Even if Nem becomes big, in the future they will still have to compete with these other entities.
It might also be good to start differentiating new "coins" from bitcoin. That bitcoin uses coin, does not require all additional cryptocurrencies to use coin as well. My concern is for people to instantly have an idea of what Nem is when the come across it by chance. For example in a comment section on YouTube or on a major mainstream website. We don't have to be completely different just for the sake of being different, especially when in reality they are both cryptocoins.

I can't believe that by simply asking how Nem differs from Nxt it caused this reaction. I'm not trolling. I still don't understand how Nem is different from Nxt. I heard that Nem is different because you're translating the code. I don't think that's innovative. I think POI is a flawed concept. I'm not sure what is meant by "different types of node", maybe someone can enlighten me.
The only thing you did by removing me as a stakeholder was to consolidate the currency further. The good thing about Nxt's initial distribution is that at that time hardly anyone was interested and therefore I believe the stakes belong to different people. After the clones started and distribution was meted out simply by an "interested" comment, you had a lot of bitcointalk accounts posting "interested" that are controlled by the same individual. This isn't my biggest concern with Nem, but I don't think it is good.
My main concern is that Nem and Nxt have the exact same stated goal: "The creation of a new economic movement." I full-heartedly support this objective. I do not believe a division of resources best serves this purpose.
I also don't like to see people giving away their Nxt for nothing, which at this time, is what they have done. They have given it away for the promise of something in the future. When I posted "interested", I didn't know that Nem was going to start collecting Nxt and Btc. I think this collection is unethical, because I can't see anything worthy of a dev fund.
I try to be honest and fair in all my dealings. My intent is to strengthen "the new economic movement" not destroy it. I know the true economic movement was started with NXT by BCNext and I will support it to the end. Remember, I am the one that stated, "Do not mistake us as just another cryptocurrency. We are a movement."
You are trolling, because you don't answer the important questions, which people asked you (which I won't repeat for you). Do that and I take this back.

Hello all! I suggest using this logo for NEM. This is not a coin, it is necessary to deviate from a circular shape. VERY nice! I really, really like this simple design. It's pretty technical/neutral though and not really positive/green/"utopian", if you know what im saying.

With the large community of NEM it should not be difficult to convince some exchanges to adopt NEM I may be wrong however... I have no idea why NXT is not on cryptsy. Does anybody know why? I think I do not need to wait for favors from strangers, and do your first exchange with the free exchange IT to other crypto. 4000 we will have more people and ... At first everyone will have to sacrifice some of their capital in NEM and give it away for free to many people ... I think I'll support the developers with my stake. Holding only a minor part of it for myself. As a fact I'm not a developer, so my vision is to support the whole ecosystem, NEM; NXT and others, so it can become stronger and stronger. There will be opportunities which I can support as a non technical guy.

Let's focus on cooperation and innovation instead of envy and hatred as that are also NEM's core concepts and principles. This is the part that stands out the most for me. Well done UP!

I agree with most of the comments. For most of the BTC clones; the dependency on BTC is endemic. For NXT; I noticed that it is still problematic because, while the value of the coin respecting BTC increases; the value respecting any fiat currency (which at the end, are the currencies that can allow you to buy stuff and transfer value to the cryptocurrencies) is going down or it is keep in best cases. This is not good since it makes cryptocurrencies only useful as a high risk invesment instrument more proper for speculation. This is at the opposite of the NEM concept. IMO, the questions to solve are: 1. How to get independency from BTC 2. How to transfer value from the real world to NEM in a direct way (so then merchant can use directly) 3. How to establish an easy fiat-NEM exchange that goes in line with point 2
I think it is important to think how to solve these issues before launching or, at least to have some ideas how to do it. I am confident that the dev team can work in a solution but, as a community I think we need to discuss these issues
So. So much of this.

1. Independency from BTC will be only achieved when you can exchange fiat directly into NEM without BTC in the middle. We should as a community now think about funding a site that offers that possibility. Or maybe contacting Graviton about when is he about to implement fiat in dgex... 2. Most merchants will accept NEM only if we get enough buzz around it. As dogecoin can be used to buy real life stuff, can NEM sure as hell be used to buy stuff! It just depends on how aggressive is our marketing plan. Oh an by the way there should be a marketing plan comprised for NEM, so anyone up for the task go ahead! 3. I don't think there is a easy way. The easiest could be to get NEM into an already existing exchange. Trying to come up with an exchange with ourselves is something that I fear will be a horrible task. But if anyone feels up for the task he should go ahead by all means! Otherwise Graviton, I believe, is trying to get dgex into accepting fiat.. Maybe he could do it or then we should contact some other exchanges. But realistically we wont have a chance into getting into any exchange without donations, because NEM will be a new and volatile coin with no guarantees.

simplicity is better, if you have to try to work out what it actually says, or the meaning, then I think we are going in the wrong direction. Simple but unique is the answer.

I agree 100% with this. It should be our focus right now when we have the time Nem into fiat? One possible way is to follow the localbitcoins.com example. The local (insert coin here) .com is already a well known name. So if anyone with the tech know-how is able to make such a site, that could be a small step in the right direction. Possibly.

I temporarily took 2Kool4Skewl from NEM stakeholder list as I understand that he does not want to be there. In the first 20 pages of the fundraising, many people do not entirely understand about the scope as well as purpose of NEM so it was easy just to post "interested" there by a mistake. Contrary to what used to be in the first page of the fundraising thread , NEM do offer refund after the announcement of detail development plan (probably in 2 weeks or so) so if someone does not feel they fit in with NEM community, they can leave voluntarily.
As written in ournem.com, at this stage NEM is first of all a community of which people share a certain ideas and goals and we going to build NEM/ Nemcoin as our decentralized payment platform together as we go along. I see no reason to keep people that are unhappy with NEM and this approach. There are no coins to share yet so it is not like we are taking anything from anyone. If 2Kool4Skewl wants to join back in, just say so before I make the unified stakeholder list and I will add him in.
The majority of NEM funding comes from Bitcoin and only about 30% of NEM stakeholders appear in NXT discussion before (see an excellent statistics by newcn) so I see NXT and NEM having quite a different demographics, also different technology and purposes. While I think there is a certain aspect of competition between the two blockchain, we can learn from each others as well. Some are developers of both NXT and NEM and they work across the aisle and I think that is a good thing. It will help advancing experiments and innovations in more directions. Compared to Bitcoin and other POW coins, NXT and NEM have more similarity and we can join force to emphasize our strength in a green economical network and highlight the problems with the computational arm-races used by Bitcoin and other POW coins. Let's focus on cooperation and innovation instead of envy and hatred as that are also NEM's core concepts and principles.
BTW, we appreciate active participants much more than passive ones/ investors. So contact me if you want to help in any way. Thanks.
Well said. Especially in Japan, crypto-currencies have been marred by previous scandals and almost no one trusts them. Creating a "clean" currency will appeal to more people and make the world a better place.

I dont like all these corners in the logo,
we should find and create something without corner, cause corner looks to aggresiv ( even in chinese feng shui they feel corner acting to restless). If we use more roundings in the logo it fells much friendlier and positve, the right mix with white/silver/gold and a creative abstract symbol could be the desired target.
