ALL PPLNS users, you can thank me for those 5 blocks in the last 20 minutes.  At 10:02 I started moving off PPLNS and finished moving off by 10:17.  In the last 19 minutes the pool found 5 blocks after going dry for almost 1.5 hours.

What are the chances of that OOC  Cheesy

At BTCGuild's current average hashrate over the last day (~26000 Ghps) you'd expect a block solved every 1268 seconds. in a given 90 minute period, the chance of exactly one block being solved is 6%, not too unusual.

In a given 19 minute period, the chance of exactly four blocks being solved is 1.1%, unusual, but not impossible.

Make of it what you will Wink

Eleuthria, any chance that you might publish estimates of the pool "luck" rate somewhere on the site (maybe the pool stats page might be a good place)??

A dumbed down way to look at luck over the last 2-3 days is to look at the last 100 closed shares of PPLNS earnings (near the bottom) and compare that to the PPS rate (published at the top).

PPLNS should make a tad more than PPS rates (currently PPS is 0.0000030952695289) and presently the last 100 PPLNS shifts avg 0.0000027004029027), so roughly 270/310 = 87% of expected PPS earnings, so despite the lower fee PPLNS is really lagging the last week.  It should be noted the week before this past week the pool did really well.

I'm guessing once eleuthria can get the getwork serves taken care of or killed off he might have time to put in more fancy graphs and luck info with CDF.

blockexplorer.com, though it is also behind once in a while.  Best way to know if blockchain.info is out of date is to run your local client and compare the most recent block number with what blockchain.info shows.

So when I left BTC Guild yesterday at 10PM PDT the previous 24 rate per share was 0.00000255177.

The 24 hours I left and went to OzCoin the pool avg rate is about 0.000004389 and climbing (some of the unfinished shifts show 33 blocks found).

In the last 24 hours I was there 2 shifts made it over PPS rate barely, since leaving almost every shift is above PPS rate.

OK, who's going to tip me to stay away from BTC Guild PPLNS  Shocked  Wink

EU-Stratum seems to be getting attacked, looking into the problem right now.

UPDATE:  EU-Stratum back online.  Website seemed to get hit too [long loads/504 errors], but things are returning to normal.

Default Payment Method Changed

All newly created workers now default to the PPLNS payment method, which in the long run should net miners higher earnings, at the cost of variance when evaluated in the short term.  This is a lower fee, and shares transaction fees from mined blocks.  Workers currently set to PPS are unaffected, this only changes workers made since the default was changed about 30 minutes ago.

51% Status Update

BTC Guild's percentage of the network has not changed much when viewed over the last 2016 blocks (http://blockorigin.pfoe.be).  However, pool luck has not been good the last week for BTC Guild outside of a few big bursts of blocks.  Paired with the attack on Slush's pool yesterday, it is possible that the pool will breach the 40% mark sometime in the next week, especially if we have good luck.  This is a reminder to all users that PPS fees will be temporarily raised from 5% to 7% in the event that the pool goes above 40% of the network.  The change will be implemented as follows:

1) Workers that have already been mining since the latest difficulty change will stay at 5% (PPS ONLY).
2) Workers that have not mined since the difficulty change will begin mining at 7% fee (PPS ONLY).
3) After the next difficulty change, all workers will be mining at 7% fee (PPS ONLY).

PPS rate down ~15%?

The PPS rate is based on the current difficulty:

Rate = (25 * (1 - fee)) / difficulty

Or for current numbers:

25 * (1 - 0.05) / 8974296 = 0.0000026464471419

And yes, since the difficulty just jumped by about 15%, the PPS rate dropped by about 15%.

Some minor maintenance being done to some tables of the database related to worker speed graphs.  Your page my hang if you try to load the charts page in the next 10-20 minutes.

Somewhat related issue to the DB maintenance on the charts history:  The PPLNS share collection script got stuck and did not close shift 5062 at the appropriate interval.  The shift is being closed right now.  This shift will have roughly 2.5x as many shares as a normal shift, and will receive proportionally more of the block rewards over the shift maturation time as a result.  Sorry for the error, I've just been going through a lot of scripts again trying to keep the site moving quickly even when the heavy duty scripts are running in the background.

EDIT:  Website temporarily offline while this script is cleaned up.

Website back up and out of maintenance mode.  Some lag is expected right now as a few cleanup scripts are being run and major "on the hour" scripts are running at the same time.

Hi

I dont like making this post, but it needs to be said. WTF are you miners doing giving one pool all this hashpower ? At current a 51% attack is possible, I respect eleuthria and can respect that you trust him. But this is just not acceptable, what if someone managed to compromise the pool server.. or held eleuthria at gunpoint. You are playing with the very existense of bitcoin. Disperse to other pools, immediately, please.
