When India chased a total of 200 there was Rohit Sharma in the team and can take on any bowlers and if Sri Lanka makes a huge target like that then it will be a difficult task.

Perhaps that is the reason why they are not giving any chances for the younger players, even against weak teams such as Sri Lanka. India would be happy the way the team composite of new and senior players have performed and also the bowlers did an fantastic job of picking the wickets at regular interval . I think now more couple of youngsters could be given a chance in final T20 match as India lead by 1-0

I beg to differ from your analysis, i see things slightly differently.

Dhawan - He didn't play much cricket after the World cup due to injury and he's technically out from the Test cricket for good. So match practice is necessary for him.

KL Rahul - He's out from the Test Cricket and management trying hard to fit him at the top order in ODI/T-20. Rohit is taking rest so he is the first choice for opener and Sanju/Manish are middle order batsmen.

Kohli - His presence in the squad is debatable. one can argue that he should skip and give chance to younger (Sanju) player or completely opposite that he should play the T-20 match because Rohit is not plying/ Practice for T-20 world cup. i don't mind if he skips any T-20 series along with Rohit (if its possible). In their absense Shreyas Iyer can easily manage captaincy in T-20.

^^^^ I agree with JSRAW. Sreyas Iyer can be tested as the T20 captain. He is young, and he has captained his side in the IPL. He is one of the players, who has the potential and caliber to become the backbone of the Indian batting lineup in the future. Also, I agree on Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul. For now, these players need some match practice.

That's a unique point picked by JSRAW there^^ . I recall Iyer doing so well in DC(Delhi Capitals) last year that out of form Gambhier (then) decided to step down as captain and gave it to Iyer to lead. Though DC didn't did well but Iyer played some good knocks alone for DC.

It will be interesting to see if he gets tested as captain but it will be hard I guess. Maybe in scenario if management decides to test whole young lineup  then naturally he might get tested.

It is a competitive sport and players will be trying to secure their place and there are a lot of events where they can showcase their talent in India because of IPL and if they are able to perform really well then they will be selected and if they perform consistently then how come they will be replaced if a senior players wanted to come back. If senior players are not performing then they will be replaced as they are in the team as long as they perform.

Context is important in any discussion IMHO. One has to be retard if s-he undermining player like Virat in the modern cricket so it doesn't come to cricketing knowledge.

My response was for " should senior players give chance to young players or not?" in case of Virat when i say "debatable". I am not questioning Virat's capabilities but searching for any possible scenario. If he's available or not for the T-20 format (historically he takes rest from low profile series, that's a case at least in last 2 years) Hope this clear your confusion?

Whether the fans like it or not, Kohli is going to be the captain for anther 6-7 years. So that means that Rohit Sharma would never get a chance to be the full time captain of India (unless he is planning to continue playing until he is 45 years old). So it will be better if the BCCI groom some of the players who are in their mid 20s such as Sreyas Iyer as the replacement to Kohli.

In next 5-10 years Not only Rishabh but there are good amount of new blood who possess the ability to lead the Team India in near future. Shryes Iyer, Prithwi Shaw, Shubham Gill comes to top of my mind as of now.

The same was told about Sourav Ganguly one of the best one day captain for India but, he got replaced by Dhoni very swiftly. You cannot underestimate these youngsters. And secondly, I can't remember Pant captaining any team in the IPL or the Ranji Trophy. Well.. he is young and he may be a future prospect. Rishabh Pant is too inexperienced to be considered for any future captaincy role. Also, from his behavior, it doesn't look like he can handle pressure situations. Virat is aggressive, but he doesn't lose his composure when he gets angry or irritated. The same can't be said about some of the other members in the present playing XI.
