hopefully we will have IPL in June if this is possible any comment about this from any Indian?

Not possible...

Or at least tough call as almost every team has packed schedule after May so i don't see how BCCI could do that. Aus, England, SA, Windies all playing international cricket so it doesn't make sense.

Reading the situation till now and aftereffects it seems that IPL may be cancelled as scheduling later in the year would be not really a feasible as other countries have their already scheduled tournaments. So they would not be cancelling it because of IPL. Now if they still want to go ahead then quite possible that few good players may not be available if they are already playing some matches with other international team during that course of time. Or else IPL may be just of shorter version where only 1 round happens instead of 2 and finish it quickly by keeping daily 2 matches.

^^^^ The IPL can't be conducted between June and August, due to the Monsoons. If they conduct it after that, it is going to clash with the schedule of other tournaments. And anyway, IPL 2021 will start by March 2021. So how can they justify 5-6 months interval between the two tournaments? My advice to BCCI is to cancel this years tournament and reimburse all the expenses to franchises, sponsors and the TV channels.

IPL have to be stopped not just because of no time slot available for players to play if it gets played later from expected date but it should be stopped we do really need entertainment when the whole world is suffering financially, physically? India is not yet faced community spread luckily but if there an outbreak in India then it is going to be uncontrollable.Remember spanish flu caused 14 million people to die in India.

^^ For the record, its back-up plan with condition apply * If everything calms down, if not then no IPL

And IMO they have every right to get ready for any possible scenario, considering the fact IPL alone create 1000s of job every year.
Today we have first good news as in China first time happen no new case about Corona in 24 hours so lets see now what happen in other countries as few still struggling with this hopefully we will have IPL in June if this is possible any comment about this from any Indian?

I highly doubt that, I believe China are not telling the world the truth with the amount of cases they have and how many new cases are popping up daily. As we know the T20 world cup is played later this year in Australia and right now the AFL is going ahead as they don't want to clash with the world cup so its going to be interesting to see what happens if the AFL is stopped due to the virus and what will happen with the T20 world cup as it might be pushed back which in a way should be okay as it will be the start of the Australian summer.
The problem is , we can never really know what to believe . The journalists out there have to fear the government as well as the virus to freely roam in the field and collect info and publish them . Whatever we see in news is what we should believe .

Everyone is hoping the same that the situation should normalise before the starting of the tournament. The government has put in a lot of efforts in containing the situation and hopefully everything will be at normal very soon.

Is it possible for IPL to be rescheduled in the month of May. I feel by that time the situation will be under control?
Government indeed is putting a lot of efforts but do you think people are? I think not , if you see in Madhya Pradesh how they are protesting against the BJP with respect to elections , how can anyone contain a virus in these situation? It will obviously affect the other fields like sports too .

I agree that a lot of this is for fear and scaring people however this has a big affect on sports. I do hope that the T20 world cup goes ahead but a lot relies on the football season in Australia because if there is a case of the virus with any player the season will stop and the finals may get pushed back which then would put a delay on the T20 world cup. I think that is why the football season in Australia has been shortened from 23 games to 17 games just in case the season is stopped and then hopefully there is enough time to finish the season before the start of the world cup.

I can promote your project on X to my 100k+ followers for a reasonable price. Just DM me for prices.

It was a retarded step from the side of Australian rules football to conduct the Australian Football League, when on average 30,000 people are getting infected per day around the world. This sport involves a high degree of physical contact and therefore it puts the players at a very high risk from contacting the infection. There is still time to cancel this league, but if they don't heed to the requests, then I would ask them to be prepared to face multi-million AUD lawsuits once the outbreak is contained.

I hope that does not happen. Cancelling IPL can become very costly affair for BCCI and there are a lot of jobs in stake too. BCCI will lose some where around 3000 crore if they cancel IPL this year.

I am sure they are monitoring the present situation and accordingly they will take a decision. At the moment the situation in I dia and across the globe has gone worse. Hopefully things should become normal by April.

Cricket boards and ICC are free these days so they are discussing some rules for T-20 WC Semis. Everyone wakes up when things gets messy, it happened before when New Zealand lost the final last year (Thanks to boundary rule) and recently England Women team lost the Semis against India without even playing a single ball (Thanks to rain)

Reserve Day for men's T20 World Cup semis could be reconsidered

Quote
Cricket Australia would welcome the idea of having reserve days for the knockout stages of this year's men's T20 World Cup, scheduled to be hosted by them in October-November, 2020. The tournament organisers are keen to have reserve days for the two semi-final games, scheduled to be hosted in Sydney (November 11) and Adelaide (November 12). Melbourne will be hosting the grand final on November 15th and a reserve day is already in place in case of any rain delays.

The dialogue opened in the wake of the fiasco that engulfed the standalone women's tournament held earlier this year. With no reserve days in place, the first semi-final between India and England was washed out while the second match between hosts Australia and South Africa saw a truncated affair. Both matches were held at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) and players expressed disappointment at not having got a proper shot at the finals.

Please answer my question. Which one is more precious among these - 1,000 human lives, or $1 billion? More than a million individuals attended the IPL last season, and there is a good chance that if we witness the same number of audience this time, then anywhere from 1% to 10% may get infected from the virus directly. Will BCCI be OK with that sort of risk?

Both are important for me economic stability and the health of fellow humans. I do not know what will happen if BCCI cancels IPL this year but I do know many people will lose jobs and to cover it's losses BCCI will increase fees which will in directly affect common people.

Matches can be organised without spectators  and they can be rescheduled for a later date this year.

The virus can be contained but Indians are more intrested in hiding it from the government and spreading it to others. China has successfully contained the virus within three months and India can too if the citizens collaborate with the government.

If the virus can be contained by that time then the BCCI has the ability to move the matches to countries where there is no monsoon and we have already seen the IPL moved to South Africa in the past so it is possible that the IPL could be moved from India if monsoon is the obstacle Wink.

Please answer my question. Which one is more precious among these - 1,000 human lives, or $1 billion? More than a million individuals attended the IPL last season, and there is a good chance that if we witness the same number of audience this time, then anywhere from 1% to 10% may get infected from the virus directly. If the situation gets worse then there will be complete shut down, nothing is more important than health and human lives and no sporting events will resume until everything is sorted.

Both are important for me economic stability and the health of fellow humans. I do not know what will happen if BCCI cancels IPL this year but I do know many people will lose jobs and to cover it's losses BCCI will increase fees which will in directly affect common people.
If BCCI increases any fees it will not affect anyone, you have the option to opt out and it is not a necessity to get them imposed upon you Tongue, still not sure which fees you are talking about other than ticket fees because the broadcasting rights are already sold and it will affect the broadcasters rather than the BCCI and if the event is cancelled then the BCCI might compensate by extending the broadcasting rights for one more year.

Matches can be organised without spectators  and they can be rescheduled for a later date this year.
Group events and sports cannot be conducted like that in this case, one on one events can be conducted without spectator but not group events where people from different countries share the same locker room and i am sure it will not be allowed during this period.

Matches can be organized without spectators: Yes. But gate collection represents more than 20% of the revenue for the franchises and they may not be happy with this idea. And don't expect the BCCI to reimburse this amount to the franchises.

Matches can be rescheduled for a later date this year: Yes. Possible. But there are practical difficulties. Monsoon season will start in two months from now and post-Monsoon, the cricketing calendar is already very crowded.

Monsoon or no Monsoon, Local venue or foreign venue, Covid-19 contained or not.. its not gonna happen after June

Unless fans just want to watch Indian players playing with themselves + those foreign players who don't even make into their own country's team or retired players.

In short schedule is packed....
hopefully we will have IPL in June if this is possible any comment about this from any Indian?

Not possible...

Or at least tough call as almost every team has packed schedule after May so i don't see how BCCI could do that. Aus, England, SA, Windies all playing international cricket so it doesn't make sense.

@ JSRAW, I am not very sure about that. In case the IPL is shifted to Q3 or Q4 2020, then we may witness a lot of the international (overseas) players skipping their national duty to participate in IPL 2020. I can say this with 95% surety for teams such as West Indies, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Even for teams such as Australia, around half of the players may chose the respective IPL franchise over national team.

That said, the probability of IPL 2020 occurring in Q3/Q4 is near zero. It is most likely to get cancelled.

Some players might if IPL gets a green light (very unlikely) but big names such as Smith, Warner, Finch, Starc, Cummins, Eoin Morgan, Archer, Ben stokes, Buttler, Rabada, de cock etc are not going to join.

Not many players from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka play in IPL anyway. Only shakib and Malinga has brand value and IPL is all about BRAND. Windies players always play mercenary role here and there so its okay Grin

It will be more like Ranji trophy if they play it Smiley I don't think it is going to be that fun if it is only Indians . If it is played like that anyway , mark my words CSK will win again . I wanna see ABD , De cock atleast . SRH will suffer a huge blow as they are dominated by foreigners like Kane , Warner etc .
Foreign players are an integral part of IPL and without them , I don't think it is worth to play IPL .

As we know that IPL is always planned between March/ April of every year and ICC knows this and they do not keep any big tornamnets or series so that players are free to play the biggest cricket league. If they delay this IPL to Q3, then even the weather will not be suitable to play crciket in India due to summer season and if you delay in Q4, then the next season 2021 IPL will be too close and we do not want two seasons to be played one after the other.

Out of your list, here is my prediction:

Players who would chose national duty over the IPL: Smith, Warner, Finch, Starc, Cummins, Eoin Morgan, Buttler, de cock

Players who would chose IPL franchsies: Jofra Archer, Ben stokes, Kagiso Rabada

Most of them are senior players and it will be very tough for them to chose IPL. But the same can't be said about the younger players, such as Lungi Ngidi, Josh Hazlewood, Marcus Stoinis, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Chris Lynn.

And the case of Pat Cummins will be interesting. Do you think that he'll cancel the $2.2 million IPL contract?

No one will want to cancel their contract with IPL because of the attractive money which they get from it. I think all the players of IPL will want to play the tournament and they will wish the things to be normalize as soon as possible. If the national teams does not make it mandatory, the players will like to miss the national games for the IPL.

That's why I specifically asked about Pat Cummins. Australians are known to prioritize their national duty, above anything else (including money and personal commitments). But then, the amount I am talking about is just huge. $2.2 million is like what the respective player (Pat Cummins) would earn from his entire career playing for Australia. He can get the equivalent amount in just two months, playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

I'd just say that it is going to be very difficult decision for him. If I was in his place, then I'd chose KKR.

Those who are patriotic players, they will reject any amount of money for the country cause. After all it is because of their country they got the fame and I like those people who have such feelings. But I think players should not be tested and schedules should be flexible for the games. Also IPL fans also want to see all the players to be in action and anyone missing the tournament because of national commitment will be missed.
