After Warriors won against Celtics as expected, I predicted that India would win against South Africa and seal the deal since they bounced back in this fashion many times in the past, but rain screwed my prediction.
India seemed to be struggling initially, but I still felt that they could win this match by a narrow or comfortable margin if rain hadn't interfered. Boring end to the series.

~ I was very much interested to watch the final decider match between the two teams, but the rain spoiled the event and the series ended 2-2. I would not say that India or South Africa was the beneficiary of this result. The final match could have gone anywhere and also we have seen that South Africans are not good at chasing. (Indians were batting first in the final match too) The BCCI should be aware of the weather situation in South India during this season and it was raining heavily for the past two weeks and i knew that rain would halt the match. I wish we had a complete match and see who could come out on top in the end but weather had other plans and shared the cup between Indian and South Africa . Is there a ODI and Test series after this or just the T20 . I would rather say India was lucky after that rough start that this match ended in No result otherwise would have been a defeat for India. No there is no Odi or Test series as far as I know, as India is going for UK tour where it'll be playing T20 with Ireland first and then will be having a test series against England. In this time of the year, it's really best to have matches in Europe.

As long as it is not raining, Europe is ideal to have matches at this time of the year. England is playing an ODI series against the Netherlands as of now, and the weather looked very pleasant. That said, it is too early to predict the outcome of the 5th T20I, if there was no rain interruption. South Africa managed to take two quick wickets (both the openers - Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad got out to Lungi Ngidi), but as we have seen in the previous matches Indian middle order is very strong (esp. Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik).

As a result of that rough start, rain saved India in the decider match between SA and India. It's very unfortunate that the match was called off due to rain. The series now stands at 2-2. It would have been possible to play this decider, but the weather prevented it. The BCCI shouldn't schedule matches during this monsoon season in South India. It is unfortunate that BCCI is getting busy scheduling IPL only during non-rainy seasons.

We can't say the rough start have saved, even in the previous match India lost 2 by 24 runs. This match is no difference from the previous match. The match can turn anyway. In the previous match it looked like South Africa will reach the target, but things didn't work well. As said BCCI is busy in scheduling IPL, but it has failed in the important match. I think BCCI could've made this plan just to increase the winning chance for India.

IPL is important would remain important for the BCCI as they now are making more money from it than bilateral series. It is unfortunate that BCCI is more focused on making IPL one of the biggest sporting league in the world than concentrating on international matches.

The rains have been a bit erratic the past few years. The Monsoon has shifted closer to the later end of the year and with longer summers the past few years(Climate change?). Should steer clear with matches in monsoon anyways though but hey, if you can play tournaments in England(where it randomly rains every other day). India is a better venue when it comes to weather predictability wise.

Rain just washed away a very interesting match. India just got the momentum in last two games while SA maintained there record of not losing any T20I series in India. Moonsoon season is expected start of July but this time monsoon rains are in mid of June. Anyways its a welcome rain by both teams as nobody lost the series due to this rain.

Wrong shill. Monsoon season starts in June in India. Do your research properly. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_of_IndiaAlso, it didn't help at all since most fans including me wanted to see a proper, epic conclusion to the series where both teams kept swinging up and down and there were several twists and turns. A boring draw isn't what most people wanted.

India had a bad start but the result could have been anything at the end of the match. So I don't think that India got saved by the rain. But the way India started their innings it obviously looks like that. I actually think South Africa threw their chance of winning the series because they had a 2-0 lead. I didn't think they would choke like that after having a lead. And BCCI is always going to be interested to make IPL bigger and bigger. They make a lot of money from the IPL and a lot more money compared to bilateral series.

But I agree that the deciding match being called off turned out to be a big anti-climax. It was a disaster for the TV broadcasters, as they would have lost huge amounts of advertisement revenue. The BCCI is now richer by $6.2 billion, from the sale of IPL rights. They should seriously consider setting up a few stadiums with retractable roof. It's going to be expensive, but will prove to be profitable in the long run. Rain interruption is always a big issue for cricket in South Asia.

BCCI can't do anything on this matter, unless State board along with States comes with the solution, which i highly doubt it because our existing stadiums are in bad shapes and state boards are not even interested in fixing such issue so i'm not expecting anything drastic. Then there is also sustainability situation, in current situation it's not possible at all. IPL fixtures could change that but for this IPL need to have big window like 4-5 months so that expensive (retractable) stadiums could get at least 20-25 home matches to even break even price.

Not that sure about the sustainability. Having retractable roofs would ensure matches during the monsoon season, and it can bring tons of revenue to the BCCI. With the IPL media rights going up by 3-4 times every 5 years, I don't think that the authorities need to worry about the ROI. For example, the washed out 5th T20I against South Africa could have been saved, if it was played in a stadium with such a facility. BTW, when was the last time we had cricket matches in stadiums with retractable roof? I remember a few matches two decades back in Australia.

India hardly play any high profile series during monsoon, may be Duleep trophy is schedule around that time, not sure about it. Let's say BCCI does manage to build 3-4 new retractable stadium in metro cities, they need to build everything from scratch or demolished old ones as old stadium are not equipped for retractable roof. How many times they are going to used it, max 10 matches per year and this include IPL fixtures as well. They can't allocate all IPL and Bilateral home series in those limited stadiums because of rotation policy. BCCI indeed earning big bucks but it's not like they are keeping 100% amount to its own piggy bank, as of now its 50-50 (BCCI-franchise) partnership. Franchise can take this initiative as majority of owners are billionaires but for this to happen we need decentralized system where no state cricket body is interfering in franchise business. Former can even build multi purpose stadium if they want to. I also remember few BBL's game, it was funny situation when batter hit the roof, guess it was gayle or maxwell.

Now with current IPL media rights and franchise billionaires can change things in India drastically, but sadly it's all not easy as we are talking because here political influence is very high, and they can change things as well, so it's very risky for franchise owners and BCCI as they can't control many states for their changes in rules. Still, if they can manage things then franchise can build stadiums for their teams and this can bring some amazing changes in Indian cricket even then I can feel these franchise can break NFL records for media rights and in salaries because I read currently they are second in selling of media rights after NFL which is at No 1 around the globe, but they are going to lose their slot in near future.

Franchises are mostly owned by billionaires, but I don't think that they will take this risk. Already a lot of propaganda is going on in social media against the two richest individuals in India (Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani). Major infra projects such as bullet train are being opposed by the left-wing. My feeling is that, if anyone is in a position to take such a step, then it is going to be the BCCI. I checked the cost for one of the stadiums. Etihad Stadium (City of Manchester Stadium) cost around £150 million in total ($185 million). The Marvel Stadium was even more expensive, at A$460 million ($320 million, that too two decades ago).

I can feel these franchise can break NFL records for media rights and in salaries because I read currently they are second in selling of media rights after NFL which is at No 1 around the globe, but they are going to lose their slot in near future.
I doubt that. There is a significant gap between the NFL and IPL currently which is why I don't expect NFL to lose its slot anytime soon. My feeling is that, if anyone is in a position to take such a step, then it is going to be the BCCI.
The BCCI actually listening to the fans? That happens once in a blue moon to be honest. If they wanted to construct stadiums with retractable roofs, they would have done so a long time ago, but they didn't primarily due to corrupt idiots.

Nah bhai it's not going to happen in next 2-3 decade or so at least. NFL is Century old league and IPL is relatively new kid in this business, they are catching up fast but it's still way too behind commercially. Former generate almost $6-7 billion revenue per year from only media rights and their new media rights might double their existing figures. Matching Per match values might be possible but overall it'll take time. ~snip~
It's politically motivated for obvious reason as everyone wants brownie points, imo main reason is voting power lean towards economical marginalized section. Not going into more details as it'll derailed the topic but you got the gist of it. At this point of time new stadium will eat minimum billion dollars so now you can figure it out. The BCCI actually listening to the fans? That happens once in a blue moon to be honest. Haha that's it that's a main reason lol. -------------------------------------------------- Nice back n forth discussion, out of smerit so can't merit everyone.

Yes, having retractable roof is a good solution and to BCCI should first convince the government of Maharashtra as their head office is located in Mumbai. It won't be an easy task but convincing of the amount of revenue such stadium will generate might make th state government and the state board agree. If I am correct you can construct retractable celing on an existing stadium. Therefore no need to construct a new one.

I feel that this is an actually pretty good idea, because during monsoon people miss cricket a lot in India, and if BCCI can arrange matches during this period then I’m sure that all tickets will be sold out especially for T20 games. However one problem I see is that there would be activists citing environmental issues, and it’ll be tricky even for BCCI to get this approved without facing resistance, but in the long run it’ll pay off as they can arrange more T20 matches during the monsoon season.
