WPL Auction 2023

87 players sold for the first season of WPL for a whopping INR ₹59.50 Cr. Smriti Mandana is the most expensive of the lot. She was bought for  ₹3.40 Cr by RCB. Indian women's team captain Harmanpreet Kaur was bought by Mumbai Indians for INR 1.80 crore. Jemimah Rodrigues was bought for INR 2.2 Cr by Delhi Capitals. UP Warriorz bought Deepti Sharma for INR 2.6 Cr.

The top 3 expensive Indian players for the WPL auction are Smriti Mandana, Jemimah Rodrigues & Deepti Sharma. The top three International players in this year's WPL auction are Ashleigh Gardner, Nat Sciver-Brunt & Beth Mooney.

In my opinion, to start the amount of confidence shown by franchises is commendable. These girls never thought in their life that they will get so much amount of money for just playing cricket. WPL has opened the doors of immense earning opportunities for every girl playing cricket in India and abroad.

Mumbai Indians claim that they can classify her as associate player (and thereby include another 4 overseas players in their playing XI). But she has never represented Hong Kong. Right now, only one player can be described as associate player (Tara Norris of United States of America).

While reading this article "Urooj Mumtaz: 'Extremely unfortunate to see Pakistan players missing out on WPL" I came to realize that Azhar Mahmood did the same thing for playing in the IPL in 2012, 2013 & 2015 like Isabelle Wong. If Pakistani women cricketers want to play in WPL next season then they should follow Azhar Mahmood's technique. He did have a British passport and registered himself as a British citizen.

Bangladesh BPL League (BPL) Sylhet Strikers vs Rangpur Riders today match which team loses will be eliminated from the final match.  Meanwhile, when the results of the two teams are announced, it can be seen that Sylhet's points are 18 and Rangpur's points are 16.  Not much of a lead on points but today's performance will win the game.  Both the teams have a lot of good players but Sylhet has more experienced players ready to go to the finals.

OK.. In that case my bad. All the best for Tara Norris. I watched her during the Fairbreak Invitational T20 and she performed really well during the tournament. And I am quite surprised that none of the Thai women even got registered in the auction. Thailand is the strongest associate side at this moment in women's game and it is quite surprising that none of the franchises even considered their players. Apart from Thailand, Netherlands and Nepal are also quite good in women's cricket. Hopefully the WPSL will offer some of these players with contracts.

BCCI did allow Azhar Mahmood till 2015. I read it in the article itself. Quoting it below.

Pakistan's total absence from the WPL aligns with their male counterparts' absence from the IPL. Aside from the inaugural season in 2008, which took place during a brief political detente between India and Pakistan, no player representing Pakistan has taken part in the IPL. Azhar Mahmood played in 2012, 2013 and 2015, but by then he held a UK passport, and had registered himself for the league as a British citizen.

Now it might not be that easy to do what he did earlier. BTW, RCB on paper looks stronger than any other team in WPL. A lot of good talent was not bought in this auction. I am sure if the first season of WPL is a success then BCCI will increase the number of teams. Looking at the amount of money invested by the franchise in this league I am confident that WPL will be hit. Just waiting for the marketing & promotion to start.

Yeah, virtually no doubt about it. I guess if we leave out Tennis and to some extent Golf (?) then Women cricketers will surely become the highest-paid women athletes. It's just a humble start as far as the WPL budget is concerned, I'm sure in the next couple of years their purse will increase.

Heard a few pundits saying that top players will earn more from the WPL than an entire WBBL squad or Women The 100 squad's budget or even many male cricketers playing in different leagues (barring Men's IPL) so Women cricketers will surely get respect.

Sylhet batsmen's performance was excellent today. Almost every batsman in the team tried to perform well. Shanto, Mash and Linde in particular played brilliantly.
