Yes, Atletico Madrid is fairly well place in the table but no better than Barcelona, and to lead the league title next season I think Diego Simeone's squad is still under Xavi's team in some ways.
I don't see anything special about Atletico Madrid this season because they are indeed one of the favorites in the top four so nothing is different if we look at previous seasons

They are always in the top 3 at the end of La Liga. So I agree that they are a strong club and always give surprises besides Barcelona and Real Madrid. Then regarding Felix, I just realized that Joao Felix is quite expensive. I didn't expect that at such a price he was loaned to Chelsea half this season. That shouldn't be the case with the most expensive price tag at Atletico. But indeed I had seen on social media that Felix did not have a good relationship with Diego Simeone. But Atletico seems reluctant to let him go, because his manpower is still very useful.

I also thought so when Atletico failed the first part of the season that the joint story of Diego Simeone and Atletico Madrid is over, but still a powerful finish made me doubt it. I think that even if Atletico does not become champions and does not take titles this season, but finishes in the top three again, the coach will remain at the head of the club. Nevertheless, the current Atletico is more of a project tied to Simeon and the club's management may reasonably fear that with a new coach, the results may fall and the restructuring of the club by a new coach may greatly drop the club in the standings and hit revenue even harder. And under the leadership of Simeone, there is at least some stability.

Ancelotti's figure is admired by every Real Madrid player and if his contract could be longer then he would continue to stay at Real Madrid. But unfortunately his contract expires next year which makes him have to be willing to leave the club he already considers like home. Looking at ATM record, they have won some titles here and there that's true, but reality is that Barcelona or Real Madrid ends up winning most of the titles and they are clearly the dominant ones. Doesn't mean ATM won't win, sometimes they do, and they are easily the third best team without any competition, they are clearly there, but they are third for sure, there is no doubt about that.

In the end, we are going to see them do as best as they can, and try their best once again for sure but they may end up failing to win it again. Spending money doesn't equal to winning titles at all times, look at Chelsea and you will see how they are not doing all that well, and ATM may end up with bad transfers that doesn't help them neither, it would be very weird to see.

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid were among the top three teams in La Liga last season and next season will be no exception. These three teams will be between one and three in the points table but only positions may change. A relegation means that any of the three teams have the potential to win the La Liga title, with Real Madrid winning next season's league title or Barcelona and Atlético Madrid winning next season's league title. But for next season I will consider Real Madrid to win the league title. Whichever team wins the league title among these three teams will have to fight each other hard to win the league title in the next season.
