Cristiano Ronaldo returning to Manchester United with the manager saying he will not warm the bench sends out a statement as does the fact Guardiola did not attempt to sign Messi but he did try to sign Ronaldo and failed. It would have been a betrayal by Ronaldo had he signed for Manchester City but going by the poll in the thread both Manchester clubs are favourites to win the EPL.

I am shocked by the way Arsenal have collapsed. Arteta is way out of his depth, his job probably is hanging by a thread. The way the first few games have gone speaks volumes about why the English Premier League is the best and most exciting league in the world

^  It’s not that Pep failed or didn’t want to or Man City didn’t anticipate what was going on with Messi as I previously thought.  It was Messi who made the call to Poch at PSG telling Poch that he would like to play in Paris.  And I think Neymar was a huge part of that decision as Neymar kept in touch with Messi and has been telling him to join PSG.

I don't see the point of trying to convince someone to change their mind when they have already made it up. Messi had several links to PSG even before his transfer rumor broke out. Also, Neymar played a pivotal role in that move to reconnect with his former team mate just weeks after they both went head to head for the Copa America.

With the current pace of the Premier league, I think he would do better in a team like PSG compared to City as the PL is a lot more harder league to cope in.

Many people were expecting to see Messi joining Manchester City. They were like the most fitting team for Messi I believe. Because Manchester City are playing with Guardiola's system which Messi is already accustomed to it. He would adapt to the team very easily. However, I think the biggest role on Messi's transfer to PSG belonged to Neymar. He convinced Messi to play there and he even offered number 10 to him. Anyway, I still think that PSG are also a good team for Messi. But it would be really good to watch Messi and Ronaldo in the same league again after years.

is it possible that the arrival of ronaldo makes manchester united now the favorite to win?
 I personally see that chelsea has a greater chance of becoming champions, especially when looking at their performance against liverpool makes me think that chelsea is currently a team that has a winning mentality.

Not everyone who posts in this thread has voted and determined which team will win the Premier League this season. Only 19 people voted while others did not where Chelsea and Manchester City got the most votes with 6 votes each. Don't know what the real reason they posted but didn't vote even though I know the title winner is not determined by the number of votes the gets.

JollyGood, I cast my vote for Manchester City because I believe they will be able to defend the title this season. Obviously because I think they have some quality players so I'm still considering them for the title. I believe Guardiola is still the best coach for Manchester City at the moment.

I voted City but pre Ronaldo I think Chelsea is City’s strongest rival for the season.  Post Ronaldo...?  It’s close imho.  The ‘scene’ has changed with him around and United has like suddenly catapulted themselves to be lesser than the 6 to 1 underdogs they are to win the league.  The only thing holding them back rn is their manager.  Again...  imho.

I voted City but pre Ronaldo I think Chelsea is City’s strongest rival for the season.  Post Ronaldo...?  It’s close imho.  The ‘scene’ has changed with him around and United has like suddenly catapulted themselves to be lesser than the 6 to 1 underdogs they are to win the league.  The only thing holding them back rn is their manager.  Again...  imho.

He'll guarantee goals definitely, however aside from that I don't think Manchester United will be that much better off. They'll get top 4, but I don't think he'll catapult them to the top. Chelsea, and Manchester City have the overall better teams. Personally, I think Chelsea are the title favourites this season, with the better squad when considering depth. For starting eleven, then Manchester City probably still has the strongest team.

Got to remember that Manchester United didn't buy Ronaldo after careful consideration, it was more of a impulse buy because they didn't want to see him going to Manchester City. Now Ronaldo in that Manchester City squad would have been much more concerning, but Manchester United if you've watched any of their games still look quite fragile in a number of areas.

They've struggled in quite a few of their ties early on in the season. The only one where people got a little bit carried away with their performance was the Leeds match, but the exact same type of result happened last season. It's quite obvious to me that Manchester United are lacking in several areas, and I'm going to include management in that. Solskjaer isn't going to be winning the champions league or Premier League any time soon even if he has the best players at his disposal, which he doesn't.

Chelsea are by far the better team if you compare the two, and they actually have a competent manager. Solskjaer's players under perform under him. Really, Manchester United have several world class players, but they never really show it. Take Pogba for instance whenever he plays for France you can see his quality, but when playing for Manchester United it's like he's shackled or something.

Klopp on the other hand is a manager who demands a lot from his players, and tends to get players to over perform from their perceived ability. If Manchester United can sign a decent manager, that's when I'll consider them for the league, at the moment they'll likely fall short.

After seeing that result, I started thinking that they would start playing much better from now on in the Premier League. However, it was not the case. They were able to do nothing against Manchester City even until getting a red card. Now we will see them against Norwich. If they still struggle, then Arteta will most probably get sacked.

I don’t understand how long does Arsenal plan to stick with Arteta, and why can’t they admit they made a mistake in appointing him as the head coach. Lastly I was hoping that Conte would come and revitalise Arsenal, but now it looks like that he won’t be coming, however I do hope in the long run he manages Arsenal.

I don't think the result of the match against Norwich City will determine the fate of Arteta at Arsenal, because some time ago Arsenal management issued a statement that Arsenal management still respects Arteta's contract and will keep him as head coach of Arsenal.

That's the best joke I've ever heard from Arsenal. They lost an important game in the Premier League but they look very strong in friendlies. If I was an Arsenal supporter then I would be happy to support another team simply because I am disappointed with the management's decision to keep Arteta as coach. Unfortunately I didn't.

I'm not sure on the specifics other than Ronaldo had agreed a contract with Manchester City, but the transfer fee was getting in the way. Though, that's probably Juventus playing hard ball because they know how much money Manchester City have at their disposal.

That Aguero in 2018/19 was also injured for a big period of that season I believe. A proper striker could absolutely dominate, but for some reason they haven't been able to sign one. I thought despite how good Aguero was, he needed replacing a long time ago due to his frequent injuries.

Arteta is not helping the team, and have to be sacked. Arsenal management should get a better and experience Coach, who can manage the club into winning more official matches. Their performance this season in the Premier League is worst. They easily get beaten, and needs a coach who will encourage high morale within the club. Let's see how their match against Norwich will go. I don't see Norwich to be a strong team, and if Arsenal plays well, they will definitely win the match.

I'm getting hyped about the Leicester - Manchester City game next week. I expect a really nice competition between them but of course Manchester City seem far better now. And they are very likely to win this by at least 2 goals I believe. However, Leicester beat them 1-0 in the Community Shield game. But maybe City didn't care about the game too much. We will see their real performance in this game. Leicester have dangerous players like Vardy, Maddison and Tielemans for example. They can score also but my score prediction is 1-3.
