2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers

I was reading a bit regarding the new UEFA Qualifiers format and as far as I can see, there is no extra protection for the seeded teams - only the general rule that they will be placed against the unseeded team in the semifinal.

That basically means that Portugal and Italy can be placed in the same bracket.

Seeded teams are Portugal, Italy, Russia, Sweden, Wales and Scotland, while unseeded are Poland, Turkey, Ukraine, Austria, Czech Republic and Macedonia.

With only 3 teams qualifying - this will be the toughest UEFA qualifiers so far.

Only three out of these teams will qualify and that means that there is a very high chance of someone missing the boat. What if Portugal fails to qualify? That will be tragic, because Qatar 2022 is supposed to be the farewell tournament for Cristiano Ronaldo. And it will be ironic if Italy fails to qualify, after they won the Euro 2021. I am concerned about Russia and Sweden as well, as these two are good teams. Don't have much hope for teams like Turkey and Ukraine, given their recent form.

He has maintained his body really well. So I won't be surprised if he continues the 2024 European cup later. I think he can play for a longer time if he even wants to. Your prediction was completely wrong. Italy and Portugal most likely to play in the final of Path C. Their opponents is North Macedonia and Turkey, so, it shouldn't be very difficult for them to go through. It's a bit sad that one of these teams will miss World Cup

It's a big blow that at least either of both teams would miss out of the world cup, I'd have loved ones to have both teams, but truthfully both teams placed themselves in this situation, so it is what it is.

Yes, obviously with experience and high flying hours, a Ronaldo is quite natural to have many achievements compared to friends his age.  When compared to those who are still young, the answer is definitely Ronaldo avoiding him, even though we see each other how fast the teams in the other league are.

This is real crazy. Look at Path A. All the teams are weak ones. The same can be said in Path B, perhaps with the exception of Sweden (even Sweden is not in very good form). And in Path C, we have two teams who are among the top-10 in the world, and then two other teams which are capable of upsets. Now there is a very good chance that Cristiano Ronaldo may miss Qatar 2022. That will be tragic. The problem is that this is an inevitable situation - there are much more worthy teams in Europe than quotas for participation in the World Championship. So this is not specifically their mistake, but inevitability.

I think it is never happened to have the current champion of the EURO not qualified for the following world cup.

The current problem of Italy is the lack of a 1st striker for example in the last game with Switzerland, Immobile, Bellotti, Kean, Insigne were all out for injuries.
