So much for his image?

Quote
According to a report on TMZ, undisputed lightweight world champion Devin Haney was arrested on Thursday morning following a night out in Hollywood, California.

Law enforcement sources indicate to TMZ that they found a semi-automatic handgun in his car during a routine traffic stop.

https://www.boxingscene.com/devin-haney-arrested-hollywood-over-firearm-found-car--176113

But he is out because he posted a bail, but why does he has to carry a weapon?

For safety, I guess? Because apart from that, why would he carry a weapon inside his car and since he was arrested, then that gun was probably not registered to him because if that was registered then there should be no ruckus involving his name.

Quote
There is also a news that Teo Lopez is back and is looking for a 140 lbs clash with Devin Haney. We all know that Teo said that he has officially retired after beating Josh Taylor. Now, WBO has order a fight between Arnold Barboza and Jose Ramirez. But Lopez was given 24 hours to respond and block that fight and so he did. But he wanted Haney in his return as Devin says that he will move up in weight. So lots of interesting development here.

Not to boast but I expected this to happen, not to Devin Haney as a target specifically but I already thought that Teo Lopez might surprise us again as he now feel the urge to be somebody as he is now a champion at 140 lbs. because there is no sense at all in retirement at such an early age after winning a championship.

Any boxer would not think Teo was serious about his retirement. He just did the best performance of his entire career to win against Taylor so it didn't make sense seeing him retire. Somehow a boxer who comes back after retirement will be talked for awhile.  Now that he had achieved some greatness, he will need to aim higher and beat up the undisputed champs above him.

Would they get bigger pay if they once tried retiring? He isn't the first to have done this so it must be something for such gain.

Well, we can say that Teofimo Lopez is just trying to make his name even bigger and to draw out more money in his future fights that is why he is saying that this kind of stuffs. I think that is already unusual for boxers that young to express their retirement after winning a big fight against a big name. Other than that, I don't see any reasons that he is that serious about his retirement.

Teo Lopez is really trying to hype his name with such controversial statement, or maybe he just wanted to get out of the contract from Top Rank and that's why he just wanted to retire.

But for sure a Haney superfight at 140 lbs is very enticing to him that's why he unretire and make himself available for a fight. Remember that he has one of the belt at 140 lbs. So Haney should be interested on fighting Teo if he wanted to get another belt.

What a joke 25 years old boy want to retire when GGG, a 41 years old boxer is still fighting in professional scene and always smiling even though his scorecard was robbed against Canelo. Although he was win against Josh Taylor, but I don't think he can beat Haney. Loma already tried his best and yet Haney still win, Lopez isn't in the same level like Haney and Loma. It's better for him to continue to get more belt in his current division.

I think it will be a different situation if Haney will challenge Teo at 140 pounds and not the other way around, still it will be a tough fight for Teofimo Lopez knowing how good Haney when it comes to technicalities. Although it will be a boring fight, still I can say that Haney got the upper hand if in case a fight will happen at 140, but if it will be contested at 135, Haney will have that fight for sure.

I really think he had his reasons for doing such a thing, we can not judge his decision in doing this and maybe he would just do something differently or we can see him fight in an exhibition match while he is younger he can surely fight in an exhibition match more solid than Floyd Mayweather ever did it, and gain huge sums of money from it, he could also have a possibility in fighting the legends in one of those exhibition fights for the bigger opportunity of money as you could all know he has said on an interview that Boxing is his wife and this is the only thing I could think about why retire in a younger age,

I mean Teo is very different breed of boxer, GGG is an old school as we get, he could even fight in era wherein in was the toughest, in the 80's. Now this boxers look for pay check after pay check, looking for millions for every fight to the point wherein sometimes they really went overboard when they promote their fight. However, Teo now has the belt, so he may have to dictate all the terms he want if ever he will face Haney.

But I do agree that Haney might win this fight if he uses his superior technical skills and not engage Lopez as Teo has the power.

I think everyone here didn't take Teo's supposedly retirement remark. I mean we all know that he is still very young, and maybe the reason why he wants to 'retire' is that he is frustrated with his career. Like he is not getting the money that he deserved.

Nevertheless since the WBO has attention, whether he wants to defend it or not otherwise they will have to declare it as vacated and then will have their own title elimination. But since he says that he will comeback, then as a champion he has the duty know to face his mandatory or even Haney.

Shakur is trying to enforce his mandatory with the WBC against Haney at lightweight. There is some real animosity between Teo and Haney so that is also an interesting option. Lomachenko is the most deserving of an opportunity due to how close their fight was. It appears that Haney isn't interested in any of these options and will instead fight Regis Prograis. Eddie Hearn must have made a massive offer since that is probably the least interesting option for Haney. Regis Prograis looked awful in his last fight and couldn't even sell tickets in his hometown.

On a positive note, if Haney vacates his lightweight titles then we will probably see Shakur vs. Lomachenko which is one of the best matchups that can possibly be made.

This is even more exciting as Loma is still not considered a leftover despite his loss to Haney. It was a close fight, and some believe Loma actually won. So if this fight were to happen, it would give Loma a chance to prove himself once again. And in case he beats Shakur, it would be a significant success for him, causing people to forget his loss to Haney.

Yeah, I think Shakur has been calling Haney or even Tank Davis for a fight at 135 lbs.

But if Haney goes up to 140 lbs, then it's going to be a ramble as he will vacant all the belts obviously. So it will be Stevenson, Loma and Tank Davis left at 135 lbs and most likely, a Loma vs Stevenson can be made easily as both are under Top Rank if I'm not mistaken.

Haney's victory over Lomachenco is somehow controversial.  Fans and many other boxers think Loma should have won the fight so the idea of Loma being a leftover should be out of topic.  Loma can still box and infact I still believe he is way better than Devin Haney.

If ever Haney goes up in weight Division then it would be interesting to see the one left behind fighting for the vacant titles.  More probably we might see a ranking competition on this and will have elimination fights for those vacant belts.  This will be an eye feast since we will see these elites fighting and eliminating each other for the title if ever the boxing councils prepare such an event.

Yes, WBC now has mandated Haney to fight Shakur. So Haney has until Friday to decide whether he wanted to pursue that fight or not. If he goes to 140 lbs, then it will be Regis Prograis waiting for him.

Hard decision for Haney?

Less risk for him is Prograis obviously.

High risk is Shakur. But definitely more money in the table perhaps. But I think Shakur has a good chance to pull an upset.

He should consider where the money will flow more, as people deserve to witness an exciting fight. Shakur vs Haney is indeed an appealing matchup, even better than his fight with Loma, given that both fighters are currently in their prime. While Haney may have a slight advantage due to his size, Shakur's intelligence and high ring IQ make this fight truly unpredictable, and that's precisely what the fans want to see.

I also would rather see Haney fight Stevenson first, defend his WBC belt or whatever the other body has mandated for Haney, that's how it should be and not the other way around. Although he might be given special privilege since he is a unified champion.

But it make sense for Haney to go after Stevenson, I mean Shakur is going up in weight and wanted to make a name for himself as a Top Rank boxer. Haney already bolted out of Bob Arum, but I think this is still doable as they are no bad blood between the two. And Shakur has been hyping his name and calling Haney already thru social media.

Man, that's something Haney's camp should deeply think about. Fighting Shakur and winning it will give Haney more fame and money while moving up one weight against Regis Prograis will give him the easy way according to them because of Prograis's slow movements. I will not be so sure about that.

Although they say Haney has already decided he will be fighting Prograis, it seems like his confidence in Prograis from his last Twitter posts is giving them the doubt to decide clearly. It could go south, that's a possibility, this is boxing. They cannot just underestimate Prograis because I think he is also ready to fight anyone.

I think that WBC mandate is tough for Haney as he will face one of the future face of boxing, Shakur has all the  tools to defeat/upset Haney but of course the money is there and if ever he will defeat Shakur, he will gain the respect he is longing for.

Prograis is an easy fight for him but if he goes up in weight now without fight Shakur or Davis, people might think that he avoid the fights that he should have taken in his prime, so yeah, Shakur is the way to go if he want to entertain his fans/boxing world.

Money wise fighting Shakur will bring him higher anticipated paycheck while career wise, taking Prograis may give him a decent chance to continue holding a title, though if he's thinking about hype and respect as a fighter taking that risk against Shakur is really something that fans will love to witness, with the time frame that being given for his camp to decide, only one option or else his belt will be stripped.

Expecting something aside from avoiding hahaha, I mean looking to see that he will take the tougher road in facing Shakur.

I also prefer Haney to face Shakur. Earlier, Shakur already declined Haney's laughable offer of 25/75 which means the undisputed champion does not want the smoke by offering something he knew is not acceptable. But now that the WBC announced the mandate we will see if Haney will accept the mandate of just moving up against either lineal and WBO champion Teofimo Lopez or WBC champ, Regis Prograis.  The WBC has no very clear split sharing as it might announce as high as 70/30 for the champion to even 50/50 depending on the situation.

I really want to see Haney face Shakur but my prediction on this is he will move up and face Teofimo Lopez for a chance to become a 2-division lineal champion. WBC champion, Prograis may look easier due to his last fight's poor performance but Lopez also had bad performances before an upset over Josh Taylor. Teofimo Lopez is also the bigger money fight than Prograis unless Matchroom and DAZN will overprice it in order to convince Haney to return to them.

Loma vs Shakur fight will surely be made if in case Devin Haney will vacate the belts upon his climb to the next weight class, but as far as I know while there are still no signs that Haney is climbing for good, Bob Arum wanted Haney to try 140 lbs. first without vacating his belts while his weight can still make it as Arum knows how risky it is and it's much better for the both sides if he is still a champion.

But if Haney will not make any move towards the next weight class, hopefully he can cater Tank Davis or Shakur Stevenson as this guys will be a huge waste if they cannot have their chances to fight for the undisputed title.

That's the best way to define their status now. But they will have to decide or else his belt will be stripped.

Even if Devin Haney will choose to fight Regis Prograis at 140 instead of Shakur Stevenson at 135, it will just be a temporary thing because he cannot evade the mandatory as that will be pursued again once he finishes his fight with Prograis. Fate will always bring Haney back at 135 to fight Shakur and eventually, he will have to choose which belt will he carry and vacate if he will be successful in his campaign at 140. Tough choice but he needs to make a decision.

Whether if Haney will choose to stay at 135 to fight Shakur and Davis respectively or fight at 140 to face Regis, people will stay have a say in his decisions and it's not that surprising anymore as they will always see a fault in your decisions. What Haney needs to do is to weigh these things carefully because the outcome will of course dictate his career and any boxer wouldn't want that for sure because being at the top is not an easy quest and it will not get easier once you're on top because all boxers will now target you as they also want that throne. So, hopefully Devin Haney will choose what he feels is the right thing to do.
