This is for Filipino boxing fans in this forum.

Tomorrow, PH time, Melvin Jerusalem will make his first WBO minimumweight title against Puerto Rican Oscar Collazo.

What makes this fight interesting is that Jerusalem is placed as the underdog against Collazo, who by the way has only six fights as a pro boxer. On the interview, Jerusalem said that he is motivated by the underdog tag and I'll bite that  Grin, so I'm placing a bet for him ML @3.51. Hope he will retain the crown and continue the streak of upsets done by Filipino boxers.

Weird, as a champion Jerusalem is the underdog here? I haven't check on Oscar Collazo record though but it doesn't make sense for a champion to be treated  by sports bookies as the underdog.

Nevertheless, it could be good though for us who are looking to support the underdog here.

And that ML, very attractive and hopefully Melvin again prove his detractors wrong but winning this first fight as a champion.

It's kind of make it confusing why Oscar Collazo has been the favorite while the Filipino champion has been tagged as the underdog, I looked it up and searched the record of this challenger and thought that maybe because of his KO rate of 66.67% while the champion have a much lower percentage with only 54.55% but still, it doesn't make sense at all. Well, maybe he's just overrated because of some reasons that we might not know but I pretty much doubt his existence to finish the Filipino's reign.

Yes, most likely because of his KO rate that's why he is the favorite in this fight. Nevertheless, Melvin is the more experience fighter here and he just won the belt. But we will see, sports bookies always underestimate Filipino boxers, but nevertheless when they show good boxing skills they might change their tune. So let Melvin proved his dominance in this fight and hopefully he will win by a knockout to silent his critics and then sports bookies don't doubt himself in his next fight. But on the other hand, backers and supporters of Melvin will be very happy to see him as the underdog because of a great returns if you bet on him even at Money Line.

It is very interesting why Melvin Jerusalem is tagged as the underdog when

1.  He is the champion
2.  He has more fight
3.  He has more KO victory
4.  They have almost the same KO percentage
5.  Jerusalem losses were not a knock-out but a decision.
6.  Both is on their prime

I don't understand on what ground they label Jerusalem as the underdog.  This would be a treat from the book maker since I believe there is a higher chance for Jerusalem to win this fight than Collazo since The champion has way more experience than Collazo.

They might have seen something about Oscar Collazo being this kind of a favorite and in addition to this Oscar Collazo is Oscar De La Hoya's boxer so there is no wonder there is a big hype surrounding this boxer, and surely the odds were true because Oscar Collazo won against Melvin Jerusalem via KO/TKO retirement from Jerusalem's corner, it was a very sad day for the Filipino community,

But on the other hand, backers and supporters of Melvin will be very happy to see him as the underdog because of a great returns if you bet on him even at Money Line.

There is a huge something about this but watching the fight in the first 3 rounds Melvin Jerusalem is dominating the fight and he is more active inside the ring making his way to give Collazo more punches but in the 4th round it suddenly changes and now Oscar Collazo was the one dominating the fights and was very active toward Jerusalem, and then until the 6th round, Oscar Collazo have so much body shots landed on Melvin Jerusalem that he can not take anymore, and on the 7th round were Jerusalem was already knocking down and can not make it that is the time he has retired and give-up the belt on Oscar Collazo,

It was an upset for the champion but the bookies were really right about Oscar Collazo being faster and were technical looking and managed to see Jerusalem style in the 1st 3 rounds that are the time when he sees the opening and make a great comeback over Jerusalem, truly Oscar De La Hoya has good eyes in keeping a boxer with true potential,

Bookies create that odd and for sure there are many Pinoy fans who take that opportunity to support Jerusalem with that sweet odd for sure fans who really love watching and supporting this sport will be glad to spare some money for the home pride, sad to say but bookies is right when they place this odd and those who risk their bet for Jerusalem losses their stake.

Great match. The champ did try to defend his belt, but the challenger is really powerful when he already gains his rhythm and starts throwing those solid combinations.

Sad day for Ph sports fans. Fil-am coach Erik Spoeltra's team, Miami Heat also lost. I also thought Jerusalem would successfully defend his belt but well, it is what it is.

The odds were not that surprising, the house will always do its research thoroughly and seldom lose. Jerusalem might be the champion but we should not forget that he was losing the fight before delivering that scintillating punch that enabled him to become the WBO champion. Besides, the number of fights does not really matter much because it is all about the quality of opponents. Prior to becoming champion, Jerusalem was fed with weak opponents by the former ALA stable. He was then given a title fight against a Thai and lost then comes another unpopular but world-class Ph fighter, Joey Maderal Canoy where Jerusalem lost again.

Collazo on the other hand was tested right away when Golden Boy took him. He beat another Filipino, the battle-tested former WBO champion Vic Saludar and then went on to the eliminator before facing Jerusalem. Fun fact, Saludar also won the belt from a Japanese and then lost it also to a Puerto Rican who then lost his belt to a Japanese whom Jerusalem beat. So maybe the trend will repeat again. Cheesy

Today's 4 title fights resulted in 3 upsets and 3 new world champions:
Matchroom/DAZN- Leigh Wood(27-3-16 KOs) snatched the vacant WBA featherweight belt again with a decision against the overweight ex-champ Mauricio Lara(26-3-19 KOs).
Boxxer/Sky Sports(UK)- Another upset, Chris Billam-Smith (18-1-12 KOs) is the new WBO cruiserweight champion with a  majority decision win over former champ Lawrence Okolie (19-1-14 KOs).
Top Rank-Queensberry/ESPN-BT Sport(UK)- Luis Alberto Lopez (28-2-16 KOs) retained his IBF belt with a huge uppercut against the Irish favorite Michael Conlan (18-2-9 KOs).

It was really a Sad day for the Filipino Community because another 1 belt was lost, I really think Jerusalem's camp underestimated Collazo, for me because Melvin Jerusalem doesn't have a great camp at all and never engages in what Oscar Collazo is capable of well I am saying this I think they just look at the paper records of Collazo and doesn't really see what he is capable of, but surely I really don't want to blame anybody and they surely did what they can do,

It was really the bookies that are setting up the odds but surely many Filipinos want to support their fellow countrymen and have seen this as a good profit aswell If Jerusalem wins sadly to say it was not Jerusalem's time 1st title defense and it was all a lost and I surely don't go with betting with Melvin Jerusalem because I can feel that it is risky his Opponent was an Oscar De La Hoya's boxer and getting this fight and with that kind of position they really know who's going to win in this fight

I can say, Oscar Collazo is one bad Mother, Father those punches of his were really powerful for Melvin Jerusalem to stop the fight and retired, that is how powerful that body blow felt,

Another fight for a Filipino boxer and that is Jeo Santisima this coming end of the month and I think it is going to be the Main Event for the OPBF Featherweight Title this is the Event

Well, at least our very own Melvin tried his best in defending his belt against the challenger but his time has come to give up his precious belt for the meantime but I think he will try to bounce back next time if he will have the chance to repeat the process. Overall, that is his 3rd defeat in his career but he's still young enough to do more fights and possibly be a champion again. Hopefully next time, fate will be on his side.

A while ago a post was made regarding the Iranian hulk who was going to fight a match against Martyn ford. I notice that there is little interest on the forum. Does anyone have more information on this? Whether one of the 2 has really serious plans to fight with a career? I could understand it from the Iranian Hulk since he has no career at all. but Ford has an impressive acting career, you wouldn't want to risk that, would you? Incidentally, Badr Hari will also return to the ring in September. Time for revenge!

Unfortunately, I have to be the breaker of this sad news, but Melvin Jerusalem lost the fight as he was stop in the 7th rounds by Collazo. Melvin did start great in the first four rounds, but it seems that Collazo is just taking his time and trying to read Melvin early.

As it become move evident that Collazo is the more powerful puncher between the two and for 3 1/2 rounds he started to battered our very own Melvin. And as tough as he is, Jerusalem says "no mas".
~snip~

Collazo on the other hand was tested right away when Golden Boy took him. He beat another Filipino, the battle-tested former WBO champion Vic Saludar and then went on to the eliminator before facing Jerusalem. Fun fact, Saludar also won the belt from a Japanese and then lost it also to a Puerto Rican who then lost his belt to a Japanese whom Jerusalem beat. So maybe the trend will repeat again. Cheesy

Yeah i saw the highlight of that fight where Vic Saludar knocked down the Puerto Rican fighter with that body shots and i thought that may Jerusalem could do more than that and maybe beat Oscar Collazo but things turned the other way around, and that's boxing, styles makes a fight.

TBH, this Oscar Collazo had some talent where i think that he could defend this belt for a long a time. Sad to say that there's not much interest in the boxing community in this weight category, i mean boxers in this division are paid way lower than their bigger counterparts.

Yes, same here, I thought that there was a mistake when Jerusalem was put as a underdog against Collazo. But this Puerto Rican can bang and can take big shots as well and then throw his own. And that body shot that he gave to Melvin was too much to handle.

I do agree that he might be a good champion in this division and can defend the belts. It could be another Japanese, Filipino or Mexican though as they thrive on this smaller division but as you have said, the pay is not that good.

Yes, I also on the bandwagon on Jerusalem, specially on how he won the belt from the Japanese and now defending it against Collazo from PR. But this Collazo is very good, I don't think that Melvin and his camp underestimated him,  but he was just too good and above the level of Jerusalem.

However, I think Jerusalem can still bounce back though in his career. I mean he can get back to the drawing board and see where he can improved. We all know that no amount of trainer can prepare you from body shot, but at least maybe if he can be taught how to protect his side it might be good for him in the future, just saying.

Yup, the very reason why fighter from this division continues to train well, they know that after given that opportunity to hype their name they can't stay forever as the paycheck is not as good compared to the higher division, only few sponsors and few promoters are sponsoring, if you really like to have more money you need to exceed and try to move up as soon as doors got open for you.

The higher the division you can go and win, the better compensations that you can take. Look at Pacquiao a living proof how boxing industry can bring millions or more if you are really good at this sport.

Boxxer/Sky Sports(UK)- Another upset, Chris Billam-Smith (18-1-12 KOs) is the new WBO cruiserweight champion with a  majority decision win over former champ Lawrence Okolie (19-1-14 KOs).
This fight was another fishy judging from one of the judges who score the fight at 112-112. A tie? WTF?
The champion Lawrence Okolie deducted two points because of holding too many times. Then, he was knocked down 3 times in the entire 12 rounds. Obviously, the score would heavily be on the side of the challenger, Chris Billam-Smith. But that was not the case because one judge seems to see the fight entirely differently. I don't know if his eyes are blurry or if he is just paid to do that job.
This kind of garbage had been happening so many times in the sport and I don't think it will be stopped easily as judges become biased about the fight.
Now, that judge is in the hot seat with so many fans fired up at how he scored the game.

Anyway, Chris still won the WBO World Cruiserweight, thankfully, and he stained the record of the ex-champion, now with 1 loss in his career.

I haven't seen the fight though, but maybe what we are seeing is the "Dave Moretti" effect?  Smiley

But in any case, it's really hard to stop this kind of bias scoring for these boxing judges. The corruption is really deep-rooted in boxing right now and judges never knows how to be fair and score the fight live because they could have been in the payroll.

Anyhow, it's good that we have a new champion and the other 2 judges score it to Chris Billam-Smith.

There's no doubt that Melvin can still bounce back but that is for the future for now because I don't think that there camp will try and chase for a rematch as it was Melvin who was defeated via KO as per California rules but on paper it was a corner stoppage as Melvin was not able anymore to continue the fight. Anyway, he still got more years ahead of him and that defeat will not rule over his career. Hope to see him again soon fighting for the throne.

Well, Melvin Jerusalem is dominating the 1st until the 3rd round but because he has gas out on the 4th until the 7th round he lost it to Oscar Collazo, well I got an insider into why Melvin Jerusalem hit the bucket and was gas out, actually, Jerusalem was winning rounds but he changes his game plan on the 4th round, well this is because Jerusalem was not in his 100% entering the fight Melvin Jerusalem's body didn't adjust to the time difference on the USA where the fight occurs, it said on the interview that Jerusalem enter the ring with deprived of sleep so Collazo's punches had a big impact on him he is lacking of sleep,

Yeah i saw the highlight of that fight where Vic Saludar knocked down the Puerto Rican fighter with that body shots and i thought that may Jerusalem could do more than that and maybe beat Oscar Collazo but things turned the other way around, and that's boxing, styles makes a fight.

Actually looking at the fight and seeing the interview of Melvin Jerusalem why he lost it really makes sense I really think the lack of government supports for our boxer was the one that I see is at fault here even though Melvin Jerusalem has good training and had a fight plan going to the fight if he is late in making preparation and to condition his body the time difference makes it very difficult for him in making enough sleeps, because in adjusting to the time difference and it is in the USA it should be 1 month I think we should give them a chance,

This is the type of thing that I always talk about boxing and the sport when this type of controversy arises, since the Olympics I have seen this type of behavior and I have never agreed, of course the judges have their criteria and how to go against what they say? I believe that in boxing the fights should be done minute by minute with an audit of the judges according to their criteria and at the moment they assign the points, I think that this is the easiest way to know why they assigned points or not..

This is still very early, but I'm sure that we have heard Rolly Romero calling out Ryan Garcia after his controversial win against Ismael Barroso to capture the vacant WBA 140 lbs title. And with that, Ryan already responded as says,

We've seen Ryan Garcia already back in the gym, this time and obviously everyone knows about it, he has move to Derrick James as his new trainer and trying to be a slick boxer, hehehehe. And if ever this fight would materialized, this one is good to be honest, both has power, both has been drained at 135 lbs when they fought Tank Davis, so at 140 lbs and fully rehydrated, there will be a lot of fireworks and power in this fight. We've seen that Rolly is vulnerable to left hook, while Ryan's weaknesses is his body. So very interesting clash of styles, so hopefully we can see this fight later this year if everyone is really on board on pushing this one.

I smell that Ryan Garcia is just bluffing. But in Romero's case, it makes sense since he might not be able to hold the belt against the real contenders of the division. Garcia just came from a KO defeat so it's like an easier defense but financially big. But unless I can hear from Oscar De La Hoya, Garcia is just talking so people would see that he is not scared of Romero. But maybe this is doable if Garcia is really, serious. Both seem weak in the division but very popular so it is beneficial for both of them. And Garcia may not be able to get another title shot if Romero losses the belt to someone really good.

But there's also the promotional and network that both camps need to address. It is obvious that Garcia is the bigger name so I wonder if PBC and Showtime will allow GBP and DAZN to the event so the fight will go on. Just like when GBP and DAZN allowed them during the Tank-Garcia fight.
