In reading the rapid events in Syria, one of the following scenarios is expected to occur in the Ukrainian issue: The West will stop supporting Ukraine and back down from all plans to continue confronting Russia in exchange for neutralizing Ukraine so that it becomes a buffer zone between Europe and Russia. Or the West will also stop confronting Russia by supporting Ukraine in exchange for stopping the Russian invasion of Ukraine and being satisfied with annexing the areas that were previously controlled.

Both of these scenarios indicate the end of the war in Ukraine in exchange for Russia abandoning its support for the Assad regime in Syria. This is simply because the West and America are competing for influence in both Europe and the Middle East, and each of them is exploiting the conflict in each region as a pressure card on the other party. Russia on the European side wants to impose its influence and control over all neighboring countries to secure its borders, and America in the Middle East wants to provide the necessary protection for Israel.

Yesm you can skip over largerly irrelevant parts of history - e.g. when Ruzzia was ruled from Kiev - and still perfectly understand that Ukraine has not attacked Ruzzia, but rather the opposite. Moscow created a frozen conflict in the Dombas and then used it to further take Crimean. There is no Ukranian agression whatsoever in all this and you do not need to go to the theories about the Mechivick or Bolshevik revolutions and how was it promoted.

Branko, you are really running out of ideas. There are many channels publishing the fronts status independently from any Ukrainian and Ruzzian controlled media.

Russia didn't simply retaliate for Ukrainian aggression this time. Rather, Putin did their big push for two other reasons:
1. To show the world that Ukraine is at their mercy;
2. To calm things down a little so that the Russian troops can take the Russian Christmas (January 7) 'off', sort of, while Ukraine tries to regroup... do they have anybody left to regroup?

Watch Ukraine do more damage to themselves after their regrouping, by attacking Russia in some other way. Other nations live and learn. Why not Ukraine?

For a while, this looked like a civil war. But it's beginning to look like Mommy spanking the unruly Child.

For the second year, Ukrainians were trying to celebrate Christmas on December 25th, a new date differing from long-established Orthodox Calendar that takes place on January 7th – in a bid to 'erase Russian influence'.

When news about plane, someone on social media commented that Russia hit it. First it looked like cheap, bad joke. But when images of plane were posted and damage from shrapnel was visible, it can't be made by birds.
But even in this case they found how to blame Ukraine. They said that airport in Makhachkala couldn't accept flight because region was under attack of Ukrainian drones. And most likely Russian air defence misidentified plane as Ukrainian drone.
Azerbaijan Airlines cancelled flights to some Russian regions. But even after this attack wasn't enough to cancel all flights ro Russia.

It had to be Putin apologising / they did not use Lavrov this time. This is quite interesting and the only way I can interpret it is as a nearly forced diplomatic gesture to countries that still accept flights from Ruzzia - and there are not that many.
