They invested into the IPC hoping to see a x10 jump a minute after hitting an exchange. Too early for that so they sold, sure they'll regret later.

First it was promised that we will be able to 'mine' coins using Driveshare when the crowdsale is over. But it looks like the dev is a fucking retard and he still doesn't have beta version.

Ryan/lemmy here I will try to answer any and all questions here looks like a lot of things being said not many specific questions...so let's have em we will answer anything here we can.

I anticipate many questions are what is happening with the rest of the coins so here is a break down

500,000,000 total sjcx is the plan to issue then lock

15% 75,000,000 were allocated for developers to pay salaries and bounties for the development team and volunteers
15% 75,000,000 are allocated to a community fund for the community to make decision on what to do with.

70% 350,000,000 were allocated for the crowdsale..it looks like about 36,000,000 were distributed this way.

As stated http://us8.campaign-archive2.com/?u=edba9fc4ce8b9095a31859cba&id=59c0942390
Quote
Because there has been a lot of confusion about the 9,800 BTC goal, we wanted to be very clear that this is a long-term goal. Most crowdsales choose goals that they intend to reach in a specific time period, but in reality these are highly unpredictable. Instead, we chose a goal that was overly optimistic. That is, we never intended to reach 9,800 BTC during this crowdsale. All of the crowdsale participants will receive early access to our software, such as Metadisk and DriveShare. We have a lot of plans for leveraging the unsold Storjcoin X from our crowdsale to develop and support the network and related applications through their early stages. So what exactly happens to these coins?

Early Farming Rewards
A portion of the remaining coins will be used to reward users in the early DriveShare network for the space that they are offering and for testing the network.  This amount will be determined once the crowsdale is complete.  We feel that simply deciding this amount arbitrarily, without knowing how many are remaining, would be irresponsible. Furthermore, we believe we should have an in-depth and open discussion before making this important decision, just like the one we had when we deliberated on which protocol to use for SJCX. Please make sure you are registered on our official forum http://storjtalk.org to be a part of that discussion.

Future Crowdsales
Remaining portions of the coins will be distributed during future crowdsales, mostly for new storage platforms. We are exploring many different models for this. Applications such as Metadisk should run independently, but on the Storj platform. If you have been watching the forums, you have also seen the demos for decentralized video, decentralized audio, and decentralized image applications.  These could become game changing applications whose own crowdsales could be supplemented by Storjcoin X, as users will need Storjcoin X to run and use these applications on the Storj network. This will also provide value to Storj because they will ensure the storage space that you sell to the network is being bought and used.
The remaining coins are slated for distribution to people testing the network with Driveshare as well as some for future if needed crowdsale.

All current code is available on github.com/storj  there is a post on reddit looking to bring on another developer http://www.reddit.com/r/Jobs4Bitcoins/comments/2dx487/hiring_looking_for_an_experienced_python_flask_dev/

So questions let's keep then constructive.

Welcome to my Ignore List!   Grin

Fyi the person holding that username on the storj forum is not the founder of a developer...

Hey Ryan, can you throw some light on these things?

1) When will we be able to mine/farm coins?

2)

Quote

Have the devs already decided how many coins can be mined?

3) There's a confusing thing. It was said in the newsletter all the crowdsale participants might join mining coins.

Quote
All of the crowdsale participants will receive early access to our software, such as Metadisk and DriveShare.

But then it turns that not all, just 10/20/30 people will be INSTAMINIG coins. WTF?

4) (added) How about marketing? You collected about $500,000 and you don't care about people who invested in your business anymore? Current price is below presale. We need at least twitter compaign or something to attract attention.

Decentralized storage vs decentralized internet is basically how I view it... I think each project could be considered more complimentary than competitive.

Storj may compare more to that recent bittrex ico coin, xcloud. Except xcloud isn't decentralized, uses crypto primarily just for funding, and is closer to dropbox than storj -- storj being what I expect most folks expect xcloud is, but isn't really.

Hi,

Storj and MaidSafe are attempting to do the same thing, but in a different way. While Storj can act as cloud storage for an individual's files, that's only one part of it. Storj also facilitates the creation of decentralized applications. While MaidSafe is brought up, I would like to point out that MaidSafe and Storj plan on integrating with one another at some point.

Alright I am not a dev but a volunteer on the project so I will state what I know at this time to the best of my knowledge and that which I know to be true

1.) the focus of development has primarily been on developing metadisk as without it there will be nothing to farm.  Driveshare is composed of 4 parts, heartbeat, upstream, downstream and the ux.  3/4 of these are functionally complete and can be see no the github.com/storj  work has been going steadily you can see the commits by the developers on each portion.  Simply stating that the program will be done and ready on x date is not wise as with programming you can have good days where you makes lots of progress and bad days where you stare at a piece of code for hours on end( why I changed my major from computer engineering to electrical). If you or anyone reading this would like to contribute feel free to fork the project and make any and all contributions to the project.  So to the actual question, we will begin farming as soon as the binaries are entirely functional.

2.) there has not yet been official announcement on this.  I know people are worried about what will happen to the coins.  And are worried about dumping. If necessary we may place the coins in a wallet that would be time locked untill an adequate  and acceptable decision can be made.

3.) the developer has stated on several occasions and during interviews that he would like to see a staggered release for testing.  10 people use it test the hell out of it fix bugs reship to 100 people.  Test reship to 1000/ all participants.  There were about 1300 total donations made to the crowdsale many were repeat addresses.  These people will be the ones running the network untill a time comes that it is needed to release publicly to support the network.
No I anticipate more questions to come and I apologize if I confuse anyone. As stated I am not a founder or a developer but a volunteer working to answer community questions as truthfully as I know based on conversations within the developers chats.
