The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

It hurts to see that Namecoin is in second hundred altcoins on coimarketcap. This coin deserves a better place for sure in top 50.

Hi Folks,

I am keen on merged mining with Antpool for namecoin. However, I am unable to find a wallet which supports Namecoin. It seems like a lot of the folks on this thread are supporting Namecoin so I wanted to see if someone can point me in the right direction. Can someone please take couple mins to explain 2 things?

1) Where can I get a Namecoin wallet without tooooo much hassle?
2) How do I enable merged mining with Antpool?

Thank you very much.

1) https://namecoin.org/download/

2) You need a pool that enables merged mining. Some mine NMC and sell them automatically and gives you mili-btc. They do not give you NMC. You have to buy them.

Thank you but this one just like the others out there says "not suitable for mining". I just want to dual mine it with Antpool. Any suggestions? Thanks.

That's just a disclaimer because the wallet is in "beta". However there's another, older, wallet in the same page that is for miners, Namecoin Core Client (Stable Release), should be roughtly the same but without the name-tab.

Namecoin’s Jeremy Rand and Jonas Ostman will be at 34C3
Dec 23, 2017 • Jeremy Rand

Namecoin developers Jeremy Rand and Jonas Ostman will attend 34C3 (the 34th Chaos Communication Congress) in Leipzig, December 27-30. There’s a good chance that the 34C3 Monero Assembly will host some Namecoin talks. We’re looking forward to the congress!

Hello Namecoin community,

Namecoin is available for atomic swap trading on Komodo Platform's BarterDEX! Right NOW, peer2peer, on Mainnet with live orderbooks. Anyone can test it out if you'd like. We are taking privacy to new heights by keeping your funds and privkeys in YOUR HANDS! zK-SNARK coin Jumblr in YOUR HANDS! Liquidity of each coin is still building, but BarterDEX can pair your coin with any other of the 80+ coins on the exchange. If a team member, perhaps someone from marketing, would like to test out an atomic swap through our GUI, please send me a DM : ) We have a team availabe for walking leaders of featured coins through the Komodo ecosystem to teach you how your community can benefit from BarterDEX!

This is truly a community project - the keys are now in your hands! YOU can be a marketmaker for your coin, making it available to BarterDEX users around the globe 24/7. YOU can create an SPV electrum server, allowing BarterDEX users to manage and trade your coin without downloading the entire blockchain. We would be happy to assist you with setting these up. It would be nice to have your coin paired with KMD - then we could introduce it to the community as having liquidity in BarterDEX!

Welcome to the BarterDEX decentralized exchange!

Trade freely and safely,
Jay

34C3 Summary
Jan 3, 2018 • Jeremy Rand

As was previously announced, Jonas Ostman and I (Jeremy Rand) represented Namecoin at 34C3 in Leipzig, Germany. This was our first Congress, so we didn’t quite know what to expect, but we were pretty confident that it would be awesome. We were not disappointed. The CCC community is well-known for being friendly and welcoming to newcomers, and we greatly enjoyed talking to everyone there.

Namecoin gave 3 talks, all of which were hosted by the Monero Assembly and the Chaos West Stage. I expect 2 of those talks to have videos posted sometime later this month. Unfortunately, 1 of the talks suffered an audio issue in the recording, so it won’t have a video posted (but I will post the slides of that talk, as well as the other talks’ slides). The talks’ titles are:

Namecoin as a Decentralized Alternative to Certificate Authorities for TLS
Namecoin for Tor Onion Service Naming (And Other Darknets) (No video will be posted due to audio recording technical issues)
A Blueprint for Making Namecoin Anonymous
As usual for conferences that we attend, we engaged in a large number of conversations with other attendees. Also as usual, I won’t be publicly disclosing the content of those conversations, because I want people to be able to talk to me at conferences without worrying that off-the-cuff comments will be broadcast to the public. That said, I can say that a lot of very promising discussions happened regarding future collaboration with allied projects, and we’ll make any relevant announcements when/if such collaborations are formalized.

Huge thank you to the following groups who facilitated our participation:

The Monero Assembly
The Chaos West Assembly
Technoethical
We definitely intend to return for 35C3 in December 2018. Until then, Tuwat!

As the first batch of application of block chain technology to non currency field, Namecoin has high research value and can be applied to various fields.

Namecoin has many useful functions, therefore it is impossible to consider it simply as an ordinary coin. It is an innovation that will show itself to the world. I read information about the Safinus project as an investment platform. I also see a lot of revolutionary innovations there

Hi,

I was wondering, when the next Namecoin halving happens. I found no corresponding clock, so I wrote a simple bash script for computing the date (see below). Is the middle or end of October correct?

Moreover, I was also wondering, why Namecoin shows such a low price (especially compared to newer coins)? In the bubble of 2017, Litecoin for instance, reached new ATHs. Reasons why I think that Namecoin is undervalued:
  • Namecoin is even a little bit older than Litecoin;
  • Namecoin has only a supply of 21m coins;
  • Namecoin is as secure as Bitcoin;
  • The next halving is in around six month;
  • With a little bit of time and money, it seems not hard to purchase over 10k NMC;
  • And last but not least, in contrast to many newer and higher priced coins, Namecoin HAS an instrinsic value as decentral domain name system.

So why is Namecoin forgotten by the community? What is your opinion?

My opinion: Imho should 1 NMC cost at least as much as 1 LTC. Thus, Namecoin can increase in value by the factor of 50. But even a factor of 10 would be fair.

The following script works also for other coins:

Code:
#!/bin/bash

# bc-binary
bc_exec=bc;

current_block=$1;
halving_block=$2;
blockinterval=$3;

remaining_blocks=$(echo "obase=10;ibase=10;scale=10;$halving_block-$current_block" | $bc_exec);
duration=$(echo "obase=10;ibase=10;scale=10;$remaining_blocks*$blockinterval*60" | $bc_exec);

current_epoch=$(date +%s);
halving_epoch=$(echo "obase=10;ibase=10;scale=10;$current_epoch+$duration" | $bc_exec);

halving_date=$(date -d @$halving_epoch);

echo "current block   : $current_block";
echo "remaining blocks: $remaining_blocks";
echo "halving date    : $halving_date";

Save the script as halving.sh. The bc binary should be installed on your system, which is included in the most Linux-systems by default. Change the permissions of the script:

Code:
chmod 700 halving.sh

Compute the date:

Code:
./halving.sh 390391 420000 10
current block   : 390391
remaining blocks: 29609
halving date    : Sun Oct 14 00:09:04 CEST 2018

Can anyone, who owns a working account at

https://forum.namecoin.org/

post a message there or contact an admin directly, that the namecoin-forum is totally useless for new members?

I created several accounts at forum.namecoin.org in the last few days and it is NOT possible to reply to messages, it is NOT possible to create new threads and it is NOT possible to send PMs!

Moreover, there exists a list of the forum members (Quick links -> Members), which can be ordered with respect to the date a person joined the forum. It seems that everyone, who joined after 2017-11-30, is not able to post messages.

With such a non-working/dysfunctional/broken namecoin-forum, it is not surprising, that the namecoin community seems dead.
