According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

BTW, it has been mentioned that it is not anymore allowed to write own account address here, coz it may cause a ban. But it can be go around by keeping the account address in the signature.

What is the rule, which is causing this?
Is it this  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=434310.0 ?
"Specifically, you are not allowed to give people any incentive to post insubstantial posts in your threads. You can't offer to pay people who post their addresses, usernames, etc. "

If that is the rule, then a post [ "Give me NEMs" + signature with account details ] is breaking the rule, I think. Or not?

there is no incentive to post an address.. the coins are not worth anything and never will be.. addresses in signatures have never counted in that rule though..

Test-coins are worthless, yes, but generally this kind of "GiveAway or GiveMe" posts are against the rule, either the address is in the message or in the signature. In both cases there is asked some benefit.

The most frequently traded asset EVER on the NXT asset exchange is NEMstake. And while redemption has started (please read recent posts) trading still continues at a high rate.

NEMstake isn't the oldest asset by far, but it has been the busiest!

Anyone know if there are currently posted deadlines for redeeming alt nemo silver/gold tokens at this point? Even ballpark?

There is no deadline yet. We think it should happen after the launch. You will be kept informed.

Guide to creating "real account data", saving the data and redeeming your nemstake on AE.

hope this helps those who are confused.. Smiley

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4-_RIDMJ0E

I think I would need to get ' wasted' after doing all that......lol....

You lost me at ' keypass'

Best thing is copy and print the private key  Tongue or save on Pen drive.

Yeah...thats what I was thinking...

Yep, great video!  I am sharing it.

One other tip that I would like to share.  I have an old worthless digital camera.  I take pictures of the screen, just in case as a back up to the back up.

Also, as Kodtycoon showed in the video, he was using a password manager.  Keepass is open source and has been tested many times and proven to be one of the best and safest ways to manage information like this.  I use a program that is basically the same but not controlled by a third party.  But it is cross platform on my phone, mac, and windows.  It's called Lastpass.  It is a little friendlier on the eyes and easier to use.  I like the fact too that it has two-factor authentication and I can limit what countries it can be opened in.

There are other options too, but once a person starts using these password managers, you can find it makes your life much easier and safer and there is pretty much no going back.

I wouldn't suggest taking a picture with a camera. There is one alphanumeric character that cannot be seen and you will have to shift right to see the last one. I hope you have done more than taking a picture. Wink

Is someone working on a mgwNEM? I think that would be great if it works at launch.

Not sure if I should post this here or in the official forum, but hey here goes!

Would it be possible for one of the devs to please list the steps needed to run NIS headless? By this I mean NIS on a remote machine running 24x7 where a NCC can use it remotely periodically?

I have a RaspberryPi running NIS but it is not clear how to start and boot NIS.

Thanks

KC
open port 7890 on the rasp. get the ip of the rasp pi, enter ip into "host" in the settings for connecting to nis. Save that and turn off local nis.

open port 7890 on the rasp. - Done
get the ip of the rasp pi - Done (it is static)
enter ip into "host" in the settings for connecting to nis - Done
Save that and turn off local nis. - Done

Problem - NCC >>> NIS requires to be booted
Problem - Boot local node >>> Unknown Error

KC

Is your local node running Linux?

If so, this makes your NIS local:
ssh -l root -f rasp_ip -L 7890:localhost:7890

If not, probably you can do the same with your SSH client, whichever it is.

I tried this using Putty on Windows 8 whereby the port, 7890, should have been tunnelled from the local machine to the RaspberryPi but this didn't work.

In the NIS config.properties files it has a key section and node, is this something that is being developed? Can NIS boot automatically without the need for NCC?

For now I guess I either need to install a Linux in a VM, or run NCC and xWindows on RaspberryPI to boot NIS?

Youre able to do this since the second or third alpha release I think.
You put a priv-key into config.properties and I think there is another setting that actually actives auto-boot. After that NIS will boot automatically.

Thanks, I'll give this a go. At the moment I'm playing with Xming to send the X window from the Pi to my MS Win laptop. One of the reasons I bought the RPi was to learn more about Linux in an inexpensive way

Renting a low-power vps for 1 month or 2 would have been even less expensive but of course the Pi is yours forever and very versatile Smiley
What OS is running on that Pi and what does your network look like ?
