In the NIS config.properties files it has a key section and node, is this something that is being developed? Can NIS boot automatically without the need for NCC?
Youre able to do this since the second or third alpha release I think.
You put a priv-key into config.properties and I think there is another setting that actually actives auto-boot. After that NIS will boot automatically.
Thanks, I'll give this a go. At the moment I'm playing with Xming to send the X window from the Pi to my MS Win laptop. One of the reasons I bought the RPi was to learn more about Linux in an inexpensive way

Renting a low-power vps for 1 month or 2 would have been even less expensive but of course the Pi is yours forever and very versatile
What OS is running on that Pi and what does your network look like ?
I originally bought the Pi for my son but when the B+ came out I bought another for myself, since then I also got hold of the excellently packaged Kano.
I'm running Raspbian (Debian Wheezy) and trying to upgrade this as we speak to latest release so that I can use Epiphany as the browser which is HTML5 optimised rather than Midori.
The rest of my network is Windows based (it is my job) so I'm running Active Directory with DNS and DHCP. The Pi has a static address and port 7890 is open on the router to the Pi. I have a range of public IP addresses (6 ish in total) so I can NAT public to private. My laptop is running Windows 8.1 and I'm using Putty and Xming for SSH and X Windows.
As you say I could have gone down the Vps route but I wanted to contribute to the NEM community by running a node 24x7 from home and furthering my own knowledge.
