I just staked a bunch of blocks

Yep I just saw my big block orphan twice! Turned off my client to save up a large stake weight for the next lul.

We are back in action... and surprisingly the block that got the hash was only 48.81 HYP and was 10.92 days old.

I'll give it a shot.

1st off, it is automatic. If you are open, unlocked, connected, and in sync, it will happen.

However you can get a better idea of when it's going to stake by looking at the little tab at the bottom (mining symbol in the prerelease, I think a green arrow now, but I'm not at the right computer) and hover over it. It will show you estimated time to stake (wildly inaccurate on EVERY PoS coin) and your stake weight vs. network weight.

As I understand it, and presstab/others feel free to correct me, difficulty can't readjust until a block is found. Given how long it's taking, it will probably adjust rather severely this time 'round. Once it does, the next few blocks eligible for stake should go fairly quickly. If they go TOO quickly, there will be more long rounds. So it's a good idea to use coin control to aggregate your blocks in a staggered fashion. I was late to the game on this coin (as in I'd already purchased a bunch of TEK when I found out about it) so I've only got one block right now of seventyish coins. But those of you with large numbers, please consider staggering your blocks over a several day period. You'll initially lose some coin maturity doing this, but that should average out fairly quickly. There are two plus sides to doing this. One, you'll have something staking every day, and two, if the majority of us do this, the blockchain will move at a much steadier and predictable pace.

I fully agree, a spread of blocks of coins, regardless of the size is great.
-gives steady reward over time
-helps the network being stable and healthy

EDIT :
Maybe a good idea to hard code "spread" for coins being staked into the wallet ?
Doing so could avoid POW...

I don't like the idea of creating code that will destroy age. But I do think if someone wants to purposefully spread out their buys and send HYP to their wallet everyday then that would be a good thing.

And yes I would really like to avoid PoW.  It is a last resort.  But I use it to let everyone know that there is never a reason to be worried, there are always ways out of a stuck chain.

Community Update

Things are picking up. We're focusing on letting the blockchain move organically rather than
turning to more extreme options like POW or hard fork. Patience is paying off Smiley

We may get some bounties going soon. If you have suggestions let me know, details will follow.

Presstab and David have asked that requests for new features be directed here so they can be easily found
https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/13358-wallet-feature-requests/

Don't forget to request HYP at other exchanges. We have approachable, unmasked devs and a great little community.
There are lots of reasons to be excited about HYP.

https://c-cex.com/?id=vote#suggest
support@mintpal.com make sure to link our bitcointalk thread with your coin request.

If you are on Twitter, help HYP get noticed. Tweet #hyperstake as well.

The irc is always open and it's usually raining HYP! Join us on freenode at ##hyperstake

Just wondering why the icon stake weight and what's listed in the columns in coin control are seemingly not correlated?  I actually think the icon calculation is correct because even though no stake shows up in the weight column I did get stake and the icon reports that I'm staking, correctly.  Shouldn't I be able to add up all weight in the column to the same total as what it shows in the icon popup for my weight?

The low priority coin automatically selected  is not working,
i made a transfer yesterday and i had a enough balance and messed up 2 blocks that were about to stake and their weight now is zero and didn't stake.

I will look into this. Coin control is something that was published to the crypto community and then ported over to each coins wallet. This is the default logic of coin control, but it doesn't select them solely based on confirmations, there is an extra size parameter in there too. I will do some digging.  Thanks for reporting this.

Started a staking journal. Its going to be fun to watch, I am entering everything into excel so that I can use charts and run numbers on everything.

A graph of difficulty over time:

Is this why my pathetic little stash went from time to stake of 8 hours to 27 days over night? (I'm working on more acquisitions, not really worried. This is a technical/curiousity question)

You're furthering my education by quite a bit here Tongue I'm going to have to learn to code. It has become imperative to my obsessive brain Cheesy

Probably - the combination between much higher network stake weight and the high difficulty.  I find it so interesting to look at the technicals.

First of all, thanks to everyone who answered before about staking....
So, today, my wallets (I split them onto 2 PC's) staked, and I received blocks of around 360 HYP's - which is great.

Now, when I look at the twin axes in the bottom right of the wallet, they state that "not minting because you don't have mature coins".

Is that to be expected?

Do I now have to wait another 9 days before the next batch of staked coins are mined? Or should I be doing something else to help them along?

Thanks in advance Smiley

It's nine days (min) per block. If you have more blocks that haven't staked yet, they will get there. The coins that just staked, both the original and the newly minted, are reset to zero for the maturity period. If that's all you have, then yes, it's another nine days. Nothing will help them along. Coin control just helps you organize the blocks into (your) optimum configuration.

Why is the price going down?

I am guessing it is some of the people that bought in a week ago that just got their stakes are selling out. The market is still trying to decide what HYP is worth.

Two new buttons in the GUI so that you can rescan the wallet and remove orphans and bad transactions without using the console commands.
